This is something that I am very interested in doing and we've talked about this internally. I haven't actually made a prototype of this yet, but it should work ... in theory All the information is there, we just have to find a way to make it work together
I've also been toying with the idea of finding events that happen in EVE that could somehow have an effect on the environment. For example, if a Titan would explode in orbit around the planet, it make the atmosphere thinner and show more of a nebula, Similar to what happened on Caldari Prime where the Titan went down. Even making it rain ash and fire after a large battle for a few hours. Even some sort of an energy pollution
This would make planets that have more activity look more dramatic with a view into space and a more dynamic environment
These are just ideas in my head though |

That is something we want to do and have made prototypes of but we are focused on making the terrestrial planets perfect now, so its unlikely that you'll see terrestrial environment with a dramatic geological feature in the distance.
When we do a volcano, it'll be a proper volcano probably on a lava planet.
That being said, we want to get to a point where a player feels like home in a district that he has fought on before (for example if you are defending your home district). So even if its maybe not going to be a full blown volcano we still want to put effort into making them look memorable.
Halador Osiris wrote:I know you guys are discussing the skybox, but way up high in my Python I've seen this city far off in the distance that looks really cool. Will we ever have an opportunity to fight in that? XL socket?
I agree that they do look very cool.
That area is not really made for game-play so you wouldn't have much fun playing there . We can do environments like these pretty easily, the problems with them is that they are a little bit boring in terms of what they are. Its just an urban area and although they look good they don't have much of a purpose in planetary conquest. So I don't think we'll be seeing a full blown urban city like area in the near future, but I'm that you'll see many of the SI's have more of an urban support network in the future. |
