The dropship is just a throwaway piece of equipment for the infantry player at this point and it makes just as much sense to skill deeply into it as to put all your points into LAVs.

I can max out the logistics class, then save up all the SP I get after that for the time "Soon(TM)" when dropships actually fill a needed role. I'll have another 10m SP by then and can skill back into piloting at that time.

If you're keeping up the good fight, I'm rooting for you. I'm just gonna go back to wasting fools on the ground (but this time, in proto gear, not militia and type 2 ). I can easily pull under 5 deaths in a match, so I will always come out significantly ahead in ISK than I ever could hope to as an effective DS pilot. Free LAVs to get from A to B, I'm good. And even if they enjoy the masochistic slaughter of forge guns, eventually any corps having to fund their non-stop hemorrhaging of isk will give up or go broke trying. Tons of ISK, no return on investment. Just so some kid can zoom around in a paper airplane with dynamite strapped to it? See how long that lasts. Games need balance to be fun, and this requires variety. Ground-514 is going to be amazing!...for cod fans.

I started this build with 135M ISK and I'm down to about 100M by now.

If you respec now to fix the skills they previously screwed up, you may not get to use it where everyone else is saving- for after the 'new skill' changes come. No telling when that is though so really you have to wait and keep your sucky skills till then.

Frankly I want a firm skill base before any changes occur, and even if I do get ****** over by the next skill change, I'll just suck it up, carry on, and adapt, as I have been ever since I started flying dropships.

I actually haven't tested the ADS being a ground vehicle guy and all but if it handles like the MLT DS I think I could pilot it to hunt and kill fighters using 2 gunners. the mryon handles like a brick even more now. it used to feel like driving a bus, now its worse.

You will be able to shred the Logistics DS since it now flys like the Queen Mary, but don't count on killing much else. The gun camera is crap and you will find your ship going its own way while you concentrate on shooting.

Yeah that's true, the new flight mechanics have a hand in it though, I really like the new forward flight mode.

I'm forced to throw out DU's and hives at the start to make any points, and then my flying is pointless because a dropship is of no use other than to induce the enemy to bring out AV, and that only lasts for a short time. I hate the frustration of being useless to my team. I'm a support player at heart and it bothers me. I feel like I'm just flying a kite while others do the work. I can still buy and fly a disposable Viper for the initial transport it's good for, but after that it's a liability. I'll never be invited to PC if I don't become useful. It doesn't mean I will abandon flying forever. There is always a chance in a year or two that CCP will inject a real need for dedicated pilots into the game and I will have another 10m SP saved to reskill into them at that time. I really would like that. I just can't fly a kite for that long waiting for it to happen. I got pretty good at the Logi role to fund my flying hobby, so I'll take that as my profession for now.

I've been disappointed with dropships since the beginning, yet I'm still flying them. With my Dropship costing around 1 million ISK a pop, it takes on average 5 straight games without losing a DS just to break even. My ADS lasts multiple games easily, (805 Sheild 2720 Armor), yet will always eventually get shot down in game 5 or 6 with a Forge Gun, RDV, or Railgun, costing me money overall. Where is the incentive here? On the other hand, ADS's are extremely fun, blowing up tanks using my cycled missiles is one of the best experiences I've ever had in a game. Cycled Missles IMO, are the best main weapon for an ADS at this point in time. I believe there is an imbalance with the Dropship. An imbalance between risk, reward, and entertainment. In a tank there is high risk (even more with Uprising), extremely high reward (Kills and Assist WP like crazy), and a good amount of entertainment from blowing everything to smithereens. Right now, in a DS (specifically an ADS), there is extremely high risk, very low- medium reward (medium at best), and an awesome amount of entertainment. (Half from flying and shooting, but half from avoiding everything out to get you) A simple fix to Dropships would be an ISK buff (I'm sure tank drivers deserve this as well). Well... I think that's about all I've got to say about ADS, submitted my ticket for a Skill Respec, still undecided if I will spec into ADS again. - Human Anamoly.

You can still fly a Viper on occasion, or even go to level 1 Standard and throw a few points into Vehicle Upgrades. I just wouldn't sink the majority of your points into it if I were you. I think we can agree that the ADS is fun but not all that useful, and the LDS is overly expensive, slow, and not that useful so you won't be giving up much. Over time we can throw more points at it as they gain a real mission. This doesn't have to be a permanent retreat.

I too lost 50 million in testing/learning ADS only to be killed by lolFG mitila's. I have 10 million in ADS and 6.5 mill of that is fully skilled in shields. Sorry, but i think im done for now.
