You will be able to shred the Logistics DS since it now flys like the Queen Mary, but don't count on killing much else. The gun camera is crap and you will find your ship going its own way while you concentrate on shooting.

I shall not succumb. enjoy poverty and being shredded in militia fits on ground for cash. 10 games should pay for your ship. maybe But you get the satisfaction of shooting people, that's the only real plus side to them, actually the other plus is that they're a dream to fly(at least I think they are). They are where the Myron was in Precursor. The rest are such pigs to fly that I feel the urge to get out and push.

I tried the new ADS and found the gun camera is crap and missiles are only marginally better than they were. When I took blueberries up in my Logistics DS half couldn't get any kills. I tried the best active scanner only to find I had to drag the ship along at rooftop level to have any range at all. The ADS is the only model that flies worth a damn. The others are absolute pigs. There is no way to be useful in the game with the stupid things, and I don't see that changing even if CCP coughs up a few WP's for pilots. They are going to have to fundamentally alter the game before that happens. I love flying and I've specialized in it since I started almost a year ago, but I believe it is time to move on myself. I could go Caldari Proto Logi with my 10.6m SP and be useful to my corporation. If they want transport I can buy and fly the Viper to get us where we need to go with no waste of SP. The dropship is just a throwaway piece of equipment for the infantry player at this point and it makes just as much sense to skill deeply into it as to put all your points into LAVs. I can max out the logistics class, then save up all the SP I get after that for the time "Soon(TM)" when dropships actually fill a needed role. I'll have another 10m SP by then and can skill back into piloting at that time.

I'm forced to throw out DU's and hives at the start to make any points, and then my flying is pointless because a dropship is of no use other than to induce the enemy to bring out AV, and that only lasts for a short time. I hate the frustration of being useless to my team. I'm a support player at heart and it bothers me. I feel like I'm just flying a kite while others do the work. I can still buy and fly a disposable Viper for the initial transport it's good for, but after that it's a liability. I'll never be invited to PC if I don't become useful. It doesn't mean I will abandon flying forever. There is always a chance in a year or two that CCP will inject a real need for dedicated pilots into the game and I will have another 10m SP saved to reskill into them at that time. I really would like that. I just can't fly a kite for that long waiting for it to happen. I got pretty good at the Logi role to fund my flying hobby, so I'll take that as my profession for now.

You can still fly a Viper on occasion, or even go to level 1 Standard and throw a few points into Vehicle Upgrades. I just wouldn't sink the majority of your points into it if I were you. I think we can agree that the ADS is fun but not all that useful, and the LDS is overly expensive, slow, and not that useful so you won't be giving up much. Over time we can throw more points at it as they gain a real mission. This doesn't have to be a permanent retreat.
