I have been killed a few time recently by shotguns. It's really annoying because they just run up and shoot once and I die.
How do others deal with this? Obviously not letting them get close would be a start, but that is not always possible.
Thanks

Strafe while backing up and change movement directions about every two seconds.
Full time shotgun scout here and it's about 3x harder to hit someone when they are being a ballerina.
Also, try to run away when they're reloading and never chase one around a corner. |

It's mainly luck. The typical stuff with close-range fighting goes without saying -- strafe rapidly, don't ADS, etc -- but there's not much for it. Either you are able to spot them before they get close and instantly kill you, and hopefully enough of your shots register to kill them before they kill you in a few hits, or you don't. No great trick that I'm aware of.
That said, I believe the main issue with scouts is as it's always been: When they're moving rapidly, hit detection takes a nose dive. I believe that, once hit detection is straightened out, scouts will be far less of an issue. |

Run directly at them, they'll never expect it and they'll go all googly eyes, like this:

If you are an assault rifle guy, have a SMG as a side arm. When you get into close quarter areas use the SMG.. If you don't kill them then hope the SMG sound scares them. And then the SMG is better at point blank. |

If you're not taking fire from somewhere else, stay out in the open and keep your distance from the scout's cover. Stalemate until one of you gets impatient or backup arrives. |

If you can see the scout coming, you have the advantage in most cases. Just walk backwards while strafing & if your a decent shot it shouldn't be to difficult to handle. The scouts only real advantage is stealth, & if you can improve your situational awareness (ie: checking your 6 often, not relying on your mini map, & if blue dots are vanishing, you might want to turn around) we are pretty easy to take down. |

Time your strafing right to make it as hard as possible to hit, be careful of changing directions when strafing since you slow down for a moment and it opens a window for the shotgunner to OHK you. |

SMG is the bane of my scout shotgun existance. In one on one verses a single guy there are three ways in which I die:
My shots don't register, yes that bug is still about and he has time to shoot me in the face.
The guy has a monster shield tank, giving him time to get over the initial shock of "suddenly shotgun" and track me.
The guy has an smg.
The scouts biggest strength it can one shot some types of player. Its biggest weakness is if it fails to one or two shot someone then your basically dead, giving your opponent type to lovelingly tea bag you while you lie bleeding on the ground. |

I have a very good survival rate in 1v1s against shotgunners. The trick for me, is to stay really close to them while strafing back and forth while hip firing my Assault rifle. They usually end up missing all of their shots.
In most cases you do not want to move backwards, away from the gunner. I know it sounds like it would make sense to do that, but if you are already in the shotgunners kill zone, then when you sacrifice your side to side movements for forward and backward movements, you're making it easier for the shotgunner to get that one/two shot kill. (and it only takes a second). The only time it's acceptable to run backwards is if the shotgunner is at medium range, sprinting towards you with speed mods, and your not a good enough shot to kill him before he gets to you.
As for Scout suits specifically, you want to just always be moving. AT ALL TIMES. There is literally no reason you should be standing still, ever (unless you are head-glitching in the mountains). This is also a good way to make yourself a harder target for all enemies, including snipers. Even when you are hacking, you still have a bit of room to move in all directions sporadically. Most of the time, shotgunners (but mostly snipers) will miss their first shot, alerting you that someone snuck behind you. |

His shots aren't registering on you more than yours are on him. The reason you're successful half the time is because scout suits wreak havoc with hit detection for whatever dumb reason, and so you get far more survivability in a scout suit than you ought to otherwise have. |

Thats wierd because 80% of my kills are from behind or are jackel (preying on wounded or weak animals) kills. I almost never go face to face with people, its a sure way to die. There was one time where I killed a bunch of guys around a CRU but I just figured it was luck.
I had no idea scout suits are so difficult to hit. I killed plenty scouts as a scout. Maybe its because the class is rarer than assault and that odd hit detection bug is significantly more apparent on the Assault class due to comminality. |

Ever faced a frame rate counter player in Street Fighter? They're unbeatable and time everything perfectly. I do the same with shotguns - though it's hard if you don't know what type they're using. since most use militia it's *After first fire you have 2 seconds until next shot, just dodge then*

Yes, scout suits provoke the faulty hit detection more than any other suit. No, it doesn't make you unkillable. Yes, sometimes scouts die to guns despite CCP's best efforts. |
