Pretty simple question, does running make it easier for the enemy to detect you on their radar? |

It's not know how much but yes: if you run, you can be detected more easily. |

My thing is that I wonder how much scan precision matters when you are outside a dropsuits scan range. So If you know that you are more than 35m from most people (which is about the outer limit of a long range scanning scout with good skills) you should be able to safely run, seen only by those scoping you. |

You are forgetting the basic function of not Drop Suits but the MCC. The MCC provides TacNet. That is the tactical network that connects all the Mercs on one side of the Battle. Loss of the MCC can be catastrophic for Mercs remaining on the field of battle.
As any Red is observed it is registered into TacNet and broadcast to all but may only be registered by those closest to the observer depending on battle field conditions and network loads. When the subject drops out of sight it may drop off TacNet as well. When seen once again its Red chevron will return to grace your HUD.
Items that are out of view and not generating excess energy consumption are more difficult to detect. That has been established as we all now moving behind buildings or objects helps avoid detection by TacNet. The faster you move the easier it is to spot your Suit. Your Drop Suits are armored and powered. Using that power to Sprint causes the power plant to generate more heat which will make it easier to spot in the haze of battle.
The active Scanners will increase the effectiveness of TacNet when they are functional once more. When included into a completely functional TacNet all new information will be broadcast immediately to Team members nearby to help in assessing the situation and, hopefully, elimination of same.
Please, in the future, just log into your suit and access the help menu that is powered by the User Interface Device, which currently resides where your spleen used to be*, plus the additional information which is under the Training Ground in the Forums sub section of the User Interface Guide.
*Note that Immortals have no need of spleens, so don't worry your little self about that. |

Yes, it does. @ the other guy with the long post, I'm pretty sure he's talking about the mini-map radar.
You can be behind a wall standing still, but if there's another guy on the other side of the wall and he starts sprinting, he will appear with a red blip on your radar. It used to be broken, but it apparently works now. I have seen this myself.
If you want to creep, you have to do it slowly. Good luck not getting spotted.

I believe that's just for radar range, but I'm not entirely sure how it works. For some reason red dots appear at almost every distance whenever you aim down the sights. I think the dropsuit radius is just for the red blips that appear on the minimap around you. It's not team mate shared vision, but I can put up my iron sights and get red dots across the map.
Once before the reset I believe I saw some guy who must have had all the profile dampening gear he could possibly use. I was a little surprised that a red dot wasn't appearing, so like any sensible player I shot at the offending object with my rifle. To my surprise I got red hit markers, and then I quickly got a kill. After that I rely more on what I can see, especially if it's moving, instead of the red dot. I might throw up sights to check if blue.
I have absolutely no idea why people like the profile dampening stuff. I guess it makes you harder to get a red dot for a whole squad to see, but if you're going against a halfway decent squad someone will shoot you, and if you get away he'll call out your location on coms. My theory is that people believe that if they do not have a red dot on their head, they are invisible. |

My shotgun scout CQC gear has dual profile dampeners, and I have Dropsuit Command at 5 and am skilling up dampening skill to 5 as well. After that I will be skilling up my scanning skills.
Why? I almost never get picked up by enemy radar. As long as I approach the enemy out of their line-of-sight and ensure they are facing the other direction, I get a jump on them 99% of the time. Even with minimal scanning skills and no such mods, I pick up 99% of enemy players in my radar thanks to scout suit's high native scanning precision. I've run into only a handful of scouts I didn't detect on my radar recently - stealth is underrated.
You'd be surprised how much people even in heavies trust their minimap, and don't look around. If a squad is engaged with my corp mates, I can often flank them without detection, and break their ranks. I rarely run to keep my profile down; for cover when jumped myself, or out of enemy range.
It would be good to know how long it takes for me to drop off the radar when I go out of sight. It seems it is very quick, as when I go into hiding, the guy I'm stalking doesn't seem to know where I'm coming from.
I don't think I've run into active scanners, so not sure how much of a game changer they are. |

Im runnining a similar setup. From what Ive seen against enemy scouts, you drop off radar incredibly fast. Ive been using the assumtion that I disappear the moment I break line of sight, it hasnt failed me yet.

But that's my point. If you have to approach an enemy from behind for it to work, there's no difference between doing that with dampeners and without.

Like I said, there's a chance it might work in pub matches against oblivious opponents, but it has little to no value in corp battles. In corp battles everyone is looking around.
idk, the choice is yours. Personally, I don't see a point in wasting stuff on things that do not help me win battles that matter to me, aka corp battles. |

Sure there is. Let's assume my scan profile is 30 without dampeners, 20 with them. For an enemy with scan precision of 25 I would show up on her radar without dampeners, but not with them. |

I have noticed heavies(large profile) can be seen short distance through a wall. With good skills a close range person behind you can show on map. A red chevron will be added at long range if reticule is held on them.
Enemies start to disappear when moving behind cover, with better scan skills it takes few seconds. I killed a hmg heavy with a smg at close range by running around a supply depot this way. I could tell what way he was walking and kept running behind him then retreating. Every time he changed direction so did I since I could see him and he couldn't see me through the building.
So, it seems to be they show on map when in scan range or seen by a team mate.
We don't know if scan strength is constant and stops at the radius, or if it is x strong at x distance. Being weaker further away and stronger closer in. If the second is true sensor strength would matter for even snipers, if not then only cqc will need dampener and sensor boosters. |
