I'm going for a respec so I can streamline my sp, got it all over the place, partly as a result of the cockup CCP made of the skill tree. Still going to fly though, only thing I really enjoy about dust, despite all the damn crap that comes with it. |

If you respec now to fix the skills they previously screwed up, you may not get to use it where everyone else is saving- for after the 'new skill' changes come. No telling when that is though so really you have to wait and keep your sucky skills till then.
Frankly I want a firm skill base before any changes occur, and even if I do get ****** over by the next skill change, I'll just suck it up, carry on, and adapt, as I have been ever since I started flying dropships. |

Fighters will probably be faster, more manoeuvrable, and do more damage, ADS will probably be bait to it. Or be the attack chopper to the jet to draw a comparison with battlefield. Though blam mentioned lock on turrets in his last post, gives me hope for the future of piloting. |

I started this build with 135M ISK and I'm down to about 100M by now.
I started with 90m, I'm now at 35m |

I actually haven't tested the ADS being a ground vehicle guy and all but if it handles like the MLT DS I think I could pilot it to hunt and kill fighters using 2 gunners.
Vipers fly like a brick, pythons are much better in handling and speed, but I imagine that fighters will beat it in that regard. |

But you get the satisfaction of shooting people, that's the only real plus side to them, actually the other plus is that they're a dream to fly(at least I think they are). |

They are where the Myron was in Precursor. The rest are such pigs to fly that I feel the urge to get out and push.
Yeah that's true, the new flight mechanics have a hand in it though, I really like the new forward flight mode. |

I've been trying to justify flying for the past few days but I can't. I tried the new ADS and found the gun camera is crap and missiles are only marginally better than they were. When I took blueberries up in my Logistics DS half couldn't get any kills. I tried the best active scanner only to find I had to drag the ship along at rooftop level to have any range at all.
The ADS is the only model that flies worth a damn. The others are absolute pigs.
There is no way to be useful in the game with the stupid things, and I don't see that changing even if CCP coughs up a few WP's for pilots. They are going to have to fundamentally alter the game before that happens.
I love flying and I've specialized in it since I started almost a year ago, but I believe it is time to move on myself.
I could go Caldari Proto Logi with my 10.6m SP and be useful to my corporation. If they want transport I can buy and fly the Viper to get us where we need to go with no waste of SP. The dropship is just a throwaway piece of equipment for the infantry player at this point and it makes just as much sense to skill deeply into it as to put all your points into LAVs.
I can max out the logistics class, then save up all the SP I get after that for the time "Soon(TM)" when dropships actually fill a needed role. I'll have another 10m SP by then and can skill back into piloting at that time.

Crap, this was a sobering thread. Now I'm considering whether or not it's worth speccing into dropships again, maybe I should go tanking, I love the vehicles in dust and as much as I like helping people on the ground as a logi (or did before the skill tree changes) I just prefer to run vehicles. |
