Are we ever going to see our units being able to sprint at an angle? this game is now in open beta and im still running like a locomotive on a track. if this is a design choice can we at least get an explanation? seriously. the original doom you could run at an angle what the hell is going on? |

Are you speaking on behalf of the developers? could you show me a quote where this is actually why... futuristic space combat suits that can jump 10 feet high and have on board inertia dampeners but cant turn their heads while sprinting. seriously, when your running at an angle it because the game is simulating your character is sprinting whilst looking in a direction. its a fluidity of movement issue that preventing has less to do with realism and more with technical problems i would assume.

Same with people who want to sprint while reloading. It's impossible, even for our mercs. It's unrealistic enough to be able to reload while running
sprinting while reloading is completely different in regards to unbalancing the game than simply being able to look at a 45-¦ angle while moving from point A to point B. you have no real argument.. |

Tell me: how is sprinting at a 45 degree angle physically possible?
you're sprinting straight, your head would be looking left at the 45 degree. of course everyone knows this is possible. but in games like fps it is simulated to give the player a sense of immersion. they're allowed to sprint slightly at an angle and if they see an enemy off to the side they would naturally have a chance to react. just as if the enemy was on the right or slightly to the front right of where the player was sprinting the enemy would have a chance to react first. its just a level of depth that most people understand some people need explanations and that's fine too. |

i really don't see the logic in this.. besides the advantage that KB/M users already have over pad users how would this change anything? could you elaborate?

if the people "good at strafing"(kb/m?) could sprint at an oblique angle how would that overpower how well they strafe shoot already? (seeing how its impossible to shoot and sprint at the same time?) are you talking about people who would shoot, sprint at an angle, shoot.. like that? that's not really strafing. that's something different all together. also not exclusive to kb/m players and as easily executed by a skilled pad user.
Vrain Matari wrote:For example, imagine if we could press R3 and strafe side-to-side at the same speed we can run - some peeps have put a lot of practice into this technique and so they would become very hard to hit while still being able to hit you.
this is where i think a lot of people misunderstand me. I never once said sprint sideways i don't know where you guys are getting this from. if your sprinting at full speed you would never **** your head all the way to the side, chin to shoulder. you would most def trip and fall and look like an idiot in the process. the field of view in dust especially when your sprinting gives me a tunnel feeling if not the whole game in general. it seems logical that you (as the merc) could scan (now stay with me here) a 90 degree angle. directly in front being the 45 degree mark in the middle while running in a STRAIGHT line SIMULATED by the game allowing the player model to run at a 45 angle adjacent to dead center either left or right of the players fov. that's all. anyone viewing this from a third person perspective would see a player animation running straight wherever his left control stick is pointed - once he exits the sprint the player animation snaps back to reflect his fov or better yet a fast little sync up animation.
Vrain Matari wrote:It completely changes the dynamics of the game because suddenly using cover is not important anymore - good strafers can stand out in the middle of an open field and still mow down 5 guys.
last time i checked dust wasn't supposed to be fair (thats what people keep saying anyway) and i agree heavies roll around like big behemoths mass murdering newbies going 22-3. shield tanking assaults mowing down logis and scouts that peek at the wrong time. it doesn't matter what you do to the game. pros gonna pro. what i'm talking about is making the act of moving around the battlefield more cerebral and less jarring for everybody. so they stay. and we all have a good time |
