In Eve truly massive and lethargic Null sec blocs dominate the main premise of whats makes EVE single shared universe interesting. In the Eye's of most the only time Dust interest and Eve interest coincide is during PI, a minor income source, for them. To them anything to do with Dust would be more like a pointless chore and their reaction wont be funding large ground battles on top of funding space battles, it would be denying fights and starving Dusties out of the only thing of real value, their fun. For them if it came down to buying more capitals or protecting PI interest they will concede planets and only after they have won or lost clean up the Dusties with no hope for space support for one side, not very enticing for us now is it. unless their is incentive for Null sec blocs to get involve then a major aspects of the EVE universe appeal will be cut off from the Dusty community.
I remember reading a dev post or maybe a blog that said they were considering to make it so, by controlling planets the side who controls the planets gets bonus in space. Now having played Eve that word, bonus, alone is the attention grabber. In eve the most important thing you can do is work with the metagame and squeeze every bonus you can get out of everything because you cant risk that other guy getting that bonus when you are already evenly matched. if controlling planets lead to bonus for EVE navies then they would start looking towards Mercs as a resource rather than an extra.
There is another aspect controlling planets can effect, that is whether or not station can be anchored and if they already are ending that anchored station. This is another thing that will make Null sec alliance treat mercs as a integral part of their war machine rather than a add-on to 10 years of space war. if you have to control a planet to anchor a station then that right there makes planets and therefore dust go from being a side element to a part of every day dealings. Another thing, if a district that the anchor corresponds to is flipped then a Station could potentially lose the ability to go into reinforced mode or even become unanchored after a period of time has passed. Imagine EVE blitzkriegs done with a combination of Boots and ships that something the EVE side might be interest in.
All this is only a suggestion and it only applies to null warfare. faction warfare would already have a natural place for dusties. |
