I have a job, in real life, and I play 20 matches a week, but I'll never catch up to the guy who plays twice that much and spends cash for great gear. I love this game, but what do I do? I've been trying to play "catch up" since January. Spent real money, almost $30. Anybody I get to try Dust just quits. Maybe the biz model is to have guys who don't work for a living build up SP, buy great gear, and just win. How long can that last? Once it's just the elites, will they keep playing? Maybe? I've stuck around longer than any of my pals. Made a small corp and everything. If no changes are implemented, I fear that Dust will become... a joke in the Eve circle. "Remember Dust?" "I heard they still play..." CCP, this is your playerbase talking to you. For every one of this guy posting here there's probably 10, 15, 20, or even 50 that are going to feel the same way on May 14th. There are some serious issues with the game that players are hoping that you sufficiently adjusted in uprising. Stuff that we, the beta testers know about, and stuff you choose to ignore. If this game is going to be successful there needs to be a balance for skill and a perfect imbalance through proper counter mechanics. If you don't have that, Dust 514 is going to be just another generic twitch shooter fluffed with a spreadsheet that doesn't matter because a Duvolle can kill you in 1/6 of a second.
Point to Cosgar.
I've said it before and I will say it again.
Vocal players on an actively abusive forum site do not represent the bread-and-butter playerbase of a game.
While the game should be hard, it should also not cater to the twitch shooter crowd who are here just for the teabagging. |

My recommendation to any frustrated new player is to join a corp (not start, join) than specializes in new players.
Dust University is one such corp.
<- Bojo's is another. We're a bit Animal House, though. |
