I'm an old FPS vet. There are times when I think "this will be my last" I've seen everything a FPS vet can see. I met my wife on a FPS. RESISTANCE 2. She was with her friends and we were in coop. I remember her first cute voice and words when the chimera swarmed by the hundreds at us. "I just peed.." And I remembered what I told her "Don't fret lass. Your not alone." she laughed "Oh? then you protect me" "I won't leave your side" I promised her. 2 years and a child later, I haven't. heh..
Anyway, I mentioned here how dust lacks a fps core. a fps soul. I may have been wrong on that.. FPS soul is what drives a fps. What moves it. Almost like love moves a marriage. You can't have one with out the other.
Killzone 2 me and random players on a team. we keep trying to breach into this buliding, but the enemy is very dug in. So we start holding grenades and kamikaze, for the good of the team. To let those behind surge. then they did same. and we surged. we were shredding our k/d by doing this! yet we did it.. to win. We all in that team.. wanted nothing but to win.
MAG. The biggest cluster **** of people converged into one building. Valor vs sever. many curses shouted between the two teams. But I remember how we, all of us drowned them out with "VALOR!!" One loud chorus for the gods. Again we all wanted to win. One mind.
Battlefield bad company 2. hunkered in building with squad. I shouted to have building ripped. secure the the box by destroying it. But they didin't. cause we were inside. I yelled at them again, and finally they did. we had to stay cause we wanted to win.
DUST I was a medic. yes medic cause I capped out, so cheap fit. I revive this assualt class, and amazing he had sence to take cover. I protect him. cause I know they want him. After they realize that first clip is gone, they take cover. isn't that always the way? Anyway I've come to terms that I'm outnumbered and so dead. but look behind me I that guy I saved, running back to me, with 5 other blokes! I mean he was an idiot, for not healing himself, but they came back to help me. Heh.. And in that moment we all fought hard. we fought to win.
So maybe dust has a fps soul. maybe somewhere in their. |

I want to say cool story, bro. Not in the sarcastic sense, but literally. These are really cool stories and I'm sure there will be many more like this in Dust. |

That a lot of here (including myself) are hesitant in including dust as a bonified fps. yes, in part due to lack of fps mechanics, but that dust can't have EPIC matches to revival those of other shooters. But that may be not true. |

I've been burned hard by MAG, but while skeptical, I'll put a little faith in CCP, EVE started 10 years ago and is still being updated, that's dedication to their fans.
(Speaking of MAG, I noticed that the 3 BPOs for the Dropsuits are the Raven, the Sever (SVER), and the Valor. That can't be a coincidence can it?) |

That was a good story. Unfortunately Dust doesn't have an FPS soul. CCP has no experience with FPSs, and it's clear from closed beta much of the dev community had no ******* clue what makes a good FPS.
They're finally starting to get a clue, and I do have some hope that Uprising will turn Dust into an above average FPS. Right now it's mediocre, and I'm being generous.
I'm here for the potential of what it can become. |

If you ask me Dust is a real good FPS, not the standard one I giv you that, but as an EVE player I love the gameplay, the little numbers, the upcoming meta-game. Also some situations are just hilarious! Never laughed so hard during Killzone as long as I remember. (And I'm one hell of a Killzone fan!)
I've also read about others talking about the potential and yes there's a lot of potential. Just look at how EVE evolved and stood fast. I don't know of any MMO that lasted that long. Even WoW hasn't reach its 10-years anniversary. So my guess is the same will happen to Dust. I would love if I could play both of these games for another decade.

And this is why I've always loved EVE, and just the way CCP makes games. When you make a game that's completely open to manipulation by the players in this many ways, you see more of people than just an ugly colored helmet and mismatched gear running over and teabagging your corpse. |

I'm also a long time fps vet and I see a lot of promise in dust. Look at eve, I played on and off for years, knew if I ever really got in I would never leave. I watched it go through many stages. CCP has made many changes over the years, some frowned upon, but at least all the expansions are free and it seems to be changed for the better most of the time. Now we have Dust which is completely free, your choice to spend what you would on a sub and get Aur for better suits and gear for those very important matches. All in all I can only imagine where this game will be in 5 years, hopefully us dust bunnies will be taking titans and star ports to ransom :) |

I played SVER back when MAG was still a thing.
I remember charging out of a door so I could buy time for our repair guy to weld it back up.
Totally worth it. We ended up holding that point. |

At times I used to think this game had no soul but, I must say my opinion has changed lately.
I think it's us that are giving this game soul, even through all the negativity that I see on the forums when I log in and catch up with all the crew in my corp we seem to overcome all the gripes of the forums be it nerfs or OP weapons we stick together and find a way to make it work.
And without turning this into a recruitment advert, I would say until I joined my current corp I wasn't a fully dedicated team player don't get me wrong I worked well in a team but I wouldn't hurl myself to the wolves for them. However every time I see the guys pinned down or taking fire these days I wade in myself regardless of the chances, as a heavy it's my job to take and provide fire for the lads and I'll damn well do right by them. Some may criticise me for only having a forward gear but to me it's the guys and gals who matter not my kdr.
Only we can help give this game a real soul and I'm glad to see posts like this.
I'll see you out there,

The core of dust, like the core of EVE, will be and remain the sandbox. The intrigue, toppling empires, lifting your banner in there. Reading and hearing about alliances and corps that do. Names of players building up - not always for their prowess, but for what they represent.
Make cool stories and the sandbox becomes alive. Try to kill the sandbox and it grows stronger. |

This pretty much sums up why I play Logi. You have more interesting battles when you have more tools to help the team.
Holding the ability to turn the tide in a close ambush because your repping, rezzin, resupplying and laying the smack down with a duvolle holds more worth than being a lone wolf protobear.
On the QCQ match with the 'bowl' (Forgive my terribad map name memory) I normally have a blast doing the above, a few matches I can pretty much attest a win to me because ive saved 10-15 clones with rezzes and kept the ammo supply flowing for everyone to get kills.
The abilty to hold a AV squad up and keep them raining the pain down on a tank too keep it suppresed is another fun (If not suicial) role i love to play. Needs more AV squads though!. |

I don't know if this counts but I had a great moment today. Me and another guy spawned completely surrounded by the enemy team at the beginning of an ambush match. We got attacked by one guy, then two, then the enemies built up to a swarm. We eventually got overwhelmed and I knew it'd happen but it was still awesome working with a complete stranger and without comms, we just knew what we had to do, and we did fairly well. Basically it was like the end of Halo: Reach (at least in my mind), just with real people, so more awesome. |
