I'm seeing too many nerf this nerf that threads.
I have to say in the majority of these threads the OP is saying how this ONE time I got killed by this weapon insanely quick. They don't remember the times when it didn't kill them insanely quick.
So I thought I'd put out a list of bullet points which for something to be overpowered would have to fall into all these category's.
- Is there a counter to it?
- Are a lot of people using it?
- Can a newberry pick it up and instantly become a god with it?
- Does it kill insanely quick?
- Has the person that's complaining about something being overpowered tried said weapon?
I'll add more if I feel the need to :P |

I know right? It's silly enough that on rare occasions I still see people posting threads about nerfing the Nova Knives by making their use require stamina when in fact a lot of people have been saying that the knife needs a buff. |

Ok then. I'll just beat you senseless with my melee. Is my melee OP now? |

Redline is OP.
C Saunders wrote:

Nope

Every Skirmish, every player spends some time in the redline.
- Can a newberry pick it up and instantly become a god with it?
It's equally effective in any (or even NO) hands.
- Does it kill insanely quick?
After "charging", it one-shots anything, including a tank
- Has the person that's complaining about something being overpowered tried said weapon?
I've tested the redline on many occasions
- Is it easy to use?
Just make the enemy step where you want
- Is it as effective without damage mods?
There are no redline damage mods. And as mentioned, it one-shots EVERYTHING without them
- Are you killed by it repeatedly every game?
I can be
- If it can only be obtained through salvage it's not overpowered.
Nope

yes, and your scout suit has too much HP as well, a light breeze should be enough to kill you let alone actually require someone to shoot at you. |

Is the AR overpowered? hmmm..let's see.
- Is there a counter to it? Laser rifles/snipers/anything with a longer range than the AR, maybe CQ weapons?
- Are a lot of people using it? Of course, because it doesn't have a lot of downsides.
- Can a newberry pick it up and instantly become a god with it? I have been killed in my protosuit with a militia AR more times than any other weapon, so I would assume so.
- Does it kill insanely quick? 30 damage per round, 750 rounds per minute, that's 375 dps if hit directly while standing still.
- Has the person that's complaining about something being overpowered tried said weapon? Of course. It's my primary weapon and I can admit that I feel overpowered using it.
- Is it easy to use? You don't even have to aim down the sights or anything to be effective with it. It has sniper precision from long distances too.
- Is it as effective without damage mods? Damage mods make kills take 1.2 seconds instead of 1.3
- Are you killed by it repeatedly every game? Just checked. over 50% of the kills in a match are from the AR. Second and Third place are from HMG and grenade kills respectively. Unless there's a tank or some guy with a laser rifle. My own deaths are from either grenades or ARs most of the time.
- If it can only be obtained through salvage it's not overpowered. I've only been in one match with some guy who had a Balac's. That guy is obviously putting up a lot of risk when he uses that gun, so I can respect being killed by him.

So the final answer is no, it's not overpowered because there is an effective counter. |

Protosuits are not always just the I win suit. You will occasionally get killed by a militia weapon. Have you ever seen a newberry go 15-0 with it?[/quote] I'm not a newberry but I have gone like 18-0 with militia AR Although it was mostly newberries on the other side |

I basically meant can a new player with no experience pick up this weapon and get a lot of easy kills with it. If they can, the weapon is overpowered. |

Any newb can pick up an MD and start launching rounds into a mass of men. Any newb can pick up a laser rifle and start killing with it. Any newb can pick up a shotgun, run up close to someone while dodging AR/sniper/FG rounds and one shot them. Any newb can pick up a sniper rifle and start sniping people. By that definition, MDs, LRs, shotguns and sniper rifles are OP.
ARs aren't OP. They're multi-use, which means that they outgun HMGs, SMGs and shotguns mid to long range, snipers mid to short range, lasers at short range, FGs at short and mid range (long, too, if you're smart) and pretty much every other weapon in a certain situation.
It's not as if ARs have no weak points. They're outmatched in certain situations, and you need to get assaults into the situation where you can take them out, instead of let them dictate the terms of engagement. |

yup, nerf the redline. i think i said somewhere to change the timer to 60 seconds. still stand by this for thoose redlining sniper rail tanks. yea i see 60 second might be a bit much for ccp to understand maybe just 30second then. need something to put the fear into thoose tanks using the redline as i never die tactic. OB yea right tanks can survive them so give me that each time to counter this. |

Basically, if you can dictate the terms of engagement, and you're using a weapon better-suited to those terms, you should win.
At point-blank, my Shotgun trumps almost everything. At not-point-blank, it doesn't. If the other guy has a better Shotgun, I'm still going to lose. |

Garrett, assuming you're both in the same suit, I can imagine the person to get the first shot off would win. Regardless of who had the better shotgun.
And my point exactly. Don't run up to a scout using a shotgun, don't charge a heavy, run up to a sniper, etc. Always dictate the terms to the best of your abilities. If someone manages to get the drop on you, well... That was just good play. |

If you're both aware of each other's position, the advantage of a better Shotgun is the range at which you one-shot the target, so unless one player has a positional advantage, the weapon (and related skills) means the difference between kill and die. |
