I suggest, like Eve, make dust passive SP only. This will completely end afk farming and also end all arguments about skill caps.
Additionally, a totally passive Dust will not impact the ability of new players to compete any more than the current system. Keep in mind, like Eve, once a player has a certain number of sp they can't get "better" they can only diversify.
If CCP should wish to ease the introduction to Dust for new players more than currently, they can simply add additional sp to the new player starting pool.
Switching to passive only sp gain would ensure that players only enter matches in order to play the game modes they like. |

Yeah I feel like that if the whole community always hit their caps, it would be no different than Passive SP, except there'd be a huge loss of time on the player's part. But Active SP keeps the community engaged and giving feedback.
The real focus should be on ISK. People complain about hitting SP caps but totally disregard the absence of an ISK cap. The community needs to get off this SP train and onto the ISK train. Eve is all about ISK. |

I like the idea of winning SP from a match, guess it's a bad costume from overall gaming. In any case I would increase the SP cap by 50% at least since I usually hit it in 4 days. I haven't played with my main since Saturday and won't be until Wednesday. To solve the AFK problem make a timer that kicks you from match after 5 minutes of being idle/being on MCC. |

How about staying in the MCC? Announcer gives some warnings like "GTFO and Fight!", if not you're kicked from the game. The redline still exists and you can simply stay behind cover and AFK. A solution to that is too remove the redline and hopefully a red dot kills you. I feel the redline is important though, so the solution is quite difficult to implement.

Exactly what I was thinking...I agree the removing of active SP would definitely remove AFKing, but at the same time it removes the satisfaction of gaining experience points after a match. I like seeing those numbers lol, especially when they're large.
How about the badges system that BF3 has? Active SP is gained from WP + challenges badges (ie. kill 5 guys in a match = 1000 SP, winning a match = 1000 SP). |

This is what all the afkers (who care about the game) want to see, but now the new player is penalized exponentially. They are behind in gear (through lack of sp) and behind on game knowledge and behind on opportunity to make sp because of the previous two deficits. At least with all passive SP gain, the new player gains sp at the same pace as everyone else instead of slower.
I like seeing the sp rewards too, but I'd give that up to have matches filled with players that actually want to play. |

I would honestly just not play, then come back in a month. I could grind for Isk, but I can grind for isk right now and I don't. That and our pay is nothing compared to an EVE players, so even that won't be worth it once players can transfer isk from EVE.
Just a rollover system would be good with me. I'd rather train for my skills myself then have to wait a week for a skill to train. |

That's why there should be challenges that are newbie-friendly, not just from getting killstreaks. Hacking 3 things, reviving 3 people, kill with a grenade, idk...things. Things that reward player action. Newbies will still be left behind by us veterans with an only passive SP gain system. It's the MMO aspect of the game. Creating servers for low SP players is a solution for that, but that goes to another discussion. |

Veterans, by shear knowledge of the game mechanics, are always going to outstrip new players in any merit based system.
Passive skill gain is the only equalizer.
On the other hand, if there was a decent match maker that allowed the new players to progress without contact with high sp players, this would work but only for quick matches like we currently have. |

This is like repairing one thing by breaking something else. I do not think it's a good idea; the four incentives to win or do well in a match currently are stats, salvage, ISK, and SP. SP is the only one that is clearly linked to your performance in the sense of how many WP you garnered = the more SP you gain. Stats are also very straightforward, but in every other competitive game and thusly not incredibly interesting. The ISK gains and salvage are very non-transparent in how they relate to your participation and performance. The SP are a good motivation to participate.
Now "passive SP only" is not a good solution to combat AFK farming of SP. In fact, it's a fallacy. You can still farm for ISK. People will still be able to sit AFK in the MCC, doing nothing, the latter being the actual issue. This fixes nothing, only takes away one of the incentives to play.
If you want to fix the people from doing nothing and sitting around in an MCC the entire match, make it so nobody can sit in the MCC indefinitely. After 30 seconds up there, you get dropped out right away. Or something like that. |

1) Because FPS players are used to being rewarded with progression after matches, not with currency or salvage. Having your talents not help your skill progression in a FPS game would turn away at least 80% of the FPS market before the end of day 1.
2) Because having a reason to sign in and work for a better character build means people will be on to play more. Passive just lets you pick it up after being off for 3 months and be just as well leveled as the guy who's been on every day for that 3 months.
AFK farming already has a fix in progress, CCP has already said they are working on solutions. Setting up a passive SP system would just **** off a lot of people and cause more issues than it solved. |

Passive SP only? are you guys nuts with only passive Sp u can get 582k sp in a month... u have to play years to get something good... just calculate some numbers before you post... u get 1sp for every 4.5 secs |

I have been saying this for almost a year. Passive SP is the way to go but the fps/cod mercs feel like they need instant rewards for everything as soon as they do it. It will pass in the next year when everyone has all the core skills leveled and true specialized training begins. These fps/cod mercs will just cry about something else. They do not grasp the idea that there is no end game, no level cap and the only thing that will matter in a years time will be knowledge of game mechanics and experience. They haven't even considered that all the districts will be different. They only know die - respawn - die - respawn and memorize the map. Tactics, team play and working towards a corporate goal or for a cause is foreign to them. |

If isk was a meaningful award they could probably do this, and I hope it gets to that point eventually.
Personally, I'm hoping that "matches" as we know them are merely a temporary thing until an open world architecture can be put together. In an open world when would they award SP? |

Is ISK really that much of an issue, in Dust? I can usually get a million in about 2-3 games if I decide to get out my Laser class. Slicing people never felt so good in a game |

Remove Active SP, Keep Passive SP, Give SP rewards based on WP and In battle Accomplishments. ie. killstreaks, kill # of vehicles, headshots, # of repairs, # of revives, Grenade killing etc... CCP desperately needs to reward behaviour, not presence. |

I think full friendly fire is the way to be. Sure, it'll cause some battlefield accidents, but it'll create a need to be more specialized and careful. Somebody won't leave the MCC? Shoot 'em. |

NO I find it really rewarding to place SP into skills and realizing that I need like 1000 SP for somthing I go in a match then I come back and I can learn the skill I was looking for.
To distrup the AFK farmers in MCC the "passive SP" of being in a mtach would stop when you dont trigger things like: -giving squad orders (to at least 2 squad mates?) or just make the commander position available.. -receive enemyfire -fire an enemy (sniper that would succesfully NOT receive enemy fire. -gain anny kind of WP (capture revive etc)
The basic idea would be that you have to do SOMTHING. it's easy to implement in the code something like LOG OF ACTIONS OF PLAYER X as nothing after 5 min = -1000 SP an kicked from the match. (P.S. no aplicable for let's say the first 2min of the match DURING BETA due to crashes etc..) |

Clearly it's better to be rewarded for just having an account. Grinding for 1 hour after the cap so you can upgrade a skill you really want is far funner then waiting 2 hours for your SP to build up. |
