I tried out the scrambler rifle on an alt today and had mixed feelings. I was limited to academy battles on my alt so couldnt test it vs anyone with decent gear. My impression is the charge dmg is amazing. I was using the advanced version on militia and std suits and only needed a second shot if I missed. On the other hand, the semi-auto fire is like a tactical AR with one major difference: RoF. When you compare the RoF of the scrambler rifle vs tac AR the tac AR seems to be slightly faster BUT....The tac AR has massive recoil so if you are shooting at 700+ rpm only your first 2 shots will hit. The scrambler rifle has virtually no recoil and therefore can be fired at its full 705 rpm.
The only drawback that I've noticed is it seems harder to aim than an AR. Has anyone approximated the dmg for a charged shot? |

They do like 50% damage to armor, I think ARs should do 50% damage to shields... |

It has a really crappy passive that doesn't help the weapon much. If you use the Assault variant, the weapon passive does nothing for you. It overheats too quickly. Tactical AR seems to outrange it, and you'll get gunned down by TARs the same as ever. |

Its fun to play with but clearly inferior to AR after you've used it for a bit.
When will CCP understand, range means EVERYTHING.
Its 120% to shields and i assume 80% to armor. Does a decent job, but I can get more kills with an AR. |

It seems like it will have a role. But that role is not "upsurper to the TAR".
I can see it being super useful for scouts in "blob" combat where staying out in the open is too dangerous. I can likely pop up with a pre-charged shot and fire into the blob, then back out, etc.
I can also see the charge shot being useful to dealing with roof top red dots who back out of line of fire any time they get hit. The ability to hit them hard up front before they can run will increase the chances of killing them.
I plan on having a SR build, but I dont know how hard ill spec into it right away.
Basically I think it will be good in team battles but not that great in solo play.

I've just been playing around with the 1st Assault Scarambler you can get for isk and I'm dubbing it the Assist Scrambler Rifle I kinda like it but at the same time it seems to lack something, possibly due to just the aiming atm, I've had to mess around with my settings again |

Tac ARs are still dominating any other weapon, I'm not impressed. But it's a little bit better, at least now I can shoot at them before they kill me in 5 shots for 130 dmg each.
Best thing to do is Headshot someone with the shot fully charged. :3

Too weak compared to the AR. The range should be much higher... I am actually shutting down midfight because I can't believe CCP still have the same old overpowered assault rifles... |

Gek 38 has a base damage of 35.7 HP and ROF of 750 RPM Advanced SR has a base damage of 75.6 HP and ROF of 705.9 RPM
So long as you are within range, the the Scrambler Rifle is clearly dominant on paper. Went and tried it out for awhile and I'm coming to the same conclusion.
Overheating can be a bit of a problem, but Amarr Assault may fix this. |

You're comparing it wrong, that's the semi SR. The auto SR has same ROF as semi with 35~40 damage. GEK wins with higher range, higher ROF and higher damage to armor. |

The math was done in another thread. ARs and Srs are virtually identical as far as DPS goes. The bonus of one over the other vs shields and vs armor is inverse. Damage wise they are 100%fine. |

Why use the Scrambler Rifle, when you can use the TAR, which does the same thing with no overheat drawback? I absolutely love the charge feature of the Scrambler Rifle, but firing semi-auto at a "decent" rate will make you overheat insanely quick, while I can fire faster on a TAR and not worry about anything. |

It makes for a wonderful mid-range sniper rifle, but the only 'worth' it has is the charging part. As mentioned by others, the semi-auto firing feature over-heats the weapon quickly. If you don't pay attention, you'll end up committing suicide before the enemy even has a chance to put the final round into you.
Other than that, I think it does need to have a bit of a range increase, at least to be on par with the TAR's we've got running around. |

Someone above posted but people don't seem to realize - the gun isn't going to destroy anybody due to it doing reduced damage to armor.
It plows through shielding (because that's what lasers do) so Caldari soldiers with high shields & low health are in trouble.... but good luck killing Gallente & heavies that have high armor.
Tac ar was balanced poorly; if it functioned the way it was supposed to scram rifle would be a worthy threat to it. Scram rifle does need help range wise though imo |

The bonus you get from levelling it up should reduce overheat. The current passive makes no sense. But, the weapon itself is really good, to me. At medium range things fall fast, I find. The sight helps. Easily the best sight. I don't find overheat to be much of an issue. Everything, except a heavy, dies before it can overheat. Those who are overheating it are using it too much like a TAR. And, of course, the charged shot is epicly entertaining. 1 shotting a scout is as fun as using a Viziam from the last build.
Haven't used the assault version, yet. Haven't skilled into it. But, I am seeing quite a few scrambler's out there. Which is really good. |

Depends on how you want to be doing things in the field. The Assault SR has a very low optimal range, slightly shorter than the standard assault rifle, but because it does reduced damaged to armour even engaging targets at that optimal is chancy. However within that optimal the Carthum varient really starts to shine absolutely eating shield alive, and witha very nice rate of fire sometimes even armour as well.
It isnt worthless to specc all the way up to the cathum, its a very nice gun, just requires a bit more finesse to work into most players playstyles. |
