It really really is. Sure, you may not be the fastest thing on the ground, but the extra armor you have more then makes up for it. Especially the type II suit. if you're going to dance with a heavy, it's best you bring you that shield tanked suit to survive those CQC situations.
Why do so many of you run around with the scout shotty combo anyway? I mean, it's inferior to the assault shotty combo in every way! (except for speed, that matters very little in most situations.)
The scout suit is simply not fit for CQC combat. Sure, SOME of you may do well with it, but you would do a hell of a lot better if you threw on an assault suit. |

Speed and the low scan profile make it easy to get the drop on people. |

Super bunny hops.
You cannot super bunny hop in an assault suit.
I enjoyed facing your fit, but mine is 100% militia with no relevant skills trained. I'd be curious to see the difference if I had more invested in the playstyle. I also like that scouts are a bit harder to detect and shoot, so it makes sneaking up on people a bit easier, which plays right into my playstyle. |

Yea, my fit is mainly built to dance with heavies as there are a lot of them in small maps like bio mass.
I've only got 1 point invested into shot guns so I could stop using the HK4m, and use a shotgun that requires less CPU/GP to use. |

Yea, I'm just sitting on those. I actually had an insane amount of fun with a Breach Shotgun logi in the past build, with 2 complex damage mods....mmm, glorious. It's funny watching heavies freak out when you 1hk them up close, or 2 hits from a good range |

Throw one more point in there. The breach and specilist shotguns are both much better. Either you have a killer heavy one shot weapon, or you get an 8 shot, higher RoF shotgun that only takes up 2pg. |

Here's a few reasons why scout shotgun is superior to assault shotgun:
1. Lower scan profile, with the right skills you could walk by enemies without them noticing at all 2. Greater scan radius, you can easily detect people trying to flank you, or catch lone wolfs trying sneak behind your lines 3. Speed, you can run to people before they even realize you're there, and run away real fast when things get rough. Plus excellent for dodging. 4. Super bunnyhops, an extremely useful feature for dodging and reaching targets faster. 5. Smaller hitbox = harder to hit 6. Super fast shield regeneration, the little shields you have can be generated near instantly, very useful for popping in and out of combat. 7. Most of the time you are not facing heavies with HMGs, which means extra armor would only hinder you when facing other dropsuits. 8. I hate Caldari. I mean, their leader is a lunatic who tries to get us all killed! |

For reasons that arn't apparent, the scout suit is the best CQC platform.

Stick two Kinetic Catalysts on a type II assault suit and you can close the distance on people very nicely. The extra shields from two extenders gives you that little bit more survivability, especially if you run into a squad - if you're shots are on targets you can easily find yourself surrounded by corpses.
Having a lower scan profile on a scout suit is very handy, but I find if someone knows I'm there, they often get impatient and try and rush around a corner after me. Not a good idea , in most situations anyway!
A scout with a shotty is often the rock to my scissors though! |

I don't trust the scan system at all. There's been way too many times that a Heavy just up and decides to turn around holding the trigger down when there was not a soul in sight besides me and him.

I overheard Wolfman going on in IRC about lowering scanning so it will be harder for people to see others behind them, great for profile dampened shotty scouts. |

I originally had an assault shotgun suit. Like the op, I thought having the extra armour was of greater benefit in a CQC battle. Then I tried putting a shotgun on a scout and realised how very wrong I was.
I now run around with a dragonfly and standard shotgun, with profile dampener and scanners, sprinting right up to people and gunning them down with 1 shot. I see people before they know I'm there, jump over railings as they climb staircases and then rush them from behind, before sprinting off to find more victims. I can run around the outside the entire base in seconds and get behind an entire squad that is camped in 1 spot and take all of them out with ease.
I have had dodgy initial spawns in this suit where I have found myself surounded by multiple enemies, and have wasted them all with my superior strafing speed. The scout shotgunner is death incarnate. |

I've used both, and been effective with both. I've killed - and been killed by - both setups in fights with both setups. I've gone Scout vs. Assault and Assault vs. Scout, I've gone Scout vs. Scout and Assault vs. Assault.
Both suit types are great platforms on which to use a Shotgun, but both require a different playstyle to get the best out of them. If you're better with the Assault suit, that's great. Doesn't make it objectively better. |

If any enemy anywhere aims at you, you're on the radar. Makes it hard to blame the scanner. I get scouts killed all the time from like 500m away just by pointing my shotgun at them when they are trying to be sneaky.
I only play scout and can definitely say the low profile works, also not running near people is crucial. |

So I haven't figured out this "log in" thing with Annie Oakley II so just deal with it for now. Yes, yes, this is calamity's log in but hey why not abuse it while I can. So the subject is interesting enough that I have to put in my two cents on this one. Sorry Disturbing Bored, I am not a scout shotty. The horrible truth is I'm a B series wearing assault, with an advanced shotgun and no remorse. I see plenty of scout shotgun users out there and I applaud them for their efforts every time I one shot them. I have to put in my lot with assault suit on this one, I've run scout shotty in the previous builds and by far survivability out weighs speed 90% of the time. Yes the scouts can dance, and close the gaps rather fast, but at the end of the day unless you catch your prey off guard you are going to need tons of range and luck to survive. I don't want anyone to feel that this is an attack on you if you use the scout/shotgun combo, that is not my intent. It is my OPINION, so don't take it as fact until you try it yourself. Each class plays differently so who knows, that ultra fast hard to hit scout might just be the thing for you... But watch out. I will find you, and I will beat you like you owe me money! |
