I've seen a lot of rubbish about the HMG being overpowered so I thought, why don't we hold a vote on this?
So, to participate in the vote, sign into your character and click the like button on one of the 4 following posts.
So here it is:
#1: Shorten the Range
#2: Weaken the Power
#3: Both #1 and #2

You can't have a vote on weapon balancing.
Even though some people can look objectively at it, there will always be a lot people screwing up the votings because they vote against the weapon simply because they get killed by it. |

I've never used it. I've encountered it many times though.
shorten the range. should deff have more range than a shotgun though.
Most players i've encountered with the gun are slow moving (drawback), but armored like a tank. |

#4 I hate people asking for a heavy nerf. I don't usually take this crap personally, but its like you people want to ruin the game for anyone who doesn't use the same dropsuit or weapon as you. I especially hate the ones who never used HMGs before and yet think you have a reliable opinion on it. You need to have experienced it from both ends to get a full appreciation for both the strengths and weaknesses of both the weapon.
HMGs are powerful, but they have to be equipped on heavies who are very slow, have the highest signature profile of any dropsuit which makes them easy to detect (and easy to take them out from range *hint*), they can't carry any equipment like nanohives to resupply themselves. HMGs are almost unstoppable in their optimal range, just like snipers are almost unstoppable at long range, or shotguns are almost unstoppable at very close range. If you want to beat a HMG user, then don't get close to them, and use an AR, sniper, or laser to kill them from a distance. They are not OP, you just need to exploit their weaknesses and play tactically instead of whining and asking for nerfs. Its not some regular light weapon, its a freakin heavy only weapon, its suppose to shred through enemies. |

One more vote for #4, and there will be literally 4 times as many votes as ALL the other options combined.
Already have more than 5x the number of votes for any individual nerf suggestion, so that's showing... not much, because there aren't even 20 votes here yet... But a good start.
I'm inclined to say "no" to nerfing a weapon that already struggles against anyone who knows to avoid head-on attacks against heavy weapons. |

Game balance is not a democracy. You do not have access to the same information CCP does, nor their objectivity. It would be foolish of CCP to either change a weapon or not based on the whims of people more concerned with their own game performance than they are with Dust being as well-made as possible. |

My team was decimated this morning by a guy with an HMG, but it was always the same guy. My conclusion is that we ran into someone who was well equipped and skilled with his weapon of choice.
Spawning in front of an HMG really sucks!
Over all though, the lack of speed and the limited range keep the HMG from being an I Win button. You can flank them, you can avoid them, you can use specialized weapons to take them out, or you can get a few people together and snipe them from cover.
I vote to leave them the way they are. |

You would think so, but as I write this I count 4 votes to nerf and 14 votes to leave them alone. |

Yup, and I have never played Heavy, nor do I plan to in the near future. I am concentrating on Assault, and may dip a bit into sniper. CanGÇÖt do everything if you want to do it well.
HeavyGÇÖs with HMG are a great asset to a team, but they require support from non heavyGÇÖs if they go up against anyone who knows what they are doing. We almost got the bugger this morning when he got separated from his team and someone announced on combs that he was alone. He only survived because of good use of cover (not something you expect from heavyGÇÖs).
Also, I hope this thread acts as a good counter to the inevitable nerf HGM threads. You know that if you put an HMG up against a field of noobs there is going to be carnage unmatched by any other weapon, so Nerf threads are going to happen. Maybe a thread with some balanced discussion about it may help head some of them off, and maybe teach some newbs not to charge the machine guns. |

Range is really the only issue. It needs a slight decrease in range....or make the bloom bigger so that the gun isnt as accurate at range. |

There not actually that long range though. An AR can out-range them. |

The HMG is a noob stomping machine, but once you know how to tactically fight a heavy they are sitting ducks. In my experience, laser rifles are the best counters to an HMG because they are big slow targets who can't fight at range. There are few things more satisfying than watching an HMG's bullets turn to cotton candy right in front of my face while I melt him with a laser. |
