+1,
I'd rather be able to play a few hours on the weekend with the corp and gain SP the entire time, then have to play every day in order to receive my entire entitlement. |

Great idea for us players. Devils advocate about why they wouldn't use this system. I, as a player, could wait until I've filled the pool. Then, I would buy a 1-day active booster and play 24 hours straight to maximize my gain while minimizing my cost. CCP loses money with this idea for anyone who thinks like that.
Honestly though, I doubt a lot of people would do that =p. |

I really like this idea.
To improve on it, it could use my suggestion for a new SP distribution system which merely learns a players average play time and distributes SP based on that, so you rarely ever hit a hard cap and receive zero or low SP.
Details can be found here but its a length read My SP distribution thread |

I like the regenerating pool idea It should be easy enough to actually implement and it'll still allow you to play mostly in the WE. |

Very good idea. +1 This cap makes me feel like I have to cap out everyday to stay ahead of the curve. There are some days I do have a life. Universal idea that makes sense. I bet the mercs would be a lot happier. |

Jester's idea essentially allows you to push the SP reward pool into deficit, and get 'paid' the SP later on. However with my proposal, this isn't required since the SP pool is already at least one week is size.
Simply earn enough SP from the pool so that you never 'lose' and regenerating SP and if you do ever manage to completely deplete the pool you know you've got a whole week off to socialize or play other games, etc.
A useful addition to my proposal would probably be to also each player to see how full the SP pool is, so they can make better judgements on when to next play. |

What problem does a skill cap address? Apparently it's so the casuals are never too far behind. Yeah I know I don't know any other game that limits people for wanting to play more. Like our game? Want to shoot more people? Spend more AUR? Well here is you reward, you don't level up your char.
folks who play more can't have too many skill points more than folks who play less. But at least you can still gain isk and buy new stuff...
It's like, if your kid wants to play on the swings a little longer, he's restricted from actually swinging because he's not allowed to have more fun than everyone else. He can only sit there. And every few minutes he's gets 10 dollars but the only thing he can buy are hats. Yeah the hats are nice, but what the kid really wants to do is swing. |

Think of it as a method of making sure those of us who love the game but have a bit less time don't just log on to continually have our boxers roxored by someone who has somewhat less skill, but has unlimited time on his hands. Part of the point of DUST is to give players a way to get involved even if they don't have time to engage in the "second job" EVE famously tends to become, so encouraging compulsive play is not going to be part of the recipe.
... Which is all to the good. I don't find compulsive play mixes very well with a career, and yes, I've tried.
I'd like to be playing well into my forties, thank you very much.
(PS: Your reward for shooting more people should be obvious: you get richer, just not necessarily much more skilled, assuming you perform well enough to profit despite your gear.)
Edit: Make that my fifties. Hell, make it my eighties. Give me a way to do it and keep making it worth my while, and I'll keep playing as long as my arthritis-riddled digits can still fumble the sticks into the right position for a killing shot.
... Maybe after that I'll still be able to play by telepathy or biofeedback.
