I focused first on getting into the suit specialty I wanted, then focused on my tank and armor skills. Got the base armor and shield HP bonus skills to V, then worked on the assault rifle for a short bit. Got operation to V, and proficency to 2 or 3 I believe. Since I'm not combat focused (a logi), I stopped investing SP into offense, and moved back to tank.
Put both the skill for armor plate efficiency and armor repairer efficiency up to I, then hit the CPU skill a level so I could finish my tight fit, then brought the two aforementioned skills up to 2. I'm continuing to work on these two skills.
My thought process was first to get into the suit that will allow me to play the role I want to play, and then work on tank for survivability. I chose tank over gank as I'm not combat focused; I'm a support role. I'm no good to anybody if I'm dead all the time, so I will shoot the same direction if appropriate as any additional DPS is welcomed, but my focus is replenishing my squad. As a heavy, you may want to focus on weapon skills over tank, but that's a personal decision for you to make.
I've not looked into any heavy suits or weapons to know if blueprints exist, but isk is currently a non factor to me since I used some Aurum to buy blueprints for my suit. It's all low end stuff mind you, but it's not consumable, meaning it's very inexpensive to run. One battle is enough to buy me more suits than I typically consume in battle.
I intend to run cheap with low end suits and equipment while I continue to work on my tank skills, and eventually will put more SP into this SP intensive field (logi / support). Then I can think about bigger and badder suits and fits, but there's no point in spending the isk on this expensive things when I don't have the proper support skills.
In Eve, there's a big difference between being able to fly a ship, and being able to fly it well. Sure, you can fly the ship, but if you lack the proper support skills, you're not flying it well. I use this same philosophy for my drop suits. There's a difference between being able to put a suit on, and being able to actually put the suit to use. |
