I was wondering if anyone has actually tried to make LAVs, beyond the cardboard militia variant, viable as weapon platform.
Or even taken the militia version and added standard modules to it.
I feel sorry for the poor LAV, its an over used deathtrap and seems to be universally crap. It also does that weird drift thing when you try to drive it.
What's everyones thoughts and opinions on LAVs.
Personally I think they are crap. But I really like them and want them to be useful .
They always give me laugh out loud moments: for example recently I watched an nme LAV catch big air and do a 360 when it tried to run me over. |

Well, i use it sparingly but i fitted a Baloch in such way that it survived a tank's railgun shots. I'm pretty sure it hit me dead on and it happened a few times during that match. It was an unventful match, the other team just didn't do anything at all, we capped all objectives and the enemy just hid the rest of the time. Except they had a guy in a tank, and an experienced one no less, but he realized the game was lost and kept himself out of trouble. Mid-game i thought of taking my special LAV for a spin and the tank took my shields and 2/3 of my armor with one shot but i was able to repair and be shot again at least two more times. |

I run a very effective guristas saga. 2.5k shields with 46 shield regen. My usual run overs are 12-18 kills. Most games I do not die at all. Leading cause of deaths are railgun installations which I can take 2 hits from and tanks which I usually just switch to my swarm build, run around and swarm them to death. Most annoying part = dead soldiers getting caught in vehicle and immobilizing me long enough to be killed.
So yes, LAVs can be very powerful to those skilled in vehicles and know how to run and when to run over. |

If you want a sob LAV to kill, try a Methana with top shield extender, shield booster, 2 armor extenders, power diagnostics etc. Mine I believe is around 1.6k shields, 2.3k armor. I have engineering, circuity, shield control lvl 4 and mechanics lvl 5. Run with a repair tool and run once you start getting armor damage, repair, boost and return. It's what I called a Tank LAV. My favorite is still my saga though, the speed and shield regen just make it a care free vehicle. You have to be heavily vested in vehicles to have real fun with them. |

No, please don't stop. When the enemy seems infatuated with calling in a continuous stream of militia LAVs I love jumping into my Swarm fit. I try and wait until they are just about to all jump in before I release my missiles to get those extra WP. Sometimes, when they are dropping behind cover I go ahead and take them out so they can watch the burning wrecks fall from the sky.
Something so satisfying watching them explode.
So please, don't stop. |

I run a Baloch with plates and stuff 1500 armor plus a little more shields than normal and i can usually take 1 hit from a forge gun (excluding the adv/proto level)
But i only use it to get from spawn to first objective because it wont survive in a concentrated firefight. |

Here is my fit (from memory so I don' t know the exact module for certainty, but the HP is correct):
Methana: approximately 400 shields and 2400 armor (shield control at 3, and mechanics at 5)
High slots: Shield Recharge Shield Resist
Low slot: 60mm armor plates Armor resist mod Power diagnostic Armor rep
Gun: Standard blades |

Oh I had fun with an LAV today. Decided to mess around as a sniper.. Wasted some cash on a dropship to take me ontop of a tall tower. Got a bunch of kills up there, ran out of ammo. Do I jump down? No, of course not, call in an LAV and jump off the thing and live, like a boss ;) |

My Methana has almost 4000 HP (1000 HP shields, almost 3000 HP armor) and a 20 GJ Scattered Neutron Blaster that can wipe out most infantry. It costs about 130k ISK a fit.
I don't fit any repairers so that I can put more PG/CPU into HP. There is always a Supply Depot that can repair my armor.
You can't repair if you can't survive.
I also have a Baloch with 2750 HP for only 50k a fit. The Militia LAVs aren't completely useless if you fit the right modules. |
