They can't do a 24 hour event, because they literally have one person continually creating the games in the Mercenary game section. It's not automatic, they need to do it manually. This is the same reason you won't see a live event over the weekend. No one is going to want to come in on a Saturday and spend 5 hours manually creating new games for a spoiled gamer audience. (Read: yourselves.)
I am sure that in the future, once they have a system that can auto-create the battles, we will start to see more flexibility with the schedule, with events either happening over the weekend, or during longer working hours over the course of a weekday. This will also allow us to do things like choose which team we want to support in a Live Event battle, and so on. |

This will also allow us to do things like choose which team we want to support in a Live Event battle, and so on. So, in this modern age that has us playing a console shooter that is linked to a PC space-sandbox, connecting to players all around the world... they have to have a guy manually creating games. Sort of defeats the purpose of the whole "automated computer thingy" idea, no? And I am SOOOO SORRY for being a spoiled gamer, looking to participate in content that has ALREADY BEEN CREATED for a game that I've actually put time into (closed) beta testing and spent real money on for Merc Packs and AUR top-ups for skill boosters... content that others in the game will be using and enjoying. Yeah, that's right: I'm a selfish, entitled, spoiled prick.
Yes, you hit the point on the head. DUST is an impressive game, but it is still in Beta, so there will be kinks. Right now, one of those is that someone has to sit at a computer and manually create games. It sucks, but that's the reality at the moment. CCP Eterne has already posted acknowledging the difficulties and saying that in the future they will try and run the events so that more people can participate.
And I'm glad you agree with my opinion of you |

I too am starting to get annoyed at being shut out from these events just because I live in USA, have a job and don't have to ask my parents for money to spend on AUR...
Is there any reason this event needs hands on oversight from the European offices of CCP? Do they need to individually hand craft each mercenary battle?
It would be really nice if they could just set some up and let them run over a 24 hour time period.
Yes, the DUST Devs need to hand-load every battle manually, because they do not have a system in place to do it automatically. This is slightly different than EVE, where Live Events happen within the sandbox and not over the course of a number of PVP matches. So technically, DUST Live Events could run for longer, once a system is in place to allow that to happen. CCP Eterne has already said as much in another thread, as well as promising that future Live Events will be more inclusive to a global audience.
But as for right now, DUST Live Events are limited by the resources that the Beta has, which means that at the moment the best the Devs can do is manually start every mercenary battle within a normal work day. In fact, they're actually staying after for several hours after the work day to increase the Live Event Window (10:00 p.m is when the event ends) so we can see that they are indeed trying to give as many people a chance as possible. |

Yeah, he said this in the first Live Event thread, when people were complaining that the Americas were excluded. That was 3-4 events ago. Still waiting for some action on this.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.
CCP Eterne wrote:The spread of times is basically as much as we are capable of doing now for manpower reasons until we get better tools to run the events.
However, we're aware not everyone WILL be able to participate so we're looking at options to expand the ability of people to get limited time items.
This is a quote from here, and was posted earlier today. |
