Whenever I play this broken game I get pinned down by snipers... And there is nothing I can do to kill those filthy snipers!!! I was in a match today and I would spawn, run, get sniped. It was like that the whole match. I did not have a sniper class, so I was useless and could not get kills.
I believe the sniper is the most OP gun in the game, because there is not enough ways to counter it. I think ccp should add riot shields so I can take on those snipers! Also maybe a camera guided rocket launcher. maybe ccp should also add something that we can use to detect when a sniper is aiming at us.
Thank you for reading. |

Snippers usually can't watch their backs. So if you are able to sneak up on them with any weapon, they're as good as dead. If they're redlining and you can't, it's an entirely different matter. Call out their positions to friendly snipers to take them out. Or spawn in using a starter fit Snipper and try killing them. Snippers are only useful in their niche role of long range killing, usually only on slow or nonmoving targets. Sprint, zig zag, bunny hop, and you should be fine. |

"Some" ARs, Laser rifles. Rail guns, forge guns, or a sniper. Don't run in a straight line. Use cover.
Stop spawning on CRUs and Drop Uplinks that are camped.
Use the free LAVs to get up close.
They're EZ, mass drivers and ARs are the real threat |

Just like in dealing with an HAV there are many ways to go about it, but none of them are any fun. Do I really want to take a two-minute detour from the role I intentionally specialized into to get rid of that annoying pest on the other side of the map? |

But since this is a game I tend to complain on the forum instead, because that's much more fun than zig-zagging across the map for the duration of a skirmish. |

I've been thinking about this as well, and I believe that this would actually benefit both parties.
My reasoning is this:
Sniper Rifles have the abitity to "light up" enemy forces that they see at extreme range. They also have the ability to analyze the Dropsuit capabilities of any Merc in their crosshairs, with much higher effeciency than anything else in the game. This tells me that (from a lore point of view) that Sniper Rifles send out a signal to their targets, and receive information back regarding range to target, efficiency of possible damage done to target, Suit Type, and Shield and Armor remaining on target.
This signal could easily be translated into a sound that would alert Mercs that they are being targeted by something (and you could easily put that on to Turrets as well, not just Sniper Rifles). This sound would be the interference pattern created by the signal being sent out by the Sniper Rifle, and the Suits own internal sensor array. This would also allow Snipers to potentially hold a point, as well as intimidate opposing forces, without having to fire a single shot. Just knowing that a Sniper is out there aiming at you would be enough to deter some (but by no means, all) Mercs from advancing.
Having the "alert" be a sound as opposed to say, a laser pointer, would still allow the Sniper to use stealth and terrain to hide their position, but still let Mercs know when an area is a potential threat. Letting the sound grow in intensity as you turn would let targeted Mercs know the direction the sniper is (without giving away his exact position), but would only work when being "painted" by the Sniper. This would give "painted" Mercs a chance at countering while still not alleviating the danger presented by the Sniper in the first place. |

I don't think think you've provided enough evidence for this assumption.
The same information is provided to every player. Seems more likely to be to be a form of passive scanning.
Seeing as you're approaching this from a lore POV, why would anyone build a military suit specifically for a stealth class which gave itself away by actively probing its target?

Wouldn't work very effectively, unless you spend a lot of the game standing still. Most snipers lead their targets so by the time you would hear the sound you're already dead.

Let's see if I can put this plainly... the counter to snipers... is everything. Everything can outclass a sniper rifle in a certain circumstance. If you can't stop the sniper, it's because you haven't learned how to, not because it isn't possible. |

The point of this thread was not to say "NERF DEM SNIPERS!" i was just trying to put out ideas for ways to avoid getting sniped. The most frusteating thing in this game is when you get sniped. There is no warning, and you die in 1 to 2 shots. I think it would work great to have a riot shield in this game plus a skill that allows us to receive alerts about snipers. Or like in cod your character yells "SNIPER GET DOWN!" it would be cool if your merc would say that. Or just something like a flashing red light on your HUD that tells you when a sniper is aiming at you.
A camera guided middle launcher would also be cool plus it would be a great counter.... If it's not too OP.
Btw if you judge me since I mentioned cod, you are a stupid idoit. I don't even like cod.

You can easily counter snipers so many ways, communicate that is the point. The sniper if he is not killing you will inform them of your suit as well. |

Wrong.
The most frustrating thing in this game is dying without a fighting chance. Regardless of what role you're trying to play. |

I must admit I thought you were trolling... but apparently you are not Or are you... hmm...
Anyway, there is ample warning: you are in the middle of a war zone, people will try to kill you! Large open areas are bad, mkay?
Snipers are as much part of the game as any other class/weapon. And just like any other class/weapon they have their strengths and weaknesses. Sure, getting the back of your head blown off when you're happily galloping across the battlefield isn't exactly fun... but when is dying ever "fun" in and of itself? The "fun" part is trying to prevent dying to the myriad of dangers around you, while killing others and reaching objectives. Learn the dangers and how to counter them.
Asking for a warning when a sniper targets you (and also a shield to hide behind) is nonsense. Snipers would become useless... |
