Are we ever going to see our units being able to sprint at an angle? this game is now in open beta and im still running like a locomotive on a track. if this is a design choice can we at least get an explanation? seriously. the original doom you could run at an angle what the hell is going on?

you can run at angles on Dust but sprinting is a more complex action, look at the drop suits, dont you think it would b awkward 2 sprint in any angle but straight ahead? plus is there any FPS that allows sprinting at any angle but straight ahead?

Same with people who want to sprint while reloading.
It's impossible, even for our mercs. It's unrealistic enough to be able to reload while running

Are you speaking on behalf of the developers? could you show me a quote where this is actually why... futuristic space combat suits that can jump 10 feet high and have on board inertia dampeners but cant turn their heads while sprinting. seriously, when your running at an angle it because the game is simulating your character is sprinting whilst looking in a direction. its a fluidity of movement issue that preventing has less to do with realism and more with technical problems i would assume.

sprinting while reloading is completely different in regards to unbalancing the game than simply being able to look at a 45-¦ angle while moving from point A to point B. you have no real argument..

How would you work in a control to move the head and only the head, because at the minute and this applies to pretty much all FPS's when you move the right stick it simulates your entire upper body moving.

you're sprinting straight, your head would be looking left at the 45 degree. of course everyone knows this is possible. but in games like fps it is simulated to give the player a sense of immersion. they're allowed to sprint slightly at an angle and if they see an enemy off to the side they would naturally have a chance to react. just as if the enemy was on the right or slightly to the front right of where the player was sprinting the enemy would have a chance to react first. its just a level of depth that most people understand some people need explanations and that's fine too.

. . . Well the point is that you can't sprint at an angle. You can jog, and it will look stupid, but not a full on sprint.

Sloth9230 wrote:. . . Well the point is that you can't sprint at an angle. You can jog, and it will look stupid, but not a full on sprint. We're really talking about two different things here: 1) Looking off-axis while sprinting and 2) Sprinting(or jogging, moving faster than a walk at any rate) at some angle to the Direction you're facing.

 It's really two separate conversations.

I can imagine situations where both could be useful - I know there's lots of times when i'm sprinting between cover where i would have liked to be able to scan side to side a little to avoid the deathtaxis. And there's other times when it would have been nice to be able to jog at an angle to the direction i was shooting in order to track a fast-moving target - by adjusting your angle you could adjust your tracking speed.

Both are things we can all do IRL, there shouldn't be any argument about that.

The jogging obliquely part seems easy, L3 and leftstick position - the greater the angle of travel to the angle your body is facing the lower your sprint speed, until at 90-¦ you're walking speed. Maybe rolloff speed as the square of the cosine.

The looking part maybe when you're sprinting R3 then acts as the 'look off axis' toggle.

Maybe something worth asking the devs for once core mechanics are solid.
