So, I have just over 3.1 mil sp, and according to the forums, Anyone below 8 mil, is completely screwed. So, what should I spend my precious sp on first? |

any time you throw "and according to the forums" into your post, you're screwed.
don't give up on yourself so easily. if you were trying to get into PC on day one, you would have made sure you had more sp on day one. |

Skill into what you like. Go for survivability first then dmg. Pm me in game if anyone needs help I will be on all day to disvuss builds and how to properly use your SP. |

Play cover. Play smart. Don't go straight to any red point that you see in the map. Don't worry about people with Proto, just be careful. If you empty a full AR clip in some guy, you will kill him.
You don't need to go into "face to face" battles. Look at the stats when you aim an enemy. If is too much for you, turn around, try to take him from behind or find some team mates.
This way you can play so much better even if you don't have any proto thing.
Remember that PROTO is not GOD. You can kill a proto guy with a militia shotgun easy. The same with a Forge Gun (1 good shoot).
Try to use all the militia stuff that you can and then go for the best for you.
Revive a team mate = 60 wp.
Kill an enemy = 50 wp.
If you want to be an assault but you can't go in front at first. Use a nanoinjector. Stay behind and support the others. Save SP and then spend it.
If you want to go support. Stand behind and focus and support your team.
There are many ways to help your team and get a lot of SP, WP and ISK.
The best I can tell you is "Cover is your friend". "Don't go straight to any red point". "Look at the stats when you aim". "Stay behind and support till you can be in the front and take the bullets for your friends".

Don't worry - Vets will have more SP than you, but you don't need a protosuit to compete. Find what you like to do and put enough SP into it to be effective, but not max it out. If you don't take skills to level 5, you won't need nearly as much SP, and level 5 skills are generally a luxury. |

According to Iron Wolf Saber, "1.8 million skill points nets you your first protosuits". People keep forgetting about the basic suits like the basic light medium and heavy. The basic medium is pretty much an assault anyway.
I have 4.5 million, and I'm not worried. |

The game will be different than what it was. Things will take more time but you should still be able to be in a Standard Suit. Being in lesser suits is not terrible. Hell, I have stuck with a Standard Assault suit most of the time and seem to do okay. In EVE, it took me about 4 months to get into a Standard Battleship (Raven) and be able to do decent with the Missiles. It took another 2-3 months to actually be able to grind missions easily.
What I HATE is the basic skills being increased. The PG/CPU increase skills are 5X now. Basic skills shouldn't take weeks to get one to 5...

i was just messing around on an alt with 500k sp. One OMS game I was able to go 9 and 1 with just a pair of Assault Submachine Guns on a militia assault suit.
Having enough SP to maximize every single skill you want will give you an edge, but it's not the most important thing. You can pop a guy in a PRO suit with a well placed Militia Locus Grenade.
Don't max out individual skills. It's better to have level 3-4 in every skill you need than to max out to level 5 in one or two skills. With low SP, you can't afford to pay extremely high cost to get that last 5%, and frankly you won't need it any time soon. |

The OP said he had 3.1 million, meaning he should still have 1.3 mil left for modules, equipment, and modules. |
