type II is a shield version of the type 1. Type A is an improved type 1. The extra PG, CPU and highslot means that you can put more and better weapons on it. Its not worth it if you don't have all your base skills up. |

I know many who skip type-a and just go from type 2 to type b. Some guys like it, but I think they're weird xD. |

It's not too bad, but I find the extra high and CPU/PG isn't worth the cost IMO - run Type-II until you get your B-series.
Edit:
in full disclosure - I do run a couple versions of an A-series fit with complex damage mods for Pub. ambush matches. |

I'm away from the game, so I cant check the prerequisites.. When you say skip type a and move onto type b, do you mean I can save up the 600k sp needed for the suit? Or do I need to buy the type a, then the type b? Speaking of suit, it appears that the proto logi is the best (most versatile) should I just save up the 1.25m sp needed for the proto logi? Im currently running a type 2 and building up my core and main skills. |

nah, have to buy all of the ones before. I mean that many get the suit and don't use it, or just save up enough to buy them both at the same time.

Hmm. Im wondering if I should just keep the type 2 for now, and save up the 2-3 mil sp its gonna cost me to go straight to proto? Just wanted to clarify how exactly is the proto assault worse? Aside from the lack of equipment slots |

proto logi (VK.1) vs assault
> faster run speed: 5.3 vs 5.1 > faster sprint speed: 7.4 vs 7.1 > more pg: 78 vs 66 > more cpu: 390 vs 330 > 4/3/4
and the logi suit gets 4 high mods and 4 lows. The assault suits get 3 high and 4 low, or 4 high and 3 low depending on how you go.
Assault has a smaller hit box, scan is a bit diff, and so is shield recharge rate... but
that can all be fixed by the additional high or low slot on your logi suit ;)
btw, most assault I know are going assault suit anyways. Logi suit is only better at the proto level, so it's a long grind. You also don't get a sidearm yet on the logi suit. There are apparently plans or something on the Eve market for a logi suit with a sidearm... |

Thanks for the info! I'm wondering if I should just go with both... Either way, im only at 1.5 mil sp, so I'm upgrading my core skills as well as survivability first, then I'll focus on my suits.. |

Type-II is:
31% cheaper than the A-Series.
It has 21% less PG, 21% less CPU, 80% more shields, 40% less armour, identical shield recharge rate, 20% less shield recharge delay, identical depleted shield recharge delay, 2% greater movement speed, 1% greater sprint speed, same sprint duration and stamina, 15% more stamina recovery rate, same scan profile/precision/radius, one fewer high modules, same equipment slots, same low modules and weapon slots and requires one fewer levels in Caldari Assault Dropsuit.
We need some kind of importance weighting on each of those values before we can properly compare the two, is ISK worth more to you than having high shields? It depends on your playstyle. |

As the game stands now - being able to fit 3 complex damage mods (or 2 and shield extenders) works well for killing quickly since stacking penalties are messed up, however, I still prefer the type-II for most situations due to isk cost. |

I only use the type A for a LR suit until I get Type B next week. For some reason I struggle to stay alive in the type A vs the Type II and B |

Id say the type 2 is all ya need for a while. At least until other racial suit options with different stats come out. I don't think you'll find yourself doing much better with an A and you will definitely be spending more money. |

type-A is for an armor tanker with damage mods or a recharge based.. you won't be that impressed with it
i managed to fit 3 complex damage mods on a A-suit with 'cyclone' EXO-MD...

Type-As are great if you don't have shield skills as it's much easier to get into a
Field Mechanic (5% armor/level) is a 1x skill with no prerequisites, whereas Shield Control (5% shield/level) is a 3x skill with another skill required (up to level4 no less) beforehand. You can get the basic armor plates almost immediately as well.
If you're still *pretty new* you're better off training up the skills you started with. I think Arbiters start with a leg up in shield skills, so they're better suited from the get go. Don't waste that SP cross-training right away. |
