I apologize but I don't know the map name. It was a 5 point map with low walls and ABC inside the walls. alpha indoors, bravo indoors, charlie exposed outside. CRU near Bravo, Supply depot near Alpha.
Anyway me and 2 squadmates were inside Alpha about to hack when an orbital came down. We were in the center of the room about and were all 3 wiped out immediately. We were not near entryways and I was near the objective panel when I died, we died in an early part of the volley.
Only thing I could say is the roof is closer to us then in other maps where there are things high in the air able to block orbital rounds.
Not sure if this is known or intended, did a cursory forum search and came up with nothing. |

yeah, there's a problem with orbital targeting. . . if there were guys on the roof, they'd not be killed. i think it has to do with how the damage effects are based on a heightmap oriented to the ground instead of the physical rounds descending and doing damage. . . this is highly related to the hitscan targeting system Dust uses (instead off projectile) similar in issue with the hit detection on dropsuits & counter-sniping from below.
these issues will be around for the foreseeable future, until they spend considerable time on it, or completely recreate their combat system. unless either is in the works, expect a fix at least 4-6 months out |

James your explanation doesn't quite make sense. I can understand what your saying but we are able to walk on roofs which means something is aware of a floor and uplinks/nanohives will register as well. Furthermore your explanation would have some inherit flaws in that the tabletop would face the same issue I believe, as well as your explanation implies I can just grab an HMG and shoot through that ceiling. Also I don't see that issue as being present on other maps that involve vertical cover and protect people from incoming fire. |

What he's saying is that an orbital's damage is centered around a point on the ground at the 0 height level, not around where one might expect the orbital to hit, such as a roof. It is most definitely a bug. I used to take advantage of this fact by parking a dropship on a building and letting people try to orbital me. The beams would go right through me without causing any harm and explode on the ground a hundred meters or so below. |
