STANDINGS
Hell yea there should be standings. Standings are a simple and proven mechanic that flags friend from foe. Best of all CCP owns this concept and has already deployed it in EVE Online which is the universe that Dust 514 shares.
Grunts and Corporations should be able to set each other a darker shade of red so that rivalries and blood feuds can be indulged. The insulting loud mouth in local should be rewarded with all sorts of love. On the flip side of this is that perhaps you donGÇÖt want to shoot your allies.
Being able to set standing at will for any reason in Dust 514 would empower Players to determine who they want to target or ally. This puts social justice back into the Players hands.
STANDINGS MATCH FILTER
Dust Mercenaries or Corporations set to red standings would never be found on the same team. This setting need not be mutual in order to take effect.
Blues would never be found on the opposing side. However the individuals or corporations involved must set each other positive to benefit from the Blue effect.
STANDINGS & FRIENDLY FIRE
Standings combined with a Standings Match Filter are a solution that allows for friendly fire to be enabled. So from the moment a new player's boots hit Dust 514 he/she has the ability choose who not to play with.
Everyone would have the freedom to set anyone red for any reason at any moment. If someone were to TK you, you set the tard red and abandon the contract. Next time you see him/her it will always be in your crosshars with a marker that lets you know there is someone special to kill. Offenders of friendly fire or other behavior that undermines a team could find themselves in lonely situations.
What makes the political spectrum in EVE Online intriguing is the simple fact that you can at any moment shoot anyone at will. What keeps one from crossing the brink are the consequences.
I enjoy sandbox gaming. I love the freedom to choose. It is my choice to pull the trigger without any formal declaration of war. Implementing a grand conquest aspect of Dust 514 without friendly fire is going to be a neutered version of what one would expect from EVE.
When I call in an Orbital Strike, I would like for GÇ£Danger CloseGÇ¥ to mean something! |

Technically it is CCP's idea.
A simple version of the STANDINGS FILTER is being used for the Targeting Overview in EVE Online. The technology has been already created. It just needs to be adapted to Dust 514. |

I like the idea. But I also like the idea of rival corps forced to work together on a contract.
Maybe they never would? But what if the offer is too good to turn down? Or they dont know until they hit the field? Drama! |

It happens in EVE. Regional Blocs of Power will agree to a temporary cease fire and blue standings for the duration of dealing with foreign invaders. Neighborly Enemies become frenemys for a common goal and then go back to fighting each other once the greater threat to their individual sovereignty is neutralized. There have been many occasions that a temporary blue would reset standings during a fight and side with the enemy. STANDINGS are that flexible.

This is part of that "first" of many things that are needed.
Shooting members of your own corporation because of a some script of code randomly placed them on the opposing team and not having the choice to team up them to kill everyone else is not the New Eden universe that I have known for over seven years. |

Randoms are stealing my fitted rides and crashing them. I cant shoot them. I cannot prevent them from being on my side. Current system lacks consequences. In fact there are zero consequences in Dust 514. This is not the EVE Universe.

i agree with the standings thing, would make it easier to bear with the random matches...
would also make it so i dont end up against my own corporation, since that's happend a couple of times, was a nice challenge match, but i really dont want to makea habit of it |

In old build there was a standings tab, said coming soon when selected. So, I think some form of standing was planned, this suggested version would be great.
In EvE, factions will let you take missions if down to -2 standing on a scale of -10 to +10. The more profitable missions are only open to pilots in good standing. High standings are needed for other things, like building space stations in there territory. At -5, if I remember right, the npc of that faction fire on you.
Player corps can set standings to player corps at will. Npc faction standing is average of all players separate standings.
edit. Rather then never blue vs blue or red on team, make it a preference so it puts them that way if possible then balances team with extra if needed. This would avoid issue of corps with a lot of blue/red set having trouble with finding matches. Maybe have a separate setting for will play against/with that has default set by red/blue. So a blue sparring partner could be set blue/will fight against, for example. |

Well Ted,
I am very confident that there will never be a situation in which everyone will be blue to each other. New Eden has been around for about 10 years. There has been every oppurtunity and freedom to make a Blue Universe but that has never come to past. People like to blow each other to hell.
Corporations and Alliance would go on a reset binge if there was too much blue.
Reset standings was always inclinded in this idea. |

No reason not to have this. For a start, it is in Eve and it works in Eve. Dust is in New Eden just like Eve and has Corporations and will have Factions just like Eve.
I'm honestly kindof disappointed in CCP for not incorporating more ideas that work almost perfectly in Eve into Dust. Standings is one of those ideas. |

Yep. In fact it is like that in EVE. The basic framework is already setup.
Personal Standings Corporate Standings Alliance Standings
You would have the ability to sets standings for yourself. CEOs and Directors would set standings for their corporation. Alliance Executor would set standings for an alliance.
Now they just need to enable it all in Dust 514 and add a Standings Based Match Filter.
Standings plus a Standings Match Filter is a simple solution that would address so many issues. I don't know of any FPS out there that has something like this. So not only here is a chance to address the big issues that are a concern in this game but also an opportunity to be innovative.
Standing would still be useful even If this game were to offer Planetary Open Worlds at a future date. You would still need to let the perimeter defenses, turret installation and ect know who to tear apart if the "No Trespassing" is not translated properly. |

You would have to manually set each person red to be the man against the universe. Yea if you wanted that, it should be your prerogative and an option.

hello. Just came up with a new idea for bounties which I think fit in with this thread.
So, if you place a bounty on someone's head, everyone on the opposing team sees a colored chevron above that person's head. When aimed at, it shows that bounty, and number of times that bounty will be paid. Alternatively, it shows time of bounty or amount of money paid according to amount of money lost by the person whom the bounty is put on.
So let me explain. Number of times the bounty will be paid means the number times the hunted is killed that the bounty will be paid. For instance, if the contracter sets this to 5 and the bounty to 5,000(random number), the next 5 people that kill this person with receive 5,000 isk. Time of bounty means the time in game that the bounty is active. For instance, if this is set to 5 minutes, anyone that kills him/her in 5 minutes will receive the bounty. |
