Having a heated discussion with a colleague at work. He believes Logi should be shield tanks, I favour armour.

I go with it all 2x shield extenders, 1x armour plate and 1x armour repper. I have found that unlike Eve, mixed tanking works. |

Its one of the ones that can go either wqay depending on what other mods and restrictions you are planning on running with.
If speed is a factor then shields are a must
If damage mods are a must then the result will be armor
Its the jack of all trades suit, it can do almost anything |

Neither.
Low: Stamina, Armor Rep.
High: Damage +10, Shield Regen Boost.
When you spend time backing a Heavy you realize that 22hp shield increase is just past the damage One HMG round can do. getting your shields back fast is important however.
A good AR with a 60 round clip that you always Aim (L1) at their Head is more important, a grenade you like and Three Equip Slots.
Circuitry lvl 5, Combat Engineering lvl 5. When those are combined means one will rarely lose a Low Slot to CPU/PG Enhancers. And Weaponry lvl 5 means a +10 damage is actually +20.
Experiment. Tune it to your play style. Make a profit. Don't spend a fortune for Public Matches. |

Like everything, it depends on what you want to do, your gun game, what weapon you have etc.
Shields are more about the hit and run. Especially when you can get a good recharge rate. A completely legitimate option would be an extender, recharger, and 2 regulators in the lows. You would then get a bigger shield than a base scout suit, a nearly equal recharge rate, be a little slower than the scout, but also be able to carry the equipment. If you are more of a solo/battle logi, and your weapon is a mid range/short range type of weapon you want shield.
If you run more in a squad, and speed isn't the factor for your survival, then you want armor. I know as a logi, most of my deaths have come because I can't keep up with my squad (or they run ahead of me too quickly). Armor is more of a defensive weapon, but it is 20% better against everyone's AR than shield too.
Also you should think about what else you can put in those other slots. Logis really have the PG/CPU to do nearly anything with 30% more PG/CPU than assault. This means that you could probably fit on a Logistics II, anything that could go on a Assault A. This is only fair since you are spending SP on so many other things anyway.
You could be the defender that actually has the precision skills to pick up those sneaky/stealthy shotgun, or you may want your high slots for damage mods for AV. If you are a triage/medic, you want to be able to get to your friend on time to heal them, but also be able to take fire.
When I'm running in a squad with a heavy I have 2 extenders, a plate, and a repairer and my MD. The slow speed is okay because I match the heavy, and the MD means I can be deadly around cover.
When I'm running with more of an assault squad I have 1 extender, 1 recharger, and am messing around with targetting extenders, but often I have regulators and my shotgun. Not having the sidearm takes getting used to though.
Bottom line is that you are the MOST EFFECTIVE support class. Don't think most in terms of deadliness, but about how the way you are supporting is most optimized. Frontline supply/medic is different than base/defense triage is different then AV area denial (minelayer) is different than vehicle/installation technician. |

Even I, as much as I love playing as a logibro, have specialised in another area.
Personally, this was piloting. I shield tanked my Myron, so I put SP into shield control. Increases maximum shields, so I capitalise on this by shield tanking my logi too.
If you don't have an alternate role you can base types of tanking on, base it on your weapon.
Assault rifle or shotgun would generally want more shields, since you want them back up ASAP. Mass drivers would want shields too, so catching yourself in the impact won't be too distressing. Laser rifles, since you're most likely going to be countered by other lasers, would spec. into armour to negate extra laser damage to shields, with repairers to shake off those pesky snipers.
That's how I look at it. :D

Forgot to mention that logibros supposedly have the best hacking skills as well. It isn't a stat listed on dropsuits anywhere, and I plan on testing it soon, but lowslots dedicated to hacking can mean flipping an objective in under 5 seconds or 2x as fast or so as other players. |

I've tested this qualitatively. My logistics fits definitely hack noticeably faster that my scout fits. I don't run any codebreakers in any fits, nor do I have the hacking skill upgrade (not that it would matter as that bonus should apply to both suits, but still....) |

I go both with my logi type 1 fit, at the expense of speed and codebreakers (but I have hacking at level 2 anyway). In my type 2 fit, though, I only shield tank for space for a codebreaker and cardiac regulator, at the expense of general survivability, but I can do this because I use a TAR for that fit. If your suit focuses on mobility and versatility, only tank shields. Otherwise, tank both armor and shields. If you're going to dual-tank, though, I recommend the type 1 logi for that, since you can make up for the versatility lost in armor tanking by carrying more equipment. |

I dual tank most of my Type-I fits, shield tank my speedy Type-II fit and armor tank my A-Series and better. The Logistics foot soldier is about flexibility in a single suit line. |

As for shields I was pretty disappointed with the complex shields in my type a suits, haven't lvled armor as much as I would like but I'm sure they help....... whether or not they are cost effective is another matter, but I guess we gots to fill all those slots with something. |
