CCP Frame wrote: Here are the details regarding the skill point reward system change at downtime today. To make comparisons between the old and the new system easier, weGÇÖve included outlines of both below.
Old system: Weekly cycle (reset every Tuesday) Weekly allowance of 190,400 SP per week (7x 27,200 SP, hard-capped) Diminishing returns on warpoints and time spent GÇô the more you play, the less you get (until you hit the cap) No consolation prize GÇô once you hit the cap, you get nothing
New system: Daily cycle (reset at downtime) Daily allowance of 27,200 SP per day (hard-capped) Linear returns to warpoints and time spent GÇô the better you play, the more you earn (until you hit the cap) - Warpoints earned are converted into skillpoints (1 WP = 1 SP) - Time spent in battle grants SP (1 second = 5 SP) - Consolation prize of 50 SP per battle once the daily cap has been hit
So; the SP scoring has been rationalised with a small consolation for when you do cap out.
But unless you can play every day you rely on your passive SP

making passive SP booster very relevant (36,000 SP daily with booster)

You get 1,000 passive SP per hour, 24,000 a day. Confirmed by a dev right as that post was being written. |

I was about to say this XD But even so, that makes 24k/day or 36k with the booster. That means the max sp you can earn per day now is equal to this equation (assuming both boosters are being used):
76,800 + 50b (where b is the number of battles you've played after you've hit the 40,800 cap with booster)
If you earn 1000 wp in a battle, and play the entire battle, that's equal to 8,250 sp. You do this 5 times, and you have already hit the cap for the day. |

Good thing about this is that it's not grind anymore. Aside the fact that one needs to play that everyday if one intends to have max SP possible all the time. |

ok time for a simple break down methinks
- - -
Daily Hard Cap 27200 == 90m40s @ 5SP/s active in battle with zero WP assume active booster raises this by 50% to 40800 == 136m @ 5SP/s active in battle with zero WP
Passive SP 24000 == 1000SP/hr passive booster raise by 50% to 36000
passive only no booster 24000 SP daily == 16800 weekly
passive only with booster 36000 SP daily == 25200 weekly
no boosters passive == 24000 SP + 27200 SP = 51200 SP approx daily == 358400 SP approx weekly
active booster only passive == 24000 SP + 40800 SP = 64800 SP approx daily == 453600 approx weekly
active and passive boosters passive == 36000 SP + 40800 SP = 76800 SP approx daily == 537600 approx weekly |

You left out the most interesting part of the calculation: determining when an active booster is a better investment than a passive booster.
active booster only passive == 24000 SP + 40800 SP = 64800 SP approx daily == 453600 approx weekly
passive booster only passive == 36000 SP + 27200 SP = 63200 SP approx daily == 442400 approx weekly
So the difference between active-only and passive-only is 11200.
Let's say you average 5000 SP per battle without a booster, 7500 with a booster, so each battle you miss you are effectively losing 2500 points on the "active plan" versus the "passive plan." That means if you're going to miss 5 battles in a week, you're getting more SP by employing only a passive booster than you are by employing only an active booster. (Your results will vary based on your average SP earn per battle.) And if you miss even one full day of play, your differential is going to be 13600--already enough to wipe out the benefit of using the active booster instead of the passive booster.
Somebody check my math. Thanks. |

If you're using both boosters (and thus an active booster is in effect) it would have to be +75b I've hit the cap today and I'm getting awards of 75 sp total when including the active booster.

so i have a question. Having that kind of SP limit. Doesn't that make buying an active booster a total waste of money? I hit the daily limit this morning after about 5 or 6 matches and i'm not an amazing player. |

Use of an active booster increases the total cap on active skill gains by 50% so while you may hit the cap in the same time the SP you will have after doing so will be greater. |

If the previous cap was like 500k why are we getting 27k per day for like 190k per week? Am I the only noticing that, or did I miss something? |

Can anybody tell me why a skill point cap is a good idea? I really mean it; make a case to me so I can determine whether i should be throwing a s*** fit or not. |

As you asked (post not to be taken as a statement of advocacy).
The basic idea runs thus, higher player population --> healthier overall game (for various reasons) Lack of SP cap leads to a finite minority becoming overpowered due to constant grinding.
Or put another way, it's there to help the longevity of the game by giving people something to do and keeping the nolifers from winning all the time. |
