I play every now and then, but last time I logged in I had to download an enormous update. I played a bit and thought "This game is getting close, but it still has about 5-6 months before it's ready. The developers need to hurry up and make the controls feel more fluid so we can really start testing this beta". But I keep hearing everyone talk like it's no longer in beta phase. If this is seriously the game, and it's always going to feel like I'm walking on the moon with rollerskates on in an ice rink, then I'm not impressed.
This game looks pretty (finally) but there are zero maps that implement close range. Aside from that all the maps look the same, and are bland. The PS3 can do better than this. It looks like a good game but the gameplay itself just doesn't compare to other FPS's, and I'm not even talking about CoD. I'd rather play Perfect Dark on N64 against Simbots than this. What's the point of 80 bullets in an SMG when I can unload every bullet in someones back, and not even break his shield because of what he has equipped? There's no talent in that. It's just chance as to who you will run into and be capable of killing. People who are devout fans of FPS's probably won't like this game because it panders to much to an MMORPG fanbase, which is bad because this game is an FPS. In fact, I know none of my friends like it, and we all play FPS's together. Even my old clan from MAG doesn't like this game, and we had over 150+ members. I can't imagine people who love MMORPG's playing this game for more than a year, because this game falls right between the crowds it's supposed to pander to, and I doubt either crowd will catch it.
If everyone had about the same health, and/or the weapons did a decent amount of damage regardless of the weapons tier then this might be funner to play, but as it is right now you can have every beginning advantage when fighting someone and still lose, simply because they just have so many more hitpoints than you. 80 bullets should kill anyone. And if it doesn't kill anyone, then that weapon better reload fast as **** - but no, you have to spend hundreds of thousands of skill points to level up a weapon to have attributes it should already have.
Right now, this game is like playing paper, rock, scissors with worse graphics. |

Wow, okay, the game JUST released. Games are most popular when they just release. On release day, Black Ops had the following playing:
PC - 75,000 PS3 - 80,000 360 - 3,000,000
By the end of the first week, they probably had at least 10% playing(most likely WAY more, but I'm making an obvious point here) which means they were blowing Dust out of the water by twofold, minimum. So if you want to impress anyone intelligent, you'll need to say something smarter than what you just said.

In order for Dust to be viable to keep alive, it will need a bigger playerbase than what it currently has, but that's where the question is. Will enough people play this game longterm? Is the niche market that this game appeals to actually big enough? Most people who don't like this game simply won't play it, let alone come to the board, and they won't even feel cheated by this game being bad since they payed nothing for it so when this game dies you won't even hear how many people knew it had something wrong with it. |

youre not even aware of the target audience yourself, YOU were not the target audience, im 100% sure CCP was not targeting EVE players. CCP stated already their target was HALO/COD/BF players.

You really haven't experienced dust for what it is until you squad up with several guys who have played longer than 30 min's and realize that you actually do "need your team mates" to succeed and have fun... Yes it does placate to the mmorpg crowd and it's supposed to... It can still be fun to fps players of all categories if they can spend enough time to figure out that you can't rambo **** in dust...
I personally think they need to make more games like this that take more than "just" a quick hand/eye

Being an FPS fan myself - I just don't think it will. I always have at least a 2 to 1 KDR, so I know I can aim and do well in FPS's, and I seriously doubt anyone who loves FPS's will choose to play this instead of any other FPS that's already out.
The only way I can imagine this game succeeding is if all the people who suck at FPS's jump onto this game and love the concept of not being required to have gun game to get kills... but even then, eventually everyones going to have the same stuff, and those players who got kills based off their equipment for so long will start to die more often, lose, and probably migrate to other games out of boredom. I thinki they should have just let EVE be the RPG role, and had DUST be the more FPS role with some focus on buying unique interesting skills (basically what most FPS's let you do nowadays anyway). |

EvE started small and grew gradually over ten years.
Console games tend to release and have a spike at launch then drop off.
COD releases more or less same game with mod every year, player base spikes each time and has grown over time.
I would expect a spike at each of Dusts free expansions, little bigger each time.
it will never have the player counts of cod or bf, it is targeting a subset of those players and adding in some console fps/rpg fans and some eve players. Also some people that would have played eve it was on console but don't play pc games will play dust. I would guess these groups combined are smaller then cod playerbase. But that is fine, EvE is smaller then WoW but is likly to outlast it.
10% of Cod's ps3 player base on launch day is larger then I would have guessed, should be better next build's launch( aka first free expansion). |

I agree more games should be tactical, but this game requires too little hand eye coordination.
The problem with this though is you shouldn't need your team to save you from a heavy that you emptied your clip into. who you ran into one on one. I actually have been mowed down multiple times with my team by one laser rifle super hero who has invested way more time into the game than I can, so traveling with your team isn't the key to success. |

if those are Black Ops 1 them your PS3 #s are way off.
Even BO2 #s hit 700k-800,000 Online simultaneously on Day 1 midnight release launch day. I was one of those people playing BO2.
With all the tremendous blunders with the May 6th and May 14th release, Dust besides graphics is going Backwards. I mean seriously how did some of the Basic gameplay mechanics regress from the previous build. All the Hotfix patches in the gameplay build seemed to just not make it into the May 6th release.
The Economics of PC battles is broken, if you are a Corp who does NOT own a District on a planet already.
The last hope for Dust514 is the PS4.
really the only reason why people play this "so-called" retail version of Dust514 is because one thing; it is FREEEEEEEEE

Let's compare EVE Online and World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft was overhyped with 1.9 million players and EVE Online had about 300,000 healthy players (now I believe it has increased to 500,000) last time I played a couple years ago. I'm sure it's the same as comparing DUST 514 with Call of Duty (COD.) COD is way overhyped, but it spikes crazily. One day I see 600,000 players on Black Ops 2, the next day it's 100,000. It's totally unpredictable. But with Dust 514, the numbers gradually increase and remains stable. Now, I like that Dust 514 weeds out all of those COD newberries who thinks it should have more speed, more action, more eye-candy graphics, etc, etc, etc. There will be more new AAA games coming out that boasts it's better than the previous champions. But Dust 514 will still be around with a small tight-knit community, much like what EVE Online had even with the corruption and betrayal surrounding the games. Dust 514 is the way to go. |

Battlefield= For a time BF was the Mans shooter, Bad company was glorious, but with BF3 and Dice nerfing and buffing after listening to all the christmas noobs and ruining the game it kind of lost its momentum and ruined the game, because the things they nerfed seriously made no sense like IR flare breaking laser locks? laser guided weapon systems aren't even affected by IR flares.
DUST 514= Is University Level FPS gameplay man. This is a thinking mans game with some serious strategizing going on. When your playing against a team with some serious players you either work together or die. This game is the only game that encourages team play because Rock, Paper, Scissors. If your just a long rock your going to get owned.
If you ask me, if you got the balls to hang in Dust, than it kills BF and COD 10 fold.

Is this a joke? the pistol does 450% head shot damage, 150 base damage with no skill you deal around 675 damage a shot, what are you complaining about again?

Yes, this game is "officially" release as of May 14th. But, it's pretty obvious it's still a work in progress. All games of this nature are. That shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Well, I find this insane to believe. Emptying an 80 round mag into someone's back will easily kill them regardless if they have 500 shields or amour. I mean, even at 20 points of damage an 80 round mag will even eat through a heavy. Aiming sounds like your issues here. And, in all fairness, the CQC aiming isn't great and we have been issuing complaints on the forum about the issues. CCP has said they are looking into it. Hard to say what the issue is. To me it's an input lag or sensitivity issue as to why up close firing isn't so hot.

80 bullets will kill anyone. Already demonstrated it. And, what it sounds like you want is, well, a generic arcade shooter, like, Call of Duty, or something similar. This isn't that game. |

LOL you do not get this game at all.
There is no way you should be able to go toe to toe with a Heavy if you are an assault/scout/logi as long as you are in the same tier with SP and gear.
There are different classes for a reason. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses. Just as each weapon has its own strengths and weaknesses. You have to learn these in order to be able to play this game effectively.
As far as the 80 rounds in SMG being able to kill anything. Dude it is the future where there are specially designed shields made to stop physical projectiles (SMG/HMG rounds and Frag Grenades/Missles) Get a weapon designed for use against shields and watch how fast they drop.
This is not CoD or BF you cannot stab one in the foot and kill them!
There are NO true OHK weapons (throwing knives/crossbow in CoD).
You have to use teamwork and tactics to exploit your opponents weaknesses.
In truth all weapons do not do the same amount of damage nor should they.

I'd like to point something out... The Call of Duty series goes back to 2003, with a WW2 shooter. In essence, CoD is a franchise with a large, well-known publisher, and a relatively long lifespan already. It has a pre-existing fanbase stretching back to PS2, and Battlefield stretches back to 2002, with Battlefield 1942.
Both franchises have had a huge advertising budget spent on each of them, along with a large fanbase who will buy into the games already. Also, due to the large fanbase, gathering more fans (up to a certain point) is exponential due to word-of-mouth. You're more likely to play a game a friend has recommended than a game you've heard about from the TV.
In essence, 9k on release weekend for a little-known shooter with barely any advertising, no pre-existing fanbase and a barely known developer is pretty good.
I think Super MNC hit 10k max, and it had a predecessor in MNC, which was fairly popular. |

People who love playing with lots of people have better games where they can do just that, and do more than just shoot, run for a long time, and hack a terminal. People who love FPS's have many other games where gun game is a necessity and rewarded.

Hahaha. Love the word "university" come on man, you wanted to say nerd! And COD and BF are the most recognize but far from being the best. You missed quite a few FPS games that are "thinking mans shooters" bro. They do it better then dust. PC is the home of FPS. consoles have brought it to the masses, but even in consoles their are still better TEAM SHOOTERS that leave dust... in the dust.
I ain't going anywhere from dust. cause it's that nerd part of it, got me. Building my gundam, um dropsuit. when I'm done.. maybe I'll get bored. till then tho, I'm here.

BF hasn't been battlefield since mc2.
it's all cod now. you guys can't handle anything else. you guys don't want anything else.
if they give you something else, like 514, you turn it into cod with shields.
"Yeah it sure is fun never getting killed by people in Militia gear as soon as you get Proto Specialist suits."
THERE it is!!!
THAT right there is it in a nutshell
it's not the car it's the driver.
you got faced by a better gamer.
you blame the guns and the ranges. they nerf it for you. now you can play.
cuz you... sir... ma'am.... are a codboi and so is everyone like you.
at least you can admit it.
