Now that CCP has announced a War Council - Beta to help develop Dust's version of the CSM, I am curious who people think would likely be nominated.
The nominations are internal to CCP, so we have to guess at it from their perspective. I'm also not sure how many people they are going to pick.
The first names that jump to mind for me are:
Iron Wolf Saber Kain Spero Bojo the Mighty <- Of course. KalOfTheRathi Vermaak Doe Free Healing Maken Tosch
I'm sure I'm leaving out a ton of people, but that's what I could come up with off the top of my head. |

I'd go with Kagehoshi who gave good and constant feedback during the whole beta process. Garret Blacknova said good stuff as well. Nova knife, grideris for cast 514 stuff. and the list could be much much longer if i were too give it a good thought.
Let's not mix up player skill and corporation CEO with good CSM-like material please. That's a mistake well too often noticed. |

It is also worth noting that the the goals of the War Council will (should) influence who is chosen...
If they're looking for player feedback on Dust integration with EVE than the type of people they should look at are those who have experience playing EVE - Kain Spero, Gridboss and the like.
If they're looking for player feedback re: FPS mechanics, weapon balancing and vehicles than perhaps the search should focus on players like Proto & Regnum and those known to have vast experiences with FPS and know what they are talking about mroe than just pew pew.
In reality, I am sure they are looking for people with different "expertise" in a variety of areas across the game.
Edit: IWS is a safe bet though, assuming he wants it. |

Regardless of who is or isn't nominated (except Iron Wolf, 'cause, come on), I think this is a good indication that CCP is definitely interested in the growth of its community as well as its game. If nothing else, people should see this as a sign of good faith, and do what they can to start helping out those around them, or to keep on helping. |

TBH i can see this entire war council being a **** up
We will prob end up with a list of 10players of which maybe 3 are of use
A massive shotstorm will also go down if they happen to pick complete and utter retards and if bad ideas get into the game then we get to blame these ppl also

You would need to get Dusters Blog approval for that. As per them SyN is not even ranked or decent. I am pretty sure the CEO of a corp that is not even ranked or decent is not ok for such a post.

Thanks for the low blow, you missed.
For the record, I am not at all interested in this process / position. We all know there are much better people suited to these sorts of things. Besides, I love some of you so much I would probably get kicked out of a summit and never allowed back in Iceland.
I would support somebody from Goon or Test though, as they are going to have a much greater perspective on how to mess with some of you guys that I despise. I wonder how future votes will be swayed by popular demand vs calculated vote manipulation. Only time will tell.

Holy kitten I'm on a list
This is all very exciting, but I'd like to remind everyone that this is actually important; if you want to see DUST grow into basically the best FPS of our time that is. I myself am researching what exactly it is that the CSM does in EVE, as this is all quite new to me, but I imagine that it's quite the responsibility and not to be taken lightly.
From what I have heard, the CSM only recently gained what could be called a legitimate foothold in EVE, so one can only imagine that we have a very large climb ahead of us.
I feel that a strong focus will have to lay in PR and actually helping new players along. Right now, there really isn't any strong DUST presence as far as media goes, not that I've seen anyways. I imagine this is mainly due to us still being in Beta, so they want to wait for an "actual" release, but I feel that this is vital to getting us a strong influx of new players. More important than getting new players however, is keeping them here and enjoying the game.
Having easy to access virtual tutorials that walk you through all aspects of the game from the neocom to orbital bombardments, all in one easy to access place, will go a very long way to keeping people coming back for more. Also ensuring that in high security space, players are split more evenly based on pre made squads and total SP, to ensure a less violent entrance for our newberries (who will be more than welcome into Low and Null in the future, should they desire a taste of the good life) And lastly, for now, game types game types game types!!! Having more variety in gameplay will go long way towards holding peoples attention. |

But Vaerana you should cross diddly my name out, I apparently did not pass the test of CCP's love...so I win? I am interested to see who CCP thinks will be good candidates, as well as who their successors will be. I think it will be interesting if a low-profile person with solid commitment and logic gets added, because that will give them more exposure and also potentially bring stability and/or moderation to the table.
Ultimately for it to strike a balance, we will need creativity tempered with reality, blending Lore and Mechanics into one. Hopefully the first council isn't a cluster **** and builds a good reputation early, but for some reason I doubt that will happen. |

Just going to state now that I predict this process will simply descend into farce.
There was only one effective CSM ever.
CCP have changed that so that it won't happen again and they won't let your little Dust club house be *too* effective either.
Just an opinion based on many years of observation. |

Hi, everyone
I am representing Vacuum Cleaner LLC, a corporation from the Russian-speaking community.
I was just hoping that you, people, do not forget that there are other communities like ours and there are people who are making significant effort to bring new players into game and get some other important things done.
As for Russian-speaking community, I want to nominate dalt ud - https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=582653#post582653 (his recruitment post for VC LLC)
He helped to popularize dust514 outside of EVE community. Being a console FPS vet (battlefield series), he was (is) one the leaders of a worldwide top BF team Legend of Dragoons, he helped to bring several experienced and skilled console FPS players into game. And made several feedbacks and bug reports here, trying to contact devs.
He even participated and played one of major roles in a live stream organized by Kanobu network - popular Russian gaming social network. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wueWT9byos8
I hope this will be noticed and our vote counted.
Looking for future cooperation. deGoodMan,

What ever happens with the 'war council' we wont get a say and i believe that CCP may pick a few ppl not right for the job which will make it worse
If it was down to player voting at least i could deal with the wrong ppl on the council because it was down to a vote
Either way if it does go up **** creek we the playerbase lose out and the game does too |

I'm very eager to find out who made it onto the War Council, and over the coming months and years I hope to prove that I'm worthy enough to hold a seat on the Council as well. For right now though, I agree that there are much better candidates for the job, and I have a whole lot left to learn about this. |

There's a reason I only listed a few people, I've seen them contribute much longer and more often than you |

One of the primary tasks of the first "War Council" is to help CCP implement a system so that every council after them is elected by the playerbase.
Plus at this stage CCP is just short listing people. They're still going to interview them and do further investigation before they pick their final candidates. |

I'm... not sure why I'm on the list.
I mostly throw myself into the role of contrarian/devil's advocate where I can see a potential gap in the weave of someone's logic. Nothing I've contributed would be of any value without someone else creating the scenario into which I'm stepping. Even when I'm creating threads, they're usually spinning off from someone else's suggestion in another thread that put my mind onto a slightly different track from the main topic.
If CCP did approach me (and they haven't), I'd probably go with it, because I think it would be pretty cool, and because I think I'd probably be capable of living up to the responsibilities of such a position, but I'd be more surprised at them approaching me than I am to see my name on here.
Especially after that stupid birthday stunt I pulled a few hours ago. That was so unprofessional. |

Happy Birthday! CCP should invite just because you're turning old and grey now. |

To be honest, Vaerana should be in the Council Beta because of the firm grasp on integrating Eve and Dust. |

The War Council needs people who can pick apart CCP's ideas and plans and analyse every tiny detail until it works. Not everyone has to have great amazing ideas all the time - some analytical thinkers are needed to make sure the creative thinkers are coming up with good/workable/sensible proposals.
Like I said previously (possibly in another thread somewhere), the council should be partially appointed and partially elected. The appointed people are chosen for their knowledge, expertise and experience. The elected are representatives of the entire player community. The two sides work together with either having a veto over any proposals (like the UK Houses of Lords and Commons). The elected representatives can bring ideas and concerns/opinions from the community and the appointed guys analyse and feedback on these ideas whether they are plausible or what could be done to make them work better.
I for one am disappointed and surprised you weren't shortlisted. |

Well, we got a few of them... Of course, we had a lot of false positives, too.
