I play every now and then, but last time I logged in I had to download an enormous update. I played a bit and thought "This game is getting close, but it still has about 5-6 months before it's ready. The developers need to hurry up and make the controls feel more fluid so we can really start testing this beta". But I keep hearing everyone talk like it's no longer in beta phase. If this is seriously the game, and it's always going to feel like I'm walking on the moon with rollerskates on in an ice rink, then I'm not impressed.
This game looks pretty (finally) but there are zero maps that implement close range. Aside from that all the maps look the same, and are bland. The PS3 can do better than this. It looks like a good game but the gameplay itself just doesn't compare to other FPS's, and I'm not even talking about CoD. I'd rather play Perfect Dark on N64 against Simbots than this. What's the point of 80 bullets in an SMG when I can unload every bullet in someones back, and not even break his shield because of what he has equipped? There's no talent in that. It's just chance as to who you will run into and be capable of killing. People who are devout fans of FPS's probably won't like this game because it panders to much to an MMORPG fanbase, which is bad because this game is an FPS. In fact, I know none of my friends like it, and we all play FPS's together. Even my old clan from MAG doesn't like this game, and we had over 150+ members. I can't imagine people who love MMORPG's playing this game for more than a year, because this game falls right between the crowds it's supposed to pander to, and I doubt either crowd will catch it.
If everyone had about the same health, and/or the weapons did a decent amount of damage regardless of the weapons tier then this might be funner to play, but as it is right now you can have every beginning advantage when fighting someone and still lose, simply because they just have so many more hitpoints than you. 80 bullets should kill anyone. And if it doesn't kill anyone, then that weapon better reload fast as **** - but no, you have to spend hundreds of thousands of skill points to level up a weapon to have attributes it should already have.
Right now, this game is like playing paper, rock, scissors with worse graphics. |

You are describing an arcade game. DUST 514 was not made for you. I don't mean any disrespect, but I wouldn't wait around to see if your vision for DUST materializes. It won't. I promise you.
I promise you this game won't become popular enough for ANYONE'S vision of it to materialize. You can't make a FPS game this enormous then expect that many people to be okay with their gun game being completed disregarded. I appreciate your polite response though. I was expecting a more hostile crowd. |

the 3,000 player count increase in a week begs to differ.
Wow, okay, the game JUST released. Games are most popular when they just release. On release day, Black Ops had the following playing:
PC - 75,000 PS3 - 80,000 360 - 3,000,000
By the end of the first week, they probably had at least 10% playing(most likely WAY more, but I'm making an obvious point here) which means they were blowing Dust out of the water by twofold, minimum. So if you want to impress anyone intelligent, you'll need to say something smarter than what you just said.
Full Metal Kitten wrote:Clyde Night wrote:I promise you this game won't become popular enough for ANYONE'S vision of it to materialize We are going to have to agree to disagree. I made my statement based on more than a decade of experience watching CCPs vision unfold. A decade. DUST is symbiotic with EVE. This is not and never will be an arcade shooter. You are predicting failure, but you're not the target audience for the game. It's ok to say it doesn't work for you. It's all good.
In order for Dust to be viable to keep alive, it will need a bigger playerbase than what it currently has, but that's where the question is. Will enough people play this game longterm? Is the niche market that this game appeals to actually big enough? Most people who don't like this game simply won't play it, let alone come to the board, and they won't even feel cheated by this game being bad since they payed nothing for it so when this game dies you won't even hear how many people knew it had something wrong with it. |

Many mmo's go through several phases untill they reach thier full level of greatness, and Dust my friend is still in its earlystages.
Dust 514 is a hybrid among standards
Imo I believe this game will eventally reach its full potentinal in regards of the fps/mmo combine.
Being an FPS fan myself - I just don't think it will. I always have at least a 2 to 1 KDR, so I know I can aim and do well in FPS's, and I seriously doubt anyone who loves FPS's will choose to play this instead of any other FPS that's already out.
The only way I can imagine this game succeeding is if all the people who suck at FPS's jump onto this game and love the concept of not being required to have gun game to get kills... but even then, eventually everyones going to have the same stuff, and those players who got kills based off their equipment for so long will start to die more often, lose, and probably migrate to other games out of boredom. I thinki they should have just let EVE be the RPG role, and had DUST be the more FPS role with some focus on buying unique interesting skills (basically what most FPS's let you do nowadays anyway). |

I personally think they need to make more games like this that take more than "just" a quick hand/eye
I agree more games should be tactical, but this game requires too little hand eye coordination.
The problem with this though is you shouldn't need your team to save you from a heavy that you emptied your clip into. who you ran into one on one. I actually have been mowed down multiple times with my team by one laser rifle super hero who has invested way more time into the game than I can, so traveling with your team isn't the key to success. |

you got faced by a better gamer
That's really funny to hear you say considering how much you complained on the MAG forums. I owned you every time I met you by the way, but I'm not going to say who I am.
I guess it depends on what you consider makes someone a "better" gamer. Several times now, I've caught a heavy as he was in a firefight with one or more of my teammates. I'll unload my clip in his back, get hit markers but just can't finish him. Then he'll direct his attention on me and shred my handsome ass to pieces. Not sure where in that transaction he demonstrated he was a "better" gamer than I.
Also to anyone who reads this I've played CoD less than 5 times my entire life, so stop saying I want to make this game like CoD. I don't even know what CoD is like. |

Lol maybe I should try CoD again when I'm not drunk at a friends house then.
Really what I had in mind for how I would like the controls and enemy encounters of this game to be would be like MAG/Resistance 2/3. You could perk your character plenty and change how much health they had but everyone always had a legitimate chance to win or lose a faceoff - which is where guns skill determined the victor. You can't say that about this game. |
