In Eve truly massive and lethargic Null sec blocs dominate the main premise of whats makes EVE single shared universe interesting. In the Eye's of most the only time Dust interest and Eve interest coincide is during PI, a minor income source, for them. To them anything to do with Dust would be more like a pointless chore and their reaction wont be funding large ground battles on top of funding space battles, it would be denying fights and starving Dusties out of the only thing of real value, their fun. For them if it came down to buying more capitals or protecting PI interest they will concede planets and only after they have won or lost clean up the Dusties with no hope for space support for one side, not very enticing for us now is it. unless their is incentive for Null sec blocs to get involve then a major aspects of the EVE universe appeal will be cut off from the Dusty community.
I remember reading a dev post or maybe a blog that said they were considering to make it so, by controlling planets the side who controls the planets gets bonus in space. Now having played Eve that word, bonus, alone is the attention grabber. In eve the most important thing you can do is work with the metagame and squeeze every bonus you can get out of everything because you cant risk that other guy getting that bonus when you are already evenly matched. if controlling planets lead to bonus for EVE navies then they would start looking towards Mercs as a resource rather than an extra.
There is another aspect controlling planets can effect, that is whether or not station can be anchored and if they already are ending that anchored station. This is another thing that will make Null sec alliance treat mercs as a integral part of their war machine rather than a add-on to 10 years of space war. if you have to control a planet to anchor a station then that right there makes planets and therefore dust go from being a side element to a part of every day dealings. Another thing, if a district that the anchor corresponds to is flipped then a Station could potentially lose the ability to go into reinforced mode or even become unanchored after a period of time has passed. Imagine EVE blitzkriegs done with a combination of Boots and ships that something the EVE side might be interest in.
All this is only a suggestion and it only applies to null warfare. faction warfare would already have a natural place for dusties. |

This is assuming that the current incarnation of PI and any future incarnations of PI are exactly the same in terms of potential value for Null alliances.
If selling biomass, for example, is extraordinarily lucrative for Eve alliances and you need to control districts to produce biomass...alliances will want to control districts and therefore planets. To control planets they will need boots on the ground and that will require dealings with Merc Corps.
I like the idea that stations might live and die based on the control of the planet, too. Making stations vulnerable if the planet they are tethered to is not completely controlled would be a great way to force Eve players and Dust players into alliances of mutual defense or aggression. Dusties need orbital support for landing successful campaigns and Eve'ers need control of planetary districts for their stations to remain safest. |

If dust mercs could also somehow participate in space warfare via hijacking enemy ships or defense of ally ships via repair and defense. The defense of a ally titan or super capital ship with dust mercs would be a good investment. As i recall they started adding the interior to eve ships, which will be needed for boarding enemy ships. This feature thought is still a long way down the road, but i can see how mercs would become an important part of null sec.
This next idea may sound impossible(or difficult to implement) to do, but if mercs were given operation of turrets in side a titan for example. It could add a new way for mercs to interact with eve via defense of a titan from enemy drop pods or other very small objects/weapons.I'm not suggesting that dust mercs to be able to interfere with eve ships dps, but instead for countering the dust side of dps dealt to titans and super carriers.Having a feature like this could add on to the worth of dust 514 merc contracts that are based in null sec. |

If by adding interiors to ships you are referincing the video released by CCP on the FIRST OF APRIL you are either gullible or just not paying attention.
That being said omnomnoming a titan would be amusing... if just to know the rage the owner must be feeling as I pew pew his defenders and important systems... |

I posted a thread about helping out eve players by shooting with sky fire batteries. Would encentivist allying with dusties so they decide to shoot at the other guy instead of you. Just hope they do decent damage. Having this would help control systems by locking down planets and shooting anyone who got close |

I know there's a pretty big null sec alliance that has taken up a Dust corp but I can't remember the name.

If they want null blocks to care about DUST, maybe they should make us able to embargo their access to Moon Goo. I'm pretty sure that would cause them to care. |

I would really like to see more actions that Dust can take to really @$%@# over EVE players. Every time I read something its always that Dust players can share all this stuff and it helps EVE make money, but I haven't really read anywhere where Dust players can really mess you up. That Moon Goo embargo is just step one I think
What about being able to disable POS shields if you can Dust a whole planet? What about being able to fire constant citadel torpedoes from the ground at any assets in space? What about being able to stop ALL planetary assets being able to be farmed? What about being able to create a Cyno network for hostile ships to be able to jump into the system near the planet? Any place you have a district, you can tell what ships are in the system and know where they are (So you can report their cords to out of system gankers)
I think we need to see more troll mechanics added to make EVE people really care. Forget trying to make it something to invest in, how about something you want to invest against? To make sure you keep your planets so you dont die. |
