This is basically an explanation which has been pointed out by some of the more logical mercenaries in DUST and is a valid argument to the chaos ensued by the huge nerf wave.
Each weapon is designed for different purposes, each having their own pros and cons. They also have a weapon that can be considered their 'prey weapon', the weapon they're more effective at defeating.
Here is the basic circle or rather chain of weapons and what beats what, like rock paper scissors:
Shotgun beats most at close range
HMG beats most at close range too
Laser Rifle beats most at long range
Sniper beats most at Long range too
AR beats most depending on skill and effective range and accuracy
So to overcome all excluding the AR, (because as much as you scrubs hate it, it does take skill) you basically do the opposite of their effectiveness:
Shotgun gets beaten if attacked from long range
HMG gets beaten at long range + swarm of infantry
Laser rifle gets beaten by close range
Sniper gets beaten by close range
Now you guys might be spouting the thought "Easier said than done." but if you concentrate and keep in mind of each weapon's weakness you'll turn out to have the victory.
And remember, you will die a lot. So it's not fail proof.

I'd prefer every weapon to just have the same range, dmg and accuracy because that would be much more fun.  |

You forgot to add that if the HMG gets flanked the fatty in the can gets killed pretty much all the time. |

This would not make it more fun at all. This game would be completely boring if every weapon was the exact same. If you are being serious then I would highly recommend finding a different game to play, because this game is about versatility and it's never going to all be the same. |
