I've been using the quantum active scanner for a couple of days and comparing to the other active scanners and have noticed some discrepancies.
1. The quantum active scanner does NOT pick up personel. I aim it in the appropriate direction and no one pops up on minimap only to have someone duck out form behind a box and shoot me as I just finish a scan facing them. This includes heavy dropsuits that absolutely have scan profiles much higher than 36 dB.
2. The "16 sec" time window in which someone should stay on the minimap is also not working at this time. For the advanced active scanner the "5 sec" target visibility duration is 1-2 sec. Similar values for the standard active scanners as well.
I've had confirmation of my observations by several other players I've consulted concerning "Target Visibility Duration" |

I'm having similar problems with the enemies not staying on the HUD for the described time, But I cannot speak to the quantum scanner not picking up personnel. I am skilling into the scanners and will test it for myself

I played again this afternoon, and I had no issues. Quantum was 16 sec visibility with appropriate range and personnel scanning. Same for the other std and adv active scanners (@5 sec visibility). So either it's situational or has been resolved.
It seemed to help if you maintain the scan area in one place for the whole scan duration, swinging the range reduced the accuracy of the scan (not quantitative just my subjective observation).

Played between 6:45 and 7:00 AM UTC and it was still broke. Enemies I could see, I scanned and then they disappeared without any error on the scanner. Disappeared immediately after 2 seconds. There is still a bug with this thing. |

I haven't gotten any of the active scanners (basic level) to light up reds for the time advertised on the package. In my experience, getting the initial ping maintained depends on a blue actually seeing the red before the ping goes away. Bleh. |

Still having troubles with the scanners. I'll look for some more information to get a better idea on whether or not i'm using it correctly - point, click, expect enemies to stay on scanner. |

Still interested in a response as I haven't seen an explanation on the decreased time enemies are on my Hud or other players Hud. Looking for some answer of either advice, explanation, or an acknowledgement of a known problem. Can anyone help? |

I run the scanner in most of my fits. I've figured out how it works, for the most part. There ARE matches where it's completely bugged though. Anyway, in the case of the quantum scanner...
1) Initiate scan: This leaves you lit up on the enemy radar for the full 2 second scan time. During this time, 'anything' inside of the scan 'cone' is detected. Take note of the shape of the cone on the radar.
2) Switch back to your gun: This (obviously) puts the scanner away. The 'area' you just scanned is irrelevant. What IS relevant is the scan cone. This area (in front of your suit) is the area of the scan. NOT the ground you just lit up. NOT the red dots you just lit up. The area in front of your suit.
3) As you move the scan remains tied to your suit's field of view. For example spinning in a circle slowly will reveal all units within a 100m radius of your location. I'm unclear as to whether or not they'll receive a "you've been scanned" notice at this time.
4) For 14 additional seconds (the two second scan time is counted against the 16 second duration) everything in front of you, in your field of view is revealed.
I hope this clarifies.... and I hope my corp mates aren't pissed at me for telling you all how this works. = ) |

Wow. Thanks for the info, I'll have to test this out.
Assuming this is indeed how the active scanners work, that's pretty messed up. I don't think anyone would read the item description and then suddenly understand all that.
Also, that just means there's even less reason (i.e. none at all) to spec passive scanning if you can just use the active scanner like that. |

I've used advanced scanners for a couple weeks and have noticed that in close to half the matches I use it, it doesn't scan anyone. The first days I used it, it seemed to work most if not all of the time but as the days went by, it began to work less and less. |

I'll give it a shot and see what happens. That it wouldn't keep certain enemies on the radar and instead give me xray vision seems counter intuitive to a handheld device... but oh well. We'll see. Thanks |

I find that in certain matches the damn thing just doesn't work. I'll scan someone I can SEE (usually a heavy) and they simply don't show up. She'sa no gude!
I'll keep my eye on whether or not this is a specific map thing or what...

<3 Yeah well... I feel OP enough with the damn thing as it is. At least someone else could try it for a minute. = )

As I said, I've used it a LOT. Took me more than a few hours to work out the details. If it DID lay down a 'scan field' in a certain area... well I'd imagine it would be just as OP. You'd simply have to scan slightly more frequently.
Worth mentioning, I've never bothered with the vehicle based equivalent. What I've said applies ONLY to the handheld version, specifically the Quantum and Flux variants. I've no experience with any of the others for several reasons. |

I didn't realize my thread was still active....I just started a new thread since I noticed that in very specific matches (eg FW/PC) the scanner is still bugged and will not ping enemies regardless of your technique. In normal matches (pubs) they seem to work as advertised.
