I love this game. And I trust that it will continue to improve, but I won't just get my arse kicked forever. The "gods" and such wipe me out, all the time. I have a job, in real life, and I play 20 matches a week, but I'll never catch up to the guy who plays twice that much and spends cash for great gear. I love this game, but what do I do? I've been trying to play "catch up" since January. Spent real money, almost $30. Anybody I get to try Dust just quits. Maybe the biz model is to have guys who don't work for a living build up SP, buy great gear, and just win. How long can that last? Once it's just the elites, will they keep playing? Maybe? I've stuck around longer than any of my pals. Made a small corp and everything. If no changes are implemented, I fear that Dust will become... a joke in the Eve circle. "Remember Dust?" And thus, not a single kitten was given on that day. HTFU (Harden the Kitten up.) If you can't get kills, then just keep the people who can get kills alive(logibroing/repper tool assault suit) Or just grab a militia LAV and do stupid (kitten) while trying to get wee-todd-did kills. Slingshotting yourself while charging nova-knives. |

1. Don't try to catch up with others. Doing so was your first mistake. You should have played to improve your own skills (not talking about skill books here).
2. There will always be someone you can never catch up to in every game you play no matter what. There is no point in trying.
3. May 6 is coming. New build is coming out with soooooooooooo many changes that the folks who went to Fanfest to try it out reported that it feels like a completely different game. So before you quit, wait until then and judge for yourself. |

I play less than you do and I really dont have a problem in the game. Some times I get stomped, some times I stomp others. Yes those proto gear guys make a diffrence, but you can still kill them with militia gear if you know what your doing. Dont focus on what others are doing focus on what you want to do.
Eventually I cant imagin CCP not having a better match making system. If you want to quit than quit, if you want help, ask. If you want a corp to help you Join us. |

Look, after the first few million SP everything else is just icing. Don't think because vets have 10+ mil they are somehow untouchable. Chances are they're just good players who invest their time heavily into the game. SP isn't going to do much for their skill. |

Proto players are CCP's trick to save on A.I. This way level/map BOSSes are just more advanced players... Who have lots of spare time...
You could never achieve such gameplay level with A.I.
EDIT: You could be simply tired of the game and following forums. Best way is to take some time off. To get some rest and gather yourself together internally. The game will be here waiting for you. To entertain you again... |

This is the deal with F2P games. It is the way it has always been. People that start the game earlier will always get better stuff.
My advice is specialize. Don't do what I did (get mediocre stuff in classes).
Since your issue is getting pub stomped I would argue that spec-ing into assault is your best bet.
Wait to May 6th to re specialize |

Skillpoints and gear isn't everything. It mostly depends on how you play the game. I've gotten two dozen kills in a single match (top of my team) using only militia gear in a role I am familiar with, and I've also lost horribly despite my very advanced (read: expensive) gear in roles that I am not familiar with. |

Specializing is key in the beginning. I murder with militia gear, just because I specced into ARs and shield extenders and now gain the passive bonuses for those weapons. Although that might be changing with Uprising. So in uprising, stuff will be more balanced, no more OP passive skills like weaponry and sharpshooter. |

For every one of this guy posting here there's probably 10, 15, 20, or even 50 that are going to feel the same way on May 14th. There are some serious issues with the game that players are hoping that you sufficiently adjusted in uprising. Stuff that we, the beta testers know about, and stuff you choose to ignore. do to real live I go entire months with out even meeting my cap, I dont even think I have ever hit the cap this build to be honest. I can still compete and have a positive kdr. even without playing for entire weeks at a time I can still play this game and score kills.
You should be enjoying the game not playing catch up to people who will always be ahead of you. I have 4.5 mil sp and I can still own anyone on the battlefield and I cant even run full proto(got proto suit and gun though) If your so focused on catching up then you playing wrong, focus on improving personal skill and conversing sp for maximum payout. the first thing I did with my sp was dump all of it into my suit and gun then i focused on the secondary skills. I dont even have light weapons sharpshooter trained to any level and I can still compete and go 17/1 some rounds.
tl;dr your playing the game wrong, can I have your stuff? |

p q, you are posting in the wrong Forum.
Post for help in the Training Ground. A post here is just you being a QQ Kitten and yes, EVE players will enjoy watching you drown in them.
However, DUST is filled with players that will help. You have played since January. Which means you have at least 24K SP per day since then. State your problem areas in the Training Ground. Pick your worst area, find a chat room to get squad mates to run with. If you prefer to run Lone Wolf then state that.
Assume Jan 15 as a start. www.timeanddate.com calculates that as 108 days.
The minimum you have to work with is 2.6M SP. I have a test character for trying different items out that has 1.3M SP and that worked out reasonably well. His KD/R won't make a CoD player envious but there is 1.4M ISK in the bank. and KD/R is positive although I have to track in on pen and paper.
Ask for help. It is freely given.
Don't start a corp. Waste of SP and ISK, in my opinion. See, free of charge. |

Point to Cosgar.
I've said it before and I will say it again.
Vocal players on an actively abusive forum site do not represent the bread-and-butter playerbase of a game.
While the game should be hard, it should also not cater to the twitch shooter crowd who are here just for the teabagging. |

My recommendation to any frustrated new player is to join a corp (not start, join) than specializes in new players.
Dust University is one such corp.

Especially since they're going to ultimately quit once the new Black Ops or whatever shooter of the month comes out anyway. Other games don't cater to them, why should the one company that has HTFU as a slogan do so? Aside from the broken mechanics of Light Weapon Sharpshooter, this build just feels like a slowed down CoD where the SP and fittings are a placebo just to cater to the MMO crowd. |

I believe what the OP is saying is that he's not having fun. It's not a question of HTFU. It's literally not fun for this guy and he's going to eventually quit. I believe this is a legitimate complaint.
To fix this would bring in more cash for CCP: a good ranking system for pubs needs to be implemented or something similar. Ranking systems are all the rage, plus they make you feel cool, which is what these games are all about. |

I would wait for official launch before deciding to quit or not. A lot of new players will come to play and it should balance it out I guess. I am new player myself, I am getting owned but, I'll see how it goes after Uprising.

It's definitely the Sharpshooter skill...
The Sharpshooter skill has broken this game for a LOT of people. I was personally super close to quitting this game, after spending so much time going into sniper fit, just to get forced into tighter red zones with ARs with maxed sharpshooter.
Why snipe? Everything I played hard for and dumped skill points into was effectively rendered useless, and seeing nothing but complaints about snipers on forums from the then-new Open Beta Testers, started killing my hope for the game...
Now the Open Beta Testers aren't as ignorant as they used to be, and they see that the imbalance wasn't with the niche roles like Heavies, Snipers, and tanks. Many threads popped up over time asking for the AR/Assault role to be reviewed, which in turn sent developers on a hunt to really find the problem behind the problem.
*Sharpshooter* Sharpshooter skill absolute fked this game up for everyone. Not just niche roles, but for assaults too. Shotguns, HMGs, and full-auto ARs hitting at insane ranges. (Saw an assault glory-shooting his AR into the sky, and it made me laugh. He was literally shooting a perfectly straight pulsing orange line into the sky as far as the eye could see. Non-existent recoil.)
So don't lose hope, OP. Those "gods" aren't such hot **** when you play them on equal grounds... In fact, they lose. Over and over and over again. Play after Uprising comes, and decide what you will do then, OP; because you are at the most important point in Dust's history, the beginning. Just like in EVE, if you were in EVE from the beginning, you have distinct advantages. Being in Dust from the beginning, will indeed likewise give you distinct advantages. |
