I guess it makes you harder to get a red dot for a whole squad to see, but if you're going against a halfway decent squad someone will shoot you, and if you get away he'll call out your location on coms. My theory is that people believe that if they do not have a red dot on their head, they are invisible.
My shotgun scout CQC gear has dual profile dampeners, and I have Dropsuit Command at 5 and am skilling up dampening skill to 5 as well. After that I will be skilling up my scanning skills.
Why? I almost never get picked up by enemy radar. As long as I approach the enemy out of their line-of-sight and ensure they are facing the other direction, I get a jump on them 99% of the time. Even with minimal scanning skills and no such mods, I pick up 99% of enemy players in my radar thanks to scout suit's high native scanning precision. I've run into only a handful of scouts I didn't detect on my radar recently - stealth is underrated.
You'd be surprised how much people even in heavies trust their minimap, and don't look around. If a squad is engaged with my corp mates, I can often flank them without detection, and break their ranks. I rarely run to keep my profile down; for cover when jumped myself, or out of enemy range.
It would be good to know how long it takes for me to drop off the radar when I go out of sight. It seems it is very quick, as when I go into hiding, the guy I'm stalking doesn't seem to know where I'm coming from.
I don't think I've run into active scanners, so not sure how much of a game changer they are. |

But that's my point. If you have to approach an enemy from behind for it to work, there's no difference between doing that with dampeners and without.
Sure there is. Let's assume my scan profile is 30 without dampeners, 20 with them. For an enemy with scan precision of 25 I would show up on her radar without dampeners, but not with them. |
