Let me first start of by going over my roots in first person shooters and their progression. First game I played multiplayer as first person was James Bond Golden Eye on the N64. My cousin picked up the sniper rifle, ran to the back of this hallway with only one way in. i walked around the corner, and blam, I'm dead. Respawn, rinse and repeat. Next Comes the game Unreal tournament on the PC, my first MMO FPS. Epic, weapons were balanced, and no notable sniper moments ever come to mind on this game. I then moved on to the Delta Force series. This was the first modern combat style game I came across that I liked. At this time I had not yet joined the military, but may have helped influence me to join later. My first game, I load in, see my team mates running in front of me, so I follow, 3 seconds later, I am struck down by a sniper hidden in the hill line. Once again...respawn, rinse and repeat. A few games later this pattern would continue, with maybe 1-2 kills per game, but I sure was raking up the deaths! After I got the feel for the controls, I realized something must be done about these guys! Camper was not a term yet coined, so I referred to them as the guys too scared to actually fight, mixed with many curse words of course. A clear pattern began to happen. Both teams spawn, run straight from their spawn straight towards the enemies. people accept the snipers, and just tried to outrun them while they tried to confront the ground fighting forces. I did not accept this myself, and wondered what would happen if I ran backwards, then to the far edges of the map? Would it be possible to sneak up on these 25-0 perfect kdr super stars? I tried it, and it worked too well. I found there blind spots with little trial an error, and began to hunt and kill nothing but these sniper pussycats. I even started to troll (yet another term not yet used) on those snipers. I would go prone, crawl through them with my knife in hand (there was no hit detection for players when they were both prone). They would see my hands in front of there face, hand clinching my blade. Panic ensues on there part. I just go back to the kneeling position and knife lunge. Over the years I look for possible sniper locations, memorize, and use this knowledge to try to avoid their kill zones, and use the info to flank and kill them, bringing me my true euphoric experience I crave from FPS, kill kitten pussycats snipers. |

In games with kill cams I like to sneak up on camping snipers and teabag them before I kill them, juvenile I know but I want them to know how much time I had and how easily I got the drop on them Damn shame the redline gives them so much space to hide in untouched here |

They're part of warfare, get over it. They're probably the only part of the game that resembles real combat. When a sniper does their job properly they provide a squad with excellent support and intel. Yes, it is frustrating when you're on a roll and one pops you. |

The sad part is that snipers in most games don't represent modern warfare. Typically a squad under sniper fire would try to find the sniper and then call in an Airstrike or Mortar fire on him while they just chill out. There isn't alot of indirect fire support in most games to make up for snipers, though Battlefield 3 did it pretty well with the scout mortar rounds. |

No, no, I'm a career sniper too. I've just expanded my game for the squad and upped my turret skills for when they need me there. That's our tactic for snipers. If I'm snipping they mark them and I hit. If they bring a dropship out I'm hitting with a turret. |

Good luck with that. First thing Drops and HAVs do is take out turrets. |

Lol, if you roll around in a turret, then you aren't a career sniper. You are Dropship Crew lol. And if you tell me you can snipe from a moving dropship with a SR. I'll just leave that comment alone. |

Like I said, I got into some other skills to be of more help to my squad. You should see the places a good dropship pilot can put a sniper, high and out of sight.Lol In return sometimes they ask me to man a turret, it's called team work.

I recently inspired a ton of Sniper hate... I was in a match, with my brand new sniper character, and I'm sitting at the hills behind Objective C. The entire enemy team was full of morons (Probably not a nice word, as I still haven't moved that character out of 'Academy' level...), and they would keep heading for C. One guy tried to take A, but I headshotted him while hacking, and then they preceded to run in straight lines towards my covered Objective. A couple were smart and stayed over at B (out of Militia Sniper Range), but I used my TAC-SR to kill them. :P
Ended up with around 13 kills, 0 deaths. It was just hilarious sometimes, I actually invited my brother to watch me, because they would start running in a zig-zag, so I couldn't get them, but then they'd bring their noob side out, and just crouch for no reason in the middle of the open. :P
They also kept throwing anti-snipers at me but after headshotting each one while they were aiming, I ran out of ammo. This is the only time I got hit, while I was resupplying at a supply depot. They STILL couldn't kill me with the 214 damage round they shot at my foot (They could only see my foot. They were at B, and on the other side of the supply depot...), but then I just switched builds to speed up the reload process, went back to my shelf, and got my next 3 kills. :D
EDIT: Also, they game before that, I got about 21 kills, (forgot number of deaths, but I used the assault for a while, so probably 4 or 5), ad was in first place. Ended with a little more than 1400 WP in my pocket. Look at the stats for the guy in second place:
K/D: 8/6 WP: 600
I win. >:D |

I see these posts a lot. I never really understood why so much hate for snipers. I started dust as a sniper, I talked to some other 'career sniper' after playing since closed beta up till uprising release as a sniper I have to say, 90% of 'snipers' suck. Most don't move from their original hide and if they get several kills from it tend to run right back after they're killed, or are to busy scoped in to realize they just got shot. And rarely you see a sniper in the top spot in a match. Setting weak counter sniper role easily takes care of red liners. I do agree people who redline don't deserve the moniker of sniper. |

You hate snipers because you either don't move around enough or don't pack enough shields and armor to not die in one shot. |

Uh.... Wrong. He hates snipers because they're MLG (A headshot can OHK pretty much anything, I should know), a "useless" part of the team, in the sense that they don't seem like they're doing anything. And even when he does survive, he has lowered health so he doesn't survive the second shot and/or the firefight hes heading to. That's why I think he hates snipers. I wouldn't call the guy a noob. As you can see, he has a lot of FPS history. He's probably better than most who posted here. :P |

Shotguns are my known primary. I'll snipe if my significant other is at home, getting talkative, and ruining my concentration. That being said, a crappy sniper can easily get 15 Ks in a match. That's 10% of the clone count in Skirmish. There is value to the position. The hate is generated from teams with more than 2 snipers, who are now unable to guard checkpoints or sufficiently stack up against the opposition's infantry. The hate for redline whores: I understand the need for a redline. I prefer it to invisible walls. But, the should be a timer. Each clone should be allowed 1 minute in the red per spawn. Turrets are fun, as long as they're not on a DS. And easy WPs if you get one that's well placed. Called in a red HAV? Dead - before the RDV could even drop it. If I know we have multiple snipers out and I get sniped by the same guy, same spot, repeatedly, you will receive a well-deserved FU over the comms. |
