Day/night cycles linked to a planets actual location/rotation would be partially on the team I am on and I can confirm it is NOT happening.

As for just regular day/night cycles in some kind of random fashion that I cannot answer as it would not be on our team.

Is this feature simply not coming for Uprising, or... not at all?

I imagine instead of trying to do something crazy complicated like giving every single planet its own day/night cycle based it a unique size and rate of rotation, you could simplify the process eve-side by simply making every planet rotate once every 24 hours like earth does.

As every planet would be at the same "starting" position as soon as the server goes up every morning, you then have a second "check" which looks at the hour of the day and the position of whatever district you are fighting in. Since every planet would have the same rate of rotation, it shouldn't be terribly difficult to create a system that is smart enough to know whether or not its the proper mood for the geography.

 Then again, Eve code. Ugh.

All of the planets in EVE do rotate... well almost all. All except temperate planets. When we introduced districts we had to stop the temperate planets from rotating. This is kind of why linking day/night to the planets actual rotation is maybe not the best of ideas right now, districts would be always day or always night. eh. We do want to fix it though.

Night sniping sounds too easy and tempting.
Big, bright red tags on those glowing golden clones against the evening sky is going to put snipers at a humongous advantage.

While I'm thinking about it: Will the Player Tags be the same size, or proportionate to distance?

Just how night-like is night actually going to be?

Is it going to be truly Alan Wake/Silent Hill dark where you may need a light source to see, or just a lame fuzzy purplish hue in the sky like in about every other video game ever made?

Until I read this post I just assumed that it was a "not yet" feature, but it sounds like a "we have no idea how to fix this yet!!" kind of problem.

Why, then, did we get this in an interview last month:

Quote:When Uprising hits on May 6th [...] players should also see things in a whole new light -- literally -- as day/night cycles will also be implemented to increase the sense of realism. And as for realism, Fannar noted that these cycles (along with the direction of the sun and the shadows) will be accurate to the actual rotation of the specific planet within EVE. http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/03/27/gdc-2013-dust-514s-uprising-update-conquers-your-ps3-on-may-6/
