If you think about it, it would seem likely to be half ambush, half skirmish. The attacking team would come in with their clones and other resources in their MCC and the ground forces have all of their resources there on the ground already.
So the ground forces would start off owning all NULL cannons and the attacking team would have to try to keep them hacked so they are not shooting their MCC, all the while trying to kill all of the defending clones in the district.
This would make much more sense as well as make defending your district easier than attacking it.
So how would you like to see PC battles set up? And how do you think they will be set up? |

I wasn't around for Skirmish 1.0 but the fact that it was attackers vs defenders would make it like a perfect fit for the Planetary Conquest battlegrounds. |

Good question, I would like to see a match begin with Orbital drops where the mercs have to take out anti air batteries so the MCC can descend and RDVs can be called. (Note tanks can be deployed via orbit) Then the attackers have to start hacking and taking out sites already owned by the Defenders. The attackers could orb drop anywhere except over shielded areas the defenders setup, so they can set their fields of fire up in advance. The attackers can get MASSIVE support from EVE and if something isn't shielded then it can be utterly devestated by orbital fire. So the attackers have to take out the shielded areas.
Then i'd like to see if the attackers destroy all the shielded areas and take out all the anti air batteries then the MCC can fire a bunker buster beam and break open an underground command center of the defenders and then the battle goes to ground as the attackers try to route the defenders out and take the last CRU deep underground.

[Edit]: How do I think they will be setup? Like Skirmish... That actually sounds pretty epic, I'd give it a go. Though... that would mean the AA and the aircraft protecting the MCC would both be obsolete each match after troops hit the ground, so they would have to be something that is available without SP investment to avoid players from making themselves useless after the first part of battle. Maybe make corps pay for upgrades for their aircraft if they want better ones.
And I agree, unfortunately I believe PC battles will look like skirmish... |

Wait, why are tanks the only vehicles that can be called in? The logic would be that dropships would be the only ones able to deploy in this case, and thats assuming the player spawns in them. and even then you would have to be careful due to AA |

It would really be cool to see CCP replicate something like the 200+ player battles in MAG...I know this is not the direction that we are going in, especially with only 16 players. However, when I think of planetary conquest, I envision a massive battle with waves of troops fighting for land, not a small battle held in varying districts. Maybe one day we will get something on a massive scale, quite like the battles in Eve, but until then we will have to settle with what we have. Whatever the case, I can't wait for PC it will be a nice change. |

Thats a good point about AA and dropships and shields. Maybe the AA is just heavy AA that shoots down MCCs.. and EVE ships . And then corps can put down smaller AA to fire at dropships. The shields possibly have kinetic resistance enhancers like the Immortals from Starcraft 2, they take full damage from tiny attacks but can only take so much damage before the shields overcharge.
So basically it prevents OBS and allows dropships in. But I would do away with WP and OBS, in this case with shield generators if the attackers call for a strike then "Light Em Up". Just have one guy sitting back calling strikes as fast as he can click. If its under a shield, great, if not, well bye.
(But how would defenders use EVE Ships) I'm glad you asked, if the Defender fleet arrives and kills the attacker fleet and the MCC is in high order, then they can just blow up the MCC. If the MCC descends then the fleet can start bombing it or they can start attacking targets illuminated by the defenders. |

THIS I would like to see PC become a real Siege mode, or alteast a siege mode put intot he game.
It's the only type of strategic, FPS, etc combat that Im any good at. Mmmm back in total war days....siege mode..... drools |
