I will play this game til the wheels fall off.
Nope, you'll play it until something better comes along or your clan/friends migrate to something better. That's why CCP had better make sure they stay competitive against the next couple iterations of other FPS. BF4 will dent the player base in a big way I imagine, especially if they do large scale battles on PS4. |

Not really. A lot of others fail to even grow sharply. For just some more recent examples see Star Wars, Conan, Warhammer, City of Heroes |

While that is correct in some cases, those games still have very dedicated player bases and the devs still support and release new content (that im sure of) for SWTOR and CoH. Conan died from the very beginning and Warhammer I never payed attention to.
A large population of players believed Guild Wars would fail and it started with a small player base because it was a WOW clone. Now that game is thriving and is FTP.
What I believe goes unnoticed or that not enough credit is payed, is the fact that CCP is very active with its community of players. What other games out there have player councils that have the direct "ears" of the devs. What other games out there, especially for consoles, have dev's very active on forums? I'm not ignoring the fact that there are issues with the game, but at least there is a very engaged dev group that is working on it. |

I think not enough people have been around small community games enough to realize that this game will go far. But even then in those small communities there will be people who have chalkfull of doubt to throw at people. Fact is, this game will go strong and just because you have been around great games that started good they died fast, in case ya haven't noticed that just yet. So I'm completely fine and contempt with this game starting slow and making mistakes while its small to level out its mistakes before it goes big.
Be respectful to the game that you are some of the few people who will be around for this game at the very begining learning when it was at the start and seeing this game grow to a very big game that it is destined to be. While it may seem to be dying, it isn't at all. It is growing and at the very least when it makes mistakes they fix it and not to mention listening to the community and filtering the complaints to find true problems.
This isn't 'just another FPS', this is a different game that is the same as the rest. It diversifies into a different genere of FPS that is its own, not to mention linking into another game unique only to Dust514. If you believe this game is dying, then you are very short sighted. Please re-evaluate your thinking if you believe that this game is dying. It's not. It's only the beginning of a long path to a better, greater future. |

Posted this in Mobius's thread as well, but I'll follow up with what a dev said when I made a thread like this...
TBH I am worried about the health of the game. I am surprised but happy they gave us a player count tool on login.
The highest I saw the player count get in E3 was 3k.
The highest I've seen so far this build is 4.5k.
I am amazed that this game is FREE and hardly anyone is playing it. It's new, it's different, it's an FPS so why aren't more people jumping on the miniscule bandwagon to play the game?
I seriously don't understand why the player count is so low. One thing post E3 that made the game fun again was all the influx of new blood, I was tired of seeing the same 300 people in my games (still am). But for a week or so it was nothing but new people in the player lists and it was great.

I understand they want to build this game the way they did EVE. I just don't know if the FPS player base will stick around the way the PC player base did. |

Do some math and you will probably end up with around 300.000 people at least playing the game over a month. If you are expecting everyone to stay logged in all day and do nothing in game, you are kinda wrong. Assume everyone spends only 1 hour playing each day. 24 x 5000 = 120,000 Assume that, because it was a weekday that the new build dropped, we can double that number to count people on weekends. 120,000 x 2 = 240,000 Where did you get 300,000 from? I love how you come up with a purely speculative number based on rough and uneducated factors and then ask where another poster got their speculative numbers from lol. DUST 514 is still in beta. Just you watch, when CCP starts building and advertising GLADIATOR mode, PvE Rogue Drone mode, EVE ship boarding Penetration mode and zero gravity matches in a game with tanks, jeeps, attack ships, fighter jets, bikes and mechs...for FREE on PS3, Vita and PS4 (its gonna happen). Haha @ Doom n Gloomers. Little to no future vision. :) I was deliberately providing numbers that are as optimistic as possible for providing the largest number I can come up with that sounds remotely close to being reasonable, just to demonstrate that there's no support for claiming as high a number as the person I was quoting had claimed. Even making wildly optimistic assumptions to artificially inflate the resul, I came up short of the suggested result by more than 50,000. |

It's because it's not very good as a shooter and it's inpenetrable for newcomers.

I donGÇÖt think I have seen the number reach 5,000 yet. Usually itGÇÖs 4,500 at most. I always thought Dust 514 had a small audience, but I didn't realize it was this small. I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering there are so many names I recognize when I look at the player list before I go into a match. At times it feels like IGÇÖm in the closed beta again and going up against the same playerGÇÖs game after game. IGÇÖm not sure if that will ever change either because this build is even more difficult for new players than the last build was. |

I will play this game til the wheels fall off but I was curious.. oh yea CCP the heavy class is broken.. the range is waaaaaay too short and the damage is weak even with complex modz.. I'll be frank: The one thing CCP is known for is taking a small player base and constantly expanding it. 5,000 is LOWLOWLOW for a consoles first day launch - but this was after 4 months of it already being available. People WILL return in years to come, just like EvE, especially as new content comes and CCP finally gets mechanics right. Emphasis on years. lol That will not work for a console game. |

It is pretty bad when tons of primarily fps players say its bad, and even though it's free, you still can't get them to play. I started back in July last year and it has gone down hill more and more with each build. I miss the high SP rewards, the high HP suits. Back then the game was fun because it didn't take long to get into higher tier gears, no thinking oh crap i have to hit the cap for the next (x amount) of weeks just to get such and such. Battles were so much better, sure it had it's bugs but it was FUN. All the complaining combined with the fact CCP use a sledgehammer to nerf things ruined this game imo. |

Two of those games have an instant fan following due to the franchises involved (they literally could have been the worst games ever, but still would have had tens of thousnads of players to start), and all four were super-hyped to the point everyone expected gaming perfection. You picked four examples which were all contrary to the norm. |
