I feel like and LMG would allow you to turn the assault suit into the poor man's heavy. You lose out on the sheer killing power, but gain mobility. It allows mobile fire teams to have the fire support and suppression that is lacking in the AR, while not being nearly as tanky as the heavy, and not having anywhere near the damage output. Basically, I would like to see an LMG that is a middle ground between AR and HMG. |

You guys throwing all of your ammo all over the battlefield and not hitting anything, will havew to realize some day, that you go through your logi's nanohives faster than we can put them down. Sometimes its better to have a little more conservative weapon. |

So what would be the LMG's balancing factors?
- Slower rate of fire than AR - Does more damage per bullet than AR - Range isn't as far as AR and/or the bullets have more spread than AR - Heavier than AR, but can be used by assault, logi or heavy class. Would also slow down assault/logi's.
Perhaps the LMG could allow the heavy to be a bit more mobile with less raw power, or slow down the assault/logi player but give a boost in damage at closer ranges.
Would be interesting, more weapon choices the better! |

We do have a semi-LMG, the Krin officer rifle that has a 90 rnd magazine and 500 rnd + personal payload. Maybe something like that, except give it a 100-125rnd box mag (maybe make it a Caldari (rail gun) weapon because we have so very few of them of worth, or maybe a Minni weapon?)
What about throwing in a Ammarian Heavy weapon, like a gatling pulse laser or heavy laser? I would love to have that form my heavy.
Just wait till we have to spec into race specific weapons and when there are also race based modifiers for the dropsuits and weapons. |

I want an LMG. 100-150 rounds per mag, low damage, low accuracy, high spread. It could be a badass lightning weapon like this, it could be a plasma induced electrolaser like the scrambler pistol. Pulse lasers are good too, but by definition an LMG can't be a heavy weapon. |

Its nice to have something in between, especially if its not restricted to the heavy suit. Weapon variety is a good thing. |

If you want a true LMG similar to the likes of what we have today I think putting a 200rd box mag on the standard rifle, making it just slightly more inaccurate and adding an overheating mechanic and then you would have a nice LMG. |

Because it would be an easy implementation, and it seems instant gratification is the game to some of the people wanting new guns LIKE YESTERDAY. lol I'm happy with what we have at the moment. And with streaming content they can add and remove weapons so an AR LMG seems like a decent quick fix. |

Go the BF3 route and just have the LMG as high ammo capacity low damage fire to pin down groups of reds so team mates can try flank them. Although many a time i see a bunch of reddots huddled behind a CRU and be nice to have a 100-200 round low damage rifle to attempt to just clean em out. It works well on battlefield and i'm sure a similar item could work as a lightweight weapon make it 15-20hp damage with an ammo cart of 200 rof 600rpm maybe put a tact scope on it too seeing as its normally a ranged weapon |

A good balance would have to include the ability to go prone.
Either the heavy can carry the LMG and fire it while walking, and the other suits would have to go prone with it to fire it. It'd have to be a camper weapon with a ton of ammo, fast rate of fire, medium damage and meant mostly for suppression of targets. |

honestly people this just sounds like a worse version of a HMG, there is no need for a LMG. Suppression, only a idiot gets out of cover when a HMG is aimed at you, high rate of fire? why the HMG spits out 2000rpm,medium damage? again so does the HMG, loads of ammo? why 500 round belts and 1200 rounds before we even start skilling up ammo capacity.
you're just asking for a worse version of a class exclusive weapon, the whole point of the HMG being a heavy only weapon is that it gives them an anti-infantry function designed to dominate in close range, an LMG would be a watered down version of a HMG in every respect. Giving an assualt class a weapon that cannot compete with its closest cousin in any respect would be as smart as giving a heavy a nova knife and expecting him to do well |

An LMG wouldn't have to be a watered down HMG, but a middle ground between the HMG and the AR.
It would have a bigger magazine than the AR, but smaller magazine than the HMG, It would have less accuracy than the AR, but more accuracy than the HMG. It would have less range than the AR, but more range than the HMG.
EDIT: If you think about it, an AR is a middle between the SMG and the sniper rifle. But no one says they're pointless.
AR has more range than an SMG, but less range then a sniper rifle, AR has more damage than a SMG, but less than a sniper rifle. AR has a smaller magazine size than a SMG, but more than a sniper rifle.
Someone could say the same about laser rifles being between sniper rifles and ARs as well, but I'm glad those are in the game. |

You make a good point and i like your comparison's, but it comes down would the LMG benefit the game or would it simply be a weapon whose very existence required a range of mods on existing weapons just to guarantee it a niche and to prevent it from becoming an AR with more ammo |

I think the game could definitely benefit from it, but that depends on the kind of stats it has. I would want it to have more spread and kick, but a magazine of 150 would to make up for it. It would be extremely useful for dealing with groups of enemies. |

After thinking about it, I would actually kind of like an LMG. It'd be still pretty heavy, so a movement penalty, but it'd be a light weapon [Light Machine Gun], so Assaults could use them. I would definitely support their addition if there was a WP bonus for suppressive fire. |

But again the HMG has a decent spread and it already tears apart groups, the whole point of a heavy is to be a walking turret. I have to say I can't see the LMG being effective as either the AR or HMG, and any effort to put it between them will result in both weapons being changed considerably |

An LMG isn't competing with the HMG since they aren't in the same class; the HMG is a heavy weapon, its suppose to be more deadly than other weapons. The LMG only has to compete with other light weapons like the AR to be useful; just tweak it until its balanced compared to the AR while maintaining a big magazine, and success. |

The minmatar service rifle should be a light machine gun. Instead of a Minmatar assault rifle it would be a lmg. The pictures of minmatar infantry show them carrying something resembling sci-fi M60.
Based off eve racial tendencies. lmg would be longer max range then ar, but damage would start dropping off sooner. More bullet loses power gradually and less bullet stops mid air. Range about the same as tac ar, but damage starting to drop at range breach does would be about right. So enemy can be harassed at range, but kills will mostly be at close range. Real lmg have range about the same as designated marksmen rifles.
If rate of fire was low at around 300rpm, like Browning automatic rifle of wwii fame, it could be feasible to use projectiles with arcs. This would make using the longer range harder to help with balance with the ar.
Projectile weapons do less damage per second then plasma weapons, so it should be lower dps then the ar. The low rate of fire and large magazine would allow it to maintain fire longer then ar. Damage per second between smg and ar would be good.
since it is single barrel it would overheat faster then hmg, but since it fires slower it would take about same number of seconds.
So something like Optimal range 23m max range 110m rate of fire 300/min damage 72(at this rate of fire 66.6 is same dps as smg, 77.5 is same as ar) heat 15 per second, magazine around 80 or so, maybe 240 rounds carried. Would take 16 seconds to empty mag, but overheat in less then 7.
Operation skill would reduce overheat like hmg. So no skill to reduce recoil, and recoil should be heavier then ar. It's firing large caliber bullets, not plasma, so it would kick like a mule. So, best way to fire would be controlled bursts, the way a real lmg is used to conserve ammo and not melt barrels.
This should make it about equal to ar in versatility and power. Gallente troops standard issue assault rifles, Minmatar get these instead. So they must be roughly equal in power and versatility to ar. Between smg and hmg, not between ar and hmg. |
