I'm running a ps3, which contains only dust. It's sitting next to my pc and shares a 27" monitor. How do I tweak more speed out of this? It's an old model if there are any different ps3's. |

You don't. It's a console and is not really customisable. |

You seem to be doing fairly well on that old piece of junk
You could always use gold plated hdmi cables for that extra crispy quality...

Only way to tweak it is to upgrade the HardDisk Drive (HDD).
You can go cheap and get a 7.200 RPM SATA1 drive which will help some.
The next is a hybrid 7.200RPM and SSD disk. These offer nice storage space at a good speed.
Finally, if you want to go all gung-hu, get a dedicated SSD drive.
The things to remember for the PS3: It only supports SATA1 (which, if I am not mistaken, isn't made anymore) so save some cash and get a SATA2 drive instead of a SATA3 drive. Also, for maximum efficiency, try to get an SSD drive with more than 150ms read/write speed.
Good luck, and just look at youtube for tutorials on how to change the HDD in the PS3 yourself. |

The more updates come out, the better DUST gets performance wise. I'd personally wait until it's out of beta to see how well it runs before splashing out on an SSD, unless you've got the spare cash of course |

Directly connect it to the internet source. That should help.
The wireless card in the old ones is pretty bad from even a short distance. |

I haven't looked at PS3 specs, but if it only supports SATA1, an SSD (or even a fast HDD) will most likely not bring any benefit since PS3 can't deliver faster at such high speeds. You will only get benefit from faster seek speeds, not transfer speeds.
And your statement "150ms read/write speed" is non-sensical. 150ms read/write speed of how much data? If you're referring to seek speeds, it's still non-sensical without further info. |

LIES!!!!
YOU ALL LIE!
Ok, if you have an older ps3 say 06-10 you are in luck!
These ps3's back in the day had pre-installed software allowing for duel boot systems. Sony use to allow you to install 'Yellowdog Linux' onto the ps3 or any other OS for that matter. Until of course, some dude pissed them off cracking into the sony partition of the drive etc..etc..etc... uploading all achievements for everyone to download.
Any who..... You need to crack the ps3 (I mentioned them earlier versions of ps3's cause they dont have special hardware policing the ability to do so). Basically, you need homebrewed (custom firmware) the ps3 OS. Think of it as a kernal (for them pc fanatics), or rooting (for the phone fanatics)...etc...
This will give you an ability to overclock the hardware, set certain parameters on prioritizing applications, deleting useless bs like fancy pansy background shizznips and etc...
BEWARE! doing so will brink the ps3 from the psn... [gasp*] OH NO!!!!!!!
BUT! there is a solution...... After 'homebrewing' your ps3 you can install a program onto it (yes it gives you an ability to install software and other stuff that you normally couldn't). It is called 'SEN Enable/Disable'. This program basically mimics an identification code of various ps3 os's and their stocked kernals. Think of it as a glove with someone elses finger prints being used to get through a door and WALA you have psn.
NUTSHELL!!!!!!!!!!
-Download custom fire\mware --Let's you custom hardware and software to speed up ps3 performance ---Install 'SEN Enable/Disable' program for psn access ----ENJOY! |

^ Follow this guy and eventually one day get banned...
or
Get a slim (not a super-slim) because that has all the safety features and is best equipped and try and get a 7,200rpm hard drive/solid state drive. Because of the speed increase from 5,400 (which the PS3 usually uses) make sure it's in a well ventilated space as it will get very hot. This isn't much a problem with the SSD's. |

Technically you don't agree to "replace" the software nor "modifying" the 'hardware'.
You only accept the agreement not to "modify" the 'software'.
So, as long as you aren't abusing their previous software, there is nothing to get banned about. Cause you replaced it with your own, you aren't messing with theirs.Tons of people play on Homebrewed software and haven't been banned. Sony actually encourages it. Due to a particular incident as well as other gaming industrialists putting pressure on sony for their duel booting abilities they simply cut out that ability to make it harder for people to abuse the system and potential law suits.
Let alone, they did give people an option to keep duel booting software on their ps3 but due to certain 'circumstances' wouldn't be able to access the psn. But if people wanted to find a way around it, they could. They don't care.
Just like the NDA agreement here, we dont post private information about the game up, same goes in sony's case, don't crack the trophy system or post saved files online for everyone to use. Don't abuse or modify the video game software.
You should really give sony credit for innovation. They actually prefer these innovative things to happen. They just simply ask in return respect for their hardwork. |
