Lets look at the times for this Friday's event:
14:00 GMT is 9:00 Eastern Time (i.e. Toronto, New York) and 6:00 Pacific (i.e. LA, SanFran, Vancouver) 22:00 GMT is 17:00 Eastern time, and 14:00 Pacific time.
Once again, you guys run an event that pretty much screws any working person in the Americas, preventing them from participating.
Seriously, WTF?!?!?!
And to make matters worse, you're giving something away for participating!
Why not do one of the following:
1 - Make it a 24h event, giving DUST players around the world an equal opportunity to join in? 2 - Keep the same time, but PUT THE EVENT ON SATURDAY..... one day later?
This is the 3rd or 4th event that you've run that has completely been unplayable for Americas-region players. I have a full-time job, and I've actually been buying AUR to keep my boosters fired up. I represent that revenue that you hope to realize through Dust 514.
Why do you keep screwing your North American audience? |

This is exactly why he suggests to make this a 24-hour event, doesn't he? The way I see it, making events like this last only for several hours will cut off part of the entire population, since those who work during the day won't play, as well as those on the opposite part of the world that sleep during the event time. |

I specified AMERICAS... not the USA (being Canadian myself, specifying USA wouldn't be my #1 go to).
And the Americas is way more than just Canada and the USA.... all of Central and South America share the same timezone as North America, and are equally excluded from the event.

As I understand it the current limitations on battle instantiation mean that a staff member has to sit there and personally load a new battle as each one ends. Obviously this is not ideal and leads to very short events.
I agree that US people should be given a fair crack at these events. If it's not possible to hold the events for 24 consecutive hours they should at least consider holding events over several days with the time bracket shifting daily to accommodate different timezones.
They should also hold future events which offer people an opportunity to get any gear they missed out on, at least if that gear was given out for an event where one or more timezones was clearly disadvantaged. |

The servers for that (Singapore???) game show last week were up for 2-3 days, regardless of timezone. Why can't this event server be up in the same manner... with a counter or stats-aggregation program running server-side to count who wins the most matches and/or gets the most kills. |

This event doesn't give out heavy suits, so not really targeted at the us audience.
Also, seems like there's enough time for most of the US to get in on the first battles in the morning. |

I have to agree that these times are not even close to great for any working person in North or South America. That's 2 Continents excluded from the event. Every other region has a chance to participate at a decent time EXCEPT for the America's. And as was stated, to make matters worse, they are giving away event items.
This happened with the Beta Tournament as well. When it was a "Best of 3" tournament, America couldn't even play on Friday whcih would have been auto forfeight for many Corps due to the fact that the time was when we are all at work / school. had to beg for it to be moved to Saturday, of which was done only cause of a large thread and begging and pleading due to an entire region having to forfeight.
We understand that certain things will happen at certain times and it just works that way. You had to be playing at XYZ time to be there. We get that. But to always do stuff at a time when you know an entire region will never have a chance to participate due to Work / School / Sleep, so they are never given a chance to be in those events is just perplexing.
So yeah, I agree, why couldn't it be moved 1 day, then everyone would have a chance to play or make it 24 hrs. |

I know what your saying I play Madden 13 and promos, collections etc don't usually drop till 11pm GMT so it works both ways. Shouldn't be on a Saturday as some people work weekends like myself but I definitely agree it should be a 24 hour event. |

But i do agree with the OP, would be nice to just have the event 24 hr. Simple fix for everyone around the world to have a chance at an exclusive giveaway. |

I live in New Zealand. GMT +12, currently on Daylight Savings Time, making us GMT +13.
14:00 GMT is 01:00 here. 1am.
I'm nocturnal, so for me, this is GREAT. For the rest of the country, and Australia at GMT +10, not so much.
Even though this isn't an issue that's hitting me hard, +1 to the OP, and +1 to the explanation of why it was "Americas" and not "America". |

Contracts end at 22:00 GMT = 8:00 AM ON SATURDAY which still isn't bad since you know the event is coming and can plan for it - can even stay up late if you want since it's SATURDAY
For America, the event starts on Friday, Ends on Friday and is in the middle of the day. So not even a fighting chance |

Even 1 AM isn't so bad.... 1 AM on Saturday or Sunday morning is workable....just log in, play one match, and go to bed. But yeah, wanting to participate in the lore (beyond just getting the suit), 1am is kinda crappy.
I've been an EVE player on and off since 2005 ("Paddlefoot Aeon" and "Nightbird"), and I've seen the vast majority of live events and cool in-game stuff centered around GMT and Euro time zones. So this "Americas word-day" problem isn't isolated to Dust... just I wish that they would have figured it out by now! |

They can't do a 24 hour event, because they literally have one person continually creating the games in the Mercenary game section. It's not automatic, they need to do it manually. This is the same reason you won't see a live event over the weekend. No one is going to want to come in on a Saturday and spend 5 hours manually creating new games for a spoiled gamer audience. (Read: yourselves.)
I am sure that in the future, once they have a system that can auto-create the battles, we will start to see more flexibility with the schedule, with events either happening over the weekend, or during longer working hours over the course of a weekday. This will also allow us to do things like choose which team we want to support in a Live Event battle, and so on. |

So, in this modern age that has us playing a console shooter that is linked to a PC space-sandbox, connecting to players all around the world... they have to have a guy manually creating games.
Sort of defeats the purpose of the whole "automated computer thingy" idea, no?
And I am SOOOO SORRY for being a spoiled gamer, looking to participate in content that has ALREADY BEEN CREATED for a game that I've actually put time into (closed) beta testing and spent real money on for Merc Packs and AUR top-ups for skill boosters... content that others in the game will be using and enjoying.
Yeah, that's right: I'm a selfish, entitled, spoiled prick.

Yes, you hit the point on the head. DUST is an impressive game, but it is still in Beta, so there will be kinks. Right now, one of those is that someone has to sit at a computer and manually create games. It sucks, but that's the reality at the moment. CCP Eterne has already posted acknowledging the difficulties and saying that in the future they will try and run the events so that more people can participate.
And I'm glad you agree with my opinion of you |
