In a game that pladges to hold dear the many facets of teamwork, are there any plans slated for CCP to give in game recognition to our beloved pilots?
Recognition ingame meaning warpoints. Currently there is no in game reward for the valuable assets they provide: insertion into objectives, mCRU points, surviving encounters with turrets, hasseling advances granting an oppotunity for ground forces to break lines, and providing us an awe inspiring illustration of flight.
If ISK rewards for battles are in any way tied to WP they should be given a way to tap into the pool and get their fair share.
There are many ways they could be granted WP. But right now they just get no love. They provide invaluable support and yet are expected to dump millions of SP into their craft. And millions more ISK into their fits. We as corps praise them for their dedication and help in the heat of battle.
They are truly under-estimated and under-rewarded by the game mechanics. So, CCP, is there anything on the front to resolve this issue that hurts the playability of such a dedicated class of soilder, and person.
I leave you with this quote from K.O. Eckland, "Footprints On Clouds"
Within all of us is a varying amount of space lint and star dust, the residue from our creation. Most are too busy to notice it, and it is stronger in some than others. It is strongest in those of us who fly and is responsible for an unconscious, subtle desire to slip into some wings and try for the elusive boundaries of our origin. |

I completely aggree with you. I have spent most of my sp into DS's, and specially now with the seperate skill tree.. I'm not viable on ground as much. But in air i am an game changer. But i am not rewarded as i think as fair as an ground person. The mCRU is great module, but it only benefits the team, even though the pilot spent his money, time, and isk to help. Any return in money or sp boost? Nope. Just tiny isk and sp recieve. Thier not cheap. This is my input |

Absolutely agree. Makes it pointless to spec into because it does nothing to help your SP as it stands. |

it is sad that I started a game and got called on the phone by work so I spawned into the mcc.. I did about as much SP that I usually do in a dropship the entire game then I do AFK in the MCC
Just spent all my SP in dropships cuz they told they would fix it.. so this is my Q_Q as usual
I still need to beg my corp for isk and and cry about my SP on this forum about once a month or so..
how many YEARS will i have to wait? (1 year of dust soon for me) |

Merc gets out of DS, 1 minute countdown starts (it's not visible on screen). Within that minute, any kills or hacks he does give the DS pilot an assist. Merc must be in the DS a minimum of 15 seconds to trigger this effect.
THERE CCP, I MADE AN ANSWER FOR YOU. |

That is just one piece of a solution. But i dont believe that even that would be enough of a reward for our flying friends.
Thanks for the input and I can obviously see that you are frustrated with the situation like I am.
A few simple tweaks would do wonders. |

In two matches today I lost 1.2 mil worth of dropships and made a whopping 60k ISK for my efforts. This is going to go well. |

I Lost over 30+ Million Isk on Monday. Potential income maybe around 2 mil? Possibly? So, yeah i have lost money. I was trying to relearn the controls. Yes, i did fly into an mountain several times going backwords, (blame camera controls now) but now have learned. The "bump" dectection is fixed thankfully... but not fullly. Bumping another vehicle so slightly will resault in a crash and guess what?!? The most feared enemy of any DS pilot; The Light Poles are still an insta kill to us.
But i will resume to spend isk until i am completely broke or i will get to an point that i am able survive. |

I think another problem is the isk and SP cost to spec into them. You have nothing left over for a ground fit. So you are pretty much screw as far as making isk goes.
Last bulid it wasn't so bad, most skills overlapped so you could run a assault/logi/scout side bulid while still being able to fly.
No isk=no dropship.

2 matches today, made 200k ISK, didn't lose a ship. I think it's just a case of finding out how to use the new DS's best, things are quite a bit different than they were before, new handling, new base stats etc.
And the level of enemy AV, that's important too, can vary match to match. |

They say that they have 'plans.' But then again, they've been saying that for a LONG time. And we still don't have LAA's or Amarr/Minmatar dropships. Or the Pilot Suit.
Honestly, CCP needs to just have a big build just for air vehicles. Give us jets, give us the Pilot Suit, and actually reward people who spend tons of SP and ISK for flying well. |

The most feared enemies of the DS aren't the light poles but the RDVs... Trust me, does things pop out of nowhere. |

Yes and in those same two matches I can earn at least 400K ISK, and more foten than not that is the low side. I just want to see them get point for the things they are capable of doing. As a Heavy, am capable of killing, assisting, and hacking. Every foot soilder has the capability for various paths to accrue WP. There needs to be more paths for the pilots. Lest they go the way of the missles. |

Not disagreeing with that, my python costs a million ISK a fit, I lose one and I'm down 5 games worth of ISK. The turret prices are kind of ridiculous, though module prices are in a good place right now. |

And the level of enemy AV, that's important too, can vary match to match. It sure is possible to stay ISK-positive for a while, but in the same manner it's very possible to lose a dropship to a single militia swarm launcher volley during a pickup (lol, collision damage!).
What I'm mostly on about is that the ISK payout calculation for dropship pilots is rather far off. Even when my gunners kill a bunch of people for me I don't get nearly as much ISK than when I use my pea-shooter AR to amuse myself about the new AAA shooting mechanics.
I don't even know how it calculates the payout. My gunner took down an Assault DS with a prototype front turret (as witnessed on the killfeed) and even more stuff, but I still got only 30k ISK for that round. |

Yeah, the ISK we get for doing our job and risking so much ISK ourself is incredibly unfair, and I get much more ISK when I run around on foot, but I fly because I love flying, not to make ISK, that's just a bonus.
And at least collision damage is gone now, no more tap a lamppost=instadeath, you can now get a good guess on whether or not you'll survive an impact. |

I find it very easy to gain wp in a ds. Just need to be the squad leader and set the defend order to one of your gunners |

Heck, CCP may add light poles to RDV's just for the heck of it.

Lamppost still does insta death, there is some specific one's that i found that will instakill you. But other than that, YES i love the major reduction to collision damage. |

That is a good option, but unless your gunner has skills into turret operation and you have a great pilot and a great gunner, it is still only one way (kill assists) for pilots to accrue points. It is a bit unbalanced, vs. the multiple ways a soilder on the ground can.

THERE CCP, I MADE AN ANSWER FOR YOU.
Not the first time that has been proposed, not by a long shot. However I like that the same idea came from some one new, at least 6 months after the first time it was suggested. |

So about dropships and love.
First, there's a price cut in plans for them. We'd like to make them more affordable especially on the lower end to make them easier to get into. The learning curve can be pretty rough if you can't afford mistakes. Dropships also provide the kind of cooperative gameplay that we would like seeing more of.
Second, we're taking a look at the SP requirements for different paths overall and making sure that skill costs are appropriate for what you're getting. Progressing into being a dropship pilot (or something else, for that matter) should ultimately be a fun and rewarding endeavor, not a grind.
Third, we're aware that flying dropships as your job doesn't allow you to make a solid living right now. It's getting looked at. We want to give some more WP-reward love to the dropship pilots. You should be able to be the trucker of the skies without having to finance your job by doing other things in between :)
This was posted in this thread, https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=767935
just thought i'd let everyone know who saw this thread and was hoping for something to change. It seems as though they are actively looking into it.
Good Luck Pilots!
