Hello, I just picked this game up and thus far, things seem to be quite overwhelming with skill distribution and the market itself. I have yet to use any of the allotted 500k SP given to players, but I now know what I want to specialize in. I plan to be a heavy HMG support tank, but I am a little confused as to where I should allocate my skills.
Any help is much appreciated. |

I think you could start putting some points into core skills (Skills with 1x multiplier), but after that some research on the forums/google is necessary :-)
This is an example: As a heavy armor is your friend - Get some skills to increase your armor |

Any help is much appreciated. Yeh focus on core skill you will need them on any dropsuit, general don't skill up any dropsuit more than lvl 3 and weapon lvl 3 at beginning because you will have problem with isk. If you like heavy put 2 damage mods to high slot and repair armor module to low slots you will have abaut 1000 hp |

I focused first on getting into the suit specialty I wanted, then focused on my tank and armor skills. Got the base armor and shield HP bonus skills to V, then worked on the assault rifle for a short bit. Got operation to V, and proficency to 2 or 3 I believe. Since I'm not combat focused (a logi), I stopped investing SP into offense, and moved back to tank.
Put both the skill for armor plate efficiency and armor repairer efficiency up to I, then hit the CPU skill a level so I could finish my tight fit, then brought the two aforementioned skills up to 2. I'm continuing to work on these two skills.
My thought process was first to get into the suit that will allow me to play the role I want to play, and then work on tank for survivability. I chose tank over gank as I'm not combat focused; I'm a support role. I'm no good to anybody if I'm dead all the time, so I will shoot the same direction if appropriate as any additional DPS is welcomed, but my focus is replenishing my squad. As a heavy, you may want to focus on weapon skills over tank, but that's a personal decision for you to make.
I've not looked into any heavy suits or weapons to know if blueprints exist, but isk is currently a non factor to me since I used some Aurum to buy blueprints for my suit. It's all low end stuff mind you, but it's not consumable, meaning it's very inexpensive to run. One battle is enough to buy me more suits than I typically consume in battle.
I intend to run cheap with low end suits and equipment while I continue to work on my tank skills, and eventually will put more SP into this SP intensive field (logi / support). Then I can think about bigger and badder suits and fits, but there's no point in spending the isk on this expensive things when I don't have the proper support skills.
In Eve, there's a big difference between being able to fly a ship, and being able to fly it well. Sure, you can fly the ship, but if you lack the proper support skills, you're not flying it well. I use this same philosophy for my drop suits. There's a difference between being able to put a suit on, and being able to actually put the suit to use. |

Heavy have BPO militia suit, or isk variant of the militia suit. I would say use that for now.
For a new heavy, I would suggest to stick to militia suit for a while, and distribute skills in : heavy weapon-->HMG to get the basic HMG. Shield and Armor basic skill, so you increase your base HP 5% per lvl Shield extender armor plate lvl3 , I suggest not going lvl 5 too fast, the complex plate give a 23HP bonus over the 2nd tier, but a -5% more to movement.
For the suit, I would wait for the other races to skill up. I am actually looking to respec so I can do that as well. Amarr are really made to stay in one place and defend. |

Thanks for the replies everyone, however, I grew impatient as soon as I returned home and decided to "skill up" before checking this thread again.
With the allotted 500k SP and with another 90k or so from two days of passive accumulation and some public matches, I ended up putting my points into:
-Necessary requirements to unlock the Assault HMG -" " first tier of Heavy dropsuits -" " Basic Shield Extender -" " Basic Armor Plates -" " Basic Armor Repairer
Thus far, I really enjoy what I have. My first matches with these items resulted in my placement of first in public matches: my best records being 18-3 and 16-4. Although I am content for now, I would like to know if my decisions would hurt me in the long run because of the dispersion of SP into different items all at once. |

That actually looks well-balanced. As others have suggested however, take a good look at the Dropsuit Upgrades tree and consider dropping some points into Armour Upgrades (and possibly shield upgrades). These will increase your base dropsuit values by +5% per level respectively. |

Not bad there is technically no bad decision eventually u will max out your main suit and weapon and start expanding into other things a decent side arm is always a plus in case u can't reload your hmg in time.
And if u already have skills in those areas it just means u don't have to waste sp on it but try not to spread yourself too thin by trying to learn too many skills at once or u will have to wait to build up your sp again to get the skill u really want. Kudos on the kd ratio with your new build. |
