They nerfed the range drastically, so nope.

The real problem is when AR users don't understand that they don't win in every situation. They complain about shotguns killing them in CQC. They complain about snipers and lasers killing them at range.

This weapon was supposed to be jack of all trades master of none, it won't outdo a laser rifle in its niche, or a HMG in its niche (if hit detection isn't ruining the heavy user aim).
But they changed that, and now the AR we have now will be a close to close-medium range weapon with high damage.

Oh no. God forbid the AR will now be working as intended as a Short-medium range weapon!

Since CCP is making assault rifles for each of the empires, a rename to the AR would be fitting.
Instead of simply Gallente AR, it should be called Gallente Blaster Rifle.
So:
Gallente Blaster Rifle
Amarr Scrambler Rifle
Caldari Gauss Rifle
Minmatar Duct Tape Rifle.

Yes there is, but that's an old video and has no basis to confirm the Gauss Rifle is an AR-equivalent or that it's coming any time soon, and it's confirmed the Rail Rifle is in a valid position on the roadmap.

A gauss rifle uses rail gun technology... It's called a "Gauss rifle" for the type of magnetic field it uses to propel a farris slug down range
A rail gun works off the same principle.
The concept art for the gauss rifle was done when they released Templar one, if you watched the live stream of fan fest you would know that the same concept art was used for the gauss rifle that will be implemented in game

I want to keep the word rifle for the sake of symmetry, the other ones have rifle in their names as well (rail/gauss rifle, scrambler rifle, combat rifle).

Technically, we shouldn't even call them rifles.

Rifling a gun is something only the minmater would probably keep doing.

A rifle = a weapon with grooved barrel walls to add spin to a projectile.
Since our sniper "rifles" are actually rail guns (no rifling). We should call our sniper rifles "Precision Rail Guns".

"Plasma Repeater" while breaking uniformity, would technically be more accurate. lol
But who GAF?

Plasma blaster
Plasma Carbine
Plasma repeater
Assault Blaster
Machine Blaster

for the current AR.

Of course, I think if they just call the minmatar one "combat rifle", that would also be vague.
