I'll be taking my sweet time to level up what I can, but seriously, 2k-ish SP is what I usually get in an Ambush match. Not sure about the Domination-type mode, becaus we always lose, but that's my average SP-gain. anything higher is just me on a lucky roll.
Also, is there a way to not use the default spawn point that places me infront of an enemy's crosshairs, killing me before I have a chance to turn around?

Hey sorry about the rants (although I'm sure there was valid reasons both ways)
The controls are admittedly unique and the gameplay can get cumbersome, but it was far worse over the summer and during the early beta. Fact is, you're talking to the remanent of those who survived and looked past all that for the far superior game we have today...so please understand what you're commenting and take the feedback with a few pinches of salt, eh? ;)
As for your edited questions: The sp-system was just recently altered from a daily-cap and previously a weekly cap, which allowed you to gain much larger ammounts of sp based on KDR scores per game. At the moment it is rather flat which benefits those who can play a large quantity of matches and disadvantages those who can only play a few. We are currently discussing ideas on how to best implement this critical feature and if you have some suggestions, please feel free to offer them.
The default spawn is only in skirmish mode as it is essentially a quick team-deathmatch, however you can use drop uplinks to provide direct spawn points on the map either through your equipment or through NPC static ones on the maps. However for the first drop, I just recommend grabbing your balls for a wild drop or simply tanking out with a minigun and running over anyone who was unlucky.
And no the game will be free and has had patches every 6-8 weeks. All free. Once they eventually move to expansions, you can see that Eve Online gets 2 free, Major Expansions every year...likewise for Dust 514. They still need to find good ways to make revenues though, so if you have ideas, post em.
I suppose for next time just try and articulate your points with a little more balance and be sure to ask questions with the expecation that they have been asked hundereds of thousands of times. Both because they most likely have and because you'll get far better feedback. And keep posting thoughts or ideas, I personally love to hear what the new bunnies think of our game after a year of grinding through all the changes. Hope to see you more on the forums.

Like I said dude, we are willing to help but we expect people to practice forum etiquette instead of making 'I demand answers now' threads, because just like frustration...bad manners will not get you anywhere either. Actually it may not hurt to buy one of each item counter to an earlier statement,
if you have spare isk and nothing else to do buy one of each item you are considering for the future use, this way when you make a fit the first time you don't have to back out constantly to buy something to fit into that slot its all right there ready to go when designing a new fit. Once fully tailor then restock it and see how it goes. Adjust, adapt, replan, impliment and try again, you will eventually make a soldier worthy of your skills. |

Also, is it me or is Melee utterly useless? And how do you use the Nova Knife? I charged the damn thing, hit him with it and even though I started to just melee him, he managed to turn around and shoot me dead.
Also, my 6 shooter and 3-mag Sniper Rifle are not 7 and 5 respectively. What happened?
PS: Btw, will the game cost anything when it officialy releases?
No the game is technically in official release, with expansions and improvements coming along the way Soon TM. However the game will forever be Free to play and never cost you any out of pocket money unless you want to.
With regards to melee, it is useless but that is because every other shooter has melee assist when close to a target that takes over and why melee seems so fluid in other games. In this game melee is unassited and you must be very close to the target for it to work and even then it is effected by the outline of your weapon. Melee damage is consistent across most dropsuits thought there are some suits that do more and there is a skill called hand to hand combat along with modules that can drastically increase melee(im talking OHK melee).
With regards to nova knives they are weak to start and is an area that may see improvement, but again like every other weapon it needs to be skilled into to make stronger. Additionally nova knife function as a weapon and you dont melee with them but rather use your trigger button to use them.
Also from the sounds of things you are already spreading yourself too thin in terms of weapons DONT DO THAT. If you are just experimenting and plan on creating a new one that different but its best to stick with one dropsuit and one weapon and focus on that for the next month or two before any deviation into other stuff, trust me i learned this the hard way
This post in training ground is a good start to give you an idea of where you should begin
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=428342#post428342.
With regards to ambush there are two variations, one with random spawning the other with dedicated spawn points. With random spawning there are times when a teammate will put down a temporary spawn point known as a drop uplink however like CRU(clone reanimation units)(installation that provides a set spawn point) they will be camped quite hard. When these are available for you to use pressing X will spawn you there, Pressing [ ] however will spawn you in randomly to a one of a number of predetermined spawning areas. Its random luck but a good idea is to wait 5-10 seconds before spawning back in and that sometimes mitigates you get caught in a enemy dense area.
SP gains are directly related to you WP gains, WPs are earned through kills, reviving players(60WP more than a kill) assits, hacking, dropping nanohives for teammates to resupply on, repair armor, and much more. The more WP you earn and the more you get near the top of the leaderboard on your team the more SP you will earn. Currently the SP is capped on a daily limit to 27,200 with another 24,000 given/day passively(it just keeps adding 1SP every 3.6 s)
Which reminds me when you are in merc quarters. Go to character-->skills and look at your SP at the top. If it doesnt rise by one every 3.6s(b/w 3-4s) then you are not gaining passive SP which is a known bug. To fix this create an 2nd character and when you are back at the character selection screen you will see Select, Activate Passive SP, Terminate. Activate passive SP on your 2nd character and then switch it back to your main. I do this everytime i login just to be safe but usually once is enough to fix it UNLESS you buy a passive booster in which case it sometimes bugs it again, hence why i do it everytime i logon.
Hope this helps.
Good luck
Edit- Post further inquiries/questions in the training ground section and also use the search function either for the entire forum or limit your queries in the training ground for more precise results, this beta has been in closed development for over 8 months you are bound to find information you are looking for with a simple search. But the training ground is a stellar and underutilized resource. But it really should be your first stop it helped me in an enormous way. |

Gunner Nightingale wrote:dubbs i think the response he is getting is in correlation to the attitude he projected when writing his post. We as testers want to have GOOD feedback and despite all the trolling we do try to enforce and etiquette with regards to new player posts. I remember before i even started with my character class i came to these forums and looked at what each class is designed to do The website has great starting info with a FAQ section and information on classes, weapons, factions, vehicles etc. After familiarizing myself with that i wrote these posts and looked at these posts https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=20621&find=unreadhttps://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=427335#post427335https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=43208&find=unreadhttps://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=430446#post430446https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=431255#post431255Additionally i spent some time in training ground and read up on stuff. Then i figured out how to activate comms and screen team chat for mics. When i realized most people were staying in squad chat i would move from squad to squad until i found players with comms and talked to them Thanks PHI Thirdcoast you were one of the first players i spoke with in dust, Actually i take it back Dubbs you were the very first. I stumbled and struggled for the first week but i kept telling myself it was the SP gap and i will get there and then the reset came and i got there(still got a ways to go) but always kept improving. Now im not saying i was saint and didnt have my share of antagonistic posts but that was in due to years spent in other game forums where people were too myopic and irrational to do anything else but talk smack and put each other down. But i soon changed because i realized here the players responded to maturity with maturity and flaming with flaming. Perhaps its my OCD but i ALWAYS read the Strat guide/Game manual before i play a game because i want to have a cursory knowledge of the game so i can build upon it with ingame experience and trial/error. Edit-- It already seems like he's changing his tune and getting helpful feedback in response. See it works.
When we up in da Barge, All Eyez on us, all eyez on usGǪGǪ You are now now rockin with I M Perfects and IMPSwarm b itch!!
I'm just aware of and afraid that not all players are like yourself. Many will not continue getting rocked until they've got the hang of it. Especially, when they are successful in other shooters.
I, myself, hated the game at first glance. I've had the beta since feb but didn't become real active until about sept when I decided to give it a real shot. But I hear you though....I haven't read any of his earlier posts to deduce whether or not if he is a jerk. I just read the newbie frustrations. And I didn't want him and others like him to get turned off from the game from initial misconceptions |

Don't use the Nova Knife if you are not A) Fit with a Scan Profile Damper, skilled with the Nova Knife, and Trained in Sensor Dampening and scanning skills. You need to know what is going on around you, and you need for your enemy to not know you are there. B) Able to afford to consistently fit it; there is no unlimited version.
Aside from that, it sounds like you need to change your tactics. Dust is more challenging in some ways than other shooters, and you have to be tactically aware. There is no standard armor and damage for each player of a certain type like other shooters I am aware of. One person may go down fast, while another may take forever to bring down, while more likely doing to you what you intend to do to him.
This has to be a consideration. Always be aware of cover, and try to always be aware of enemy locations. Watch your surroundings and do not rely on your team mates to watch your six. More often than not, they don't. Never bring a knife to a gunfight = old adage. Head on, a Nova Knife has limited range and you will likely die if you attempt to use it.
Nanohives are your friend. Not just because they restock your ammo and grenades, but because they do so for team mates, and they earn you WP when they do.
Keep moving; do not stand still. Snipers are often out there, and even if they aren't, you are much harder to hit when you move, even when your opponent is right in front of you. Watch some streams of other players doing their thing. I did this with Grideris' aka Gridboss' stream and learned a few things myself, despite that he often died horribly.
Don't get me wrong, he did well, he just died a lot. That's Dust. You can't expect to stay alive consistently and do well every match. Some matches will be against players who dominate the field or just flat out own you. And some will be against less experienced players who lack organization.
Stick with the team and fight who they fight or watch their back. This depends on the team obviously; some scatter to the four corners of the map with amazing alacrity. Sometimes this actually works. |

My biggest tip to anyone who doesn't use a shotty is don't be so quick to follow your target around a corner! I have gotten way more kills than I deserve by rounding a corner so my opponent closes the distance for me |
