I did a google search for "DUST 514 site:youtube.com" restricted to the last 24 hours. It returned a lot of "this is my first game in dust" results.
The videos tell a interesting story about how new people are confused by the game. Most of these folks aren't dumb or clueless. They just come from a different place and have different expectations about what they should see when they first play a new game.
If the Devs aren't looking at these they are missing a great source of feedback. |

So what would you like to see changed? Sure this game has a steaper learming curb than most but the game is "free" and clearly ment to last years and years. If they don't like the game they can simply remove it from there harddrive. If people do have questions the should come to the fourms or ask questions in local.

We've seen all sorts of discussion about what CCP's target audience is, how people should be introduced to the game, ... But only the Devs can establish that vision and make the changes necessary to implement it.
With these new videos they have a treasure trove of information about new players' impressions and they get to watch those players and gauge what kind of player they are.
All I wanted to do it highlight that source in case they, somehow, were not looking at it.

The problem here is that these console players who never even heard of New Eden have been conditioned by the console gaming industry to act so needy. The industry knew how to exploit their desires in such a way that now we have a bunch of players demanding so many things that practically amount to hand outs or hand holding from the developers.
Also, with the rise of big companies like Electronic Arts, Bungie, 343 Industries, Infinity Ward, etc. all rushing and pushing games that are so overly hyped yet are just redecorated versions of their original selves that players now have this level of expectation that is so unrealistically high that many of them now think and a "BETA" (a work in progress) is a "DEMO" (representation of a finalized game).
It's sad really.
You have to also remember that Dust will have to stand out from the rest of the console games. All too often I kept seeing players outside of the forums wanting Dust to be just like Halo/CoD/BF3. But they don't realize that doing so will only limit the success of Dust. |

it doesn't mater if it is a game, or complex professional 3d modeling software. you start with the over-arching main ideas, the important basics, then the details. with dust, it seems like you are just thrown into the universe, and then you are told how some detailed menus work. that doesn't help anyone.
i honestly think, without a great first run experience, the whole endeavor will fail. i hope i am wrong! i want this game to succeed. |

WARNING: RANT. Not aimed at OP or anyone in thread necessary
As usual, the vast majority of F***wits will make quick, inept judgements of a game still in development that they did not make any attempt to research or comprehend. I'm not trying to throw the "I'm better than everyone" card out there but frankly I wonder how many of these people recording videos function on a daily basis with the sheer lack of comprehension in some regards.
Yes, the game does not explain a whole lot in terms of the gameplay itself, the tutorial (Such as it is) is a handful of dry paragraphs, and there is very little hand-holding for your first few tenative steps in dust. That being said, my largest struggle was simply learning to play shooters with analog sticks again, having figured out the gist of things within a few matches, and still learning all the time by simply exploring and reading up.
If you don't understand it, post some feedback as such, give a few constructive opinions on how it might be improved, and move on. Don't just complain, whinge and whine and expect the developers to somehow know exactly what you want "but wait I didn't want that, you guys aren't listening to us, work faster, finish the game, this game sucks I'm leaving forever and no one will play it!".
/end rant
Abbreviated version: Their expectation should be that of a game in an unfinished state. Anything else is a failure on their part. |
