Talking about skills here. I suggest that any and all CORE skills (not skills like Weaponry, SMG operation, Kinetic Catalyzation etc.), you skill up to LVL IV and then move on. E.g. Dropsuit Armor/Shield Upgrades, Dropsuit Electronics/Engineering.
Reason being... LVL V takes the same amount of SP as LVL 1/2/3/4 put together, for 1/4 of the gain.
Don't sink ISK in to the LVL V upgrades! |

Well it depends, whilst level 4 is a great level sometimes you don't even need it depending on what you are after, or then you need that nasty level 5 just to perfect your fit, which is usually the case when fitting proto tier weapons and modules.
Oh and also with the skill multipliers being higher than before one should really think if they need level 4s or if they can get away with lower levels. It all makes a big difference. My advice is to put a level or two into core skills and then try and fit what you want on a specific suit and adjust the core skills from there based on need. |

respectfully I disagree. I run assault - may be different for other classes depending what you can fit on a suit or a vehicle etc.
I think it is best getting shield extension first to level 5
complex shield extenders give you 66hp
the best level 4 shield upgrade can give you is what 44hp? for 310k sp
because if you shield tank you can get a bonus of 198hp - its a lot of sp but 310sp is already a full week of grind you will need for extenders anyway.
then if you wanted to you can get shield upgrades.
(I put shield upgrades to lvl 4 not sure I would now until maxed out cpu and pg, but thats just me) |

Talking about CORE skills (passive skills) and not skills that give you access to an item. Shield extension to V is a must, but shield upgrades to V isn't.
If you can help it, keep a skill down as low as possible as the further you skill up you get less bang for your buck. |

I agree generally on the passive Armor and Shield boosts of 5%, especially if you already start with a low base number in those, that extra 5% of 90 isn't worth half a mil.
For PG and CPU though, it really is based on what you need and once you're up into high proto gear and specialized suit builds sometimes another 5-10CPU or 2PG is all you need to fit your perfect suit. But that's also part of the game in the first place. |

Agreed on stuff if you're leveling it simply for the skill bonus and not to get access to gear. You trying to get shield extenders? Yeah go for 5. You trying to increase your armor or shields by 5% per level? Most definitely stop at 4. Level 5 is still good, but those skill points can be better used elsewhere while you are limited on skill points, and once you've racked up more than enough you can come back and get that extra 5%.

But that's also part of the game in the first place. This is what really sucks about the Amarr Medium suit and Amarr heavy suit. Your shields and armor are equal so you really need both skills to get around the same effectiveness as a Gallente only doing the armor skill or Caldari only using the shield skill. Oh, and if you are Gallente don't even both with the shield skill and vice versa for Caldari. Getting to Level 5 only gives you 30 more hitpoints, is that really worth all those points? |

Nice tip. Sometimes 3 is fine too. They took weaponry out of the game, but running with L3 or L4 weaponry was something many players did until they could fit better gear.
Just because you can, does not mean that you should. Struggling to fit a nice gun and a damage mod is sometimes worse than getting a better suit/pg/cpu/weapon/etc etc. |
