I'm a little confused with this here. I currently run in a Minmitar Basic Light Dropsuit(the advanced) and was planning on moving into Scout Dropsuits after I capped out Minmitar Light at 5, but something kind of threw me off when doing some comparisons.
Since I run in a Minmitar suit, I compared the Prototypes of both Basic and Scout Minmitar suits, and they are, from what I can see, 100% identical. Stats and fitting are the same. Same CPU and PG, same amount of modules, same armor and shields, etc. I would expect some differences between the two, since Scout is technically a higher tier. Perhaps a better scan profile/scan range, maybe a slight increase in in CPU/PG, or an additional equipment slot/module. Both the Basic and Scout feature 3 High, 2 Low, 1 Equipment.
As I grew more curious, I decided to compare the Gallente Basic and Scout suits, and they as well are identical from one another.
Now, I just returned to Dust last week after about a 6+ month break. Last I played, we didn't have specific dropsuits like Scout or Sentinel or the like. So, maaaaaaaybe I'm missing something here, and maaaaaaaaaaaybe there's a difference between running a Basic and running a Scout, but if there is, I'm not seeing it.

Only difference in skilling into "Scout" dropsuits is the bonus it gets. Other than that... It's the same exact thing as basic light dropsuits, |

Minmatar scout suits give +25% damage with nova knives.
Gallente scout suits give +10% scan range per level.
Ultimately, if you do not feel like you will use nova knives, etc., you should stay in basic suits and save the 2 million SP. |

The little tidbit you are missing is that the skill to use the racial suits (minmatar scout for example) which are above and beyond the basic frame only in that you get racial bonuses.
Same suits- but for every level of skill commensurate to the suit you get the bonus listed in the skill description. For example- minimatar scout - each level gives you +5% profile dampening and +5% melee and nova knife damage.
So a basic light proto is what it is. A scout proto has +25% dampening and +25% melee/knife damage. And they are identical in every way save appearance. And there is also a huge price difference. Racial suits are super cheap compared to the basic light counterparts.
But! Given the sheer amount of SPs it takes to skill into the racial suits you'd think there'd at least be minor benefits. i.e. more base speed or shield or whatever. Kind of a head scratcher. |

2 million? oh it's much higher than that, try 3.5 million sp tp get to prototype scout, and that's after basic light suits...
Why the basic suits aren't simply 4 skills, one for each race I will never know :/ |

Honestly I'd rather it work the other way around; 4 racial basic skills and one specialization skill.
E.g. To skill into a Minmatar proto scout: Dropsuit Command II -+ Minmatar Light Dropsuits V -+ Scout Dropsuits V
And then to skill into a Gallente proto scout, since you've already trained Scout Dropsuits V all you need is Gallente Light Dropsuits V. |

They used to have ships that worked this way in eve but decided to instead sit them into racials.
Its more in line with the prgression mechanics of eve. The suits should be different from their base suits in stats and slots but right now at this point they are not. |

That's one of the problems with some of the specialization bonuses, they are forcing you to play a specific way. Got Minmatar Scout? Better be using nova knives. Going assault? Better tank those shields. Or what about Minmatar Assault? Better use an SMG. |

the variant suits, at least at the adv level, are cheaper.

Not quite. What they've done is restructured and split the basic skills.
Essentially what we had was: Racial Frigates -+ Destroyers -+ Racial Cruisers -+ Battlecruisers -+ Racial Battleships
Now we have: Racial Frigates -+ Racial Destroyers -+ Racial Cruisers -+ Racial Battlecruisers -+ Racial Battleships
Tech 2 specializations remain unchanged. Assault Frigates doesn't require any Racial Frigate to 5 -- It requires Spaceship Command, Engineering, and Mechanics 5 -- so I did make a tiny mistake in my suggestion.
Essentially, a comparable system in DUST would be training Dropsuit Command 5 along with some specialization relevant 'Dropsuit Upgrades' skills to 5.

Thats the thing - In Mass Effect MP (even though it was PvE) they gave an option along a skill path where you could "evolve a skill"
Now I am not sure what could be implemented in Dust that wouldnt break the game but that would be really cool if the specializations were at least a choice of 2-3 options or at Lv3 and Lv5 you chose a certain benefit.
Many ppl on here are offering us suggestions for racial benefits so it would be nice if the valid ones could be implemented to allow us to tailor our clones even more. |
