So I've started playing Dust 514 a bit and I love it. Clearly, it's not much like popular FPS like Battlefield or Call of Duty which confuses a newbie like me that are used to such simplicity. I've been playing around a bit with classes getting frusterated here and there due to how long it takes to kill an enemy player compared them to me.
-I'm wondering how much investing in skills really affects my gameplay. -Do kills and killstreaks really matter as much in Skirmish? -Class tips? Weapons I should avoid/Weapons I should invest in.
So far, I'm using Artificer (I think that's how you spell it) with the militia SMG with the low stats mostly at Ambush since I'm still getting used to the controls and a few other game mechanics.
-This might be an odd question but do bullets fly straight in this game? I've never thought about it during play and it might account for me not getting hit markers but I'm wondering whether you have actually to compensate for distance, bullet drop, or bullet spread while firing full auto like in Battlefield. |

1. A lot, without your skills you would be stuck with the worst possible gear there is, plus some skills will give you passive boosts that will make your life easier.
2. There are no killstreaks in this game, but kills are still important no matter what game mode you play. You can still lose at skirmish if your clone reserves deplete.
3. Invest in ARs, they are, despite what other people will tell you, the most OP weapon you can find just because of their versatility at everything: damage, range, accuracy, RoF, etc.
There's a lot more to say, but more than I could ever write down. |

Avoid mass driver, sub machine guns and laser rifles I always use assault rifles the Gek 38 is a very nice powerful weapon i love a good scrambler pistol when i run out of ammo it have saved me a ton of times but you need a good aim
Class tips assaults are a good around suit <-----(i use these suits) heavy great armor but quite low shields you can put shield extenders on no room for and medic/support items logi like assault but has no side arm but has extra room for stuff like nanite injectors scout really fast but really weak good for snipers
Depending what skills you get and upgrade depends what you get go through the skills and read the wrighting say +--%vto whatever if i did not specialize in certain skills i would not have good KDR in some matches
Yes kills matter in a skirmish you still have a team clone reserve and if that depletes you lose but what matters more is hacking all the insulation targeting the mccs |

It is all about your skills more then the weapons, skills make the weapons stronger. Weaponry is one the best skills to max out at the start because it gives all hand held weapons bonus damage.
Kills are always important in all modes but skirmish is more about capping and keeping objective. Hacking is a great way to get sp if you have trouble killing.
Weapons and class are up to what your play style is. quick run down...
scout- quick low hp assault- jack of all trades logistics-all about equipment but lacks weapons heavys-tanks high hp big guns but slow
Assualt rifle- very versatile med range sniper rifle-long range shotgun-short range laser rifle-med to long range effective against shield not has much armor mass driver-grenade launcher great aoe weapon forge gun- anti vehicle high damage and charge time low rate of fire
The weapons are pretty balanced depending on who you ask so it really come down to how you like to play
these are the basics I have missed a lot but this should give you a starting point
P.s. read after I posted No there is no bullet drop. |

Pick one type of weapon and focus on it; at skill level 5 you open up a "Proficiency" skill that lets you do more damage. Also, pay attention to classes of weapon. As an example, light weapon reload skill helps both assault and sniper rifles, while the sidearm skill helps with submachineguns and pistols. And sometimes it helps to get only a level or two of suit skills; basic equipment and modules use less CPU and Powergrid than militia equipment and modules. Finally, your circuitry and engineering skills can give you more CPU and Powergrid, while Upgrade skills reduce your weaponry CPU demand. |

Like for asking questions.
Skills affect you almost as much, and in some cases more, than gear.
No killstreaks in this game, but kills matter in skirmish. You will find that you win/lose a noticeable amount of time due to clone depletion. When fighting corp vs corp (where there will be organized teams) depleting the other team's clones is a valid tactic, and should be part of your strategy.
Class tips? Pick your class depending on your playstyle. Don't try and force a class into something it's not. ex. don't use a shotgun with a heavy suit. Scouts are great for capping objectives, laying down uplinks, etc. Logis are great support pieces both offensively for supplying nanohives for ammo, and supporting frontliners with massdrivers and lasers. Heavies are great for defending objectives, but can also be great as an offensive tool, if they have support from other players. (they need support when on the offensive, because of their slow speed... unless you use LAV) Could go on and on... |

1. Investing in skills give you passive boosts, aka a flat stats upgrade, like 3% more damage to all of your weapons, to a maximum of 15% (Since all skills go from 0 [0 means you get no benefit to the skill but you know of it] to 5, which is the maximum potintional for a skill. Upgrading skills also allows access into different skills as well as different weapons, dropsuits, and modules/equipment.
2. Kills can matter in a game, like in the Ambush gametype, which is a Team Deathmatch. Skirmish however is an objective based game, however, you can deplete clone reserves to win the game if your team isn't doing so hot on the objectives teamselves.
3. In Dust 514, their is no particular class or way to play as there are many combonations you can create for different types of suits.
Let me get real with you on the "classes" which are the suits.
Assualt Dropsuits are the jack of all trades and one of the best as frontline combatants. Primarily Shield based on their racial design, Caldari, which use shields as their defensive capabilities.
Scout Dropsuits are fast suits that are weak in both shield and armor, which their speed, small hitbox, and stamina make up for. They are primarily used as snipers or great for close quarters combat (CQC) for their low signature radius, which makes them harder to be detected on your minimap/radar.
Logistic Dropsuits are one of the lifebloods in Dust 514. They are your combat medics. Slower than an Assault Dropsuit, they sacrifice a Small Weapon/Sidearm in place of having the most equipment slots, which allow them to use more equipment such as revive tools, armor repairs, nanohives/ammo depots, and other equipment up to a maximum of 4 at the highest tier of suit.
Heavy Dropsuits are the meat grinders of Dust 514, able to carry the largest of equipment such as the Heavy Machine Gun, and the Forge Gun, a charge up anti-vehicle weapon. Heavy Dropsuit have alot of health, but as a penalty, they suffer from slow speed and low turn rate to compensate for their destructive capabilities. As a result to carry such heavy weapons, they sacrifice all equipment slots, as well as having the largest hitbox of all of the current infantry suits.
Heck, you could never use a finger on a gun and be able to pilot different vehicles such as tanks, or even the dropship which is a VTOL aircraft.
In terms of guns, all guns are a viable option, but their purposes are different. I suggest creating an alternate character to pick different flavors. Some guns have weaknesses and strengths in other areas. The basic of all guns is the Assault Rifle, which is great at alot of things and is the most common of weapons.
I could go on awhile for the different kinds of guns available, but I'll leave one more tip.
You could be in a Heavy suit with an Assault Rifle for example, or a Scout with a Laser Rifle. A Scout suit that is fitted only for hacking and being sneaky. Some people are crazy enough to go with only the Nova Knives, a melee range only weapon and are doing quite well, though are very rare.
tl:dr: Read it anyways.
Edit: By the way, your starting class only affects your starting skills. Everything else is up to you. |

Might also help not firing full auto. Laying on the trigger in Dust is about as useful as laying on the trigger in real life. It's a waste of ammo and chances of actually really hitting the target with any degree of proficiency is out the window. You are better off using bursts rather then going full auto. When you get your skills up it's a bit easier to go with longer bursts. |

no bullet drop for any weapons but there is bullet spread on the automatic weapons like assault rifle. so you want to use short bursts to lessen bullet spread. Dev's have considered adding bullet drop to sniper rifles(dont have the thread handy they talked about it) but its not yet implemented in game for any weapon as of now. |

My advice.
1) Don't go straitght to any red point that you see in the map.
2) Don't go for proto things. Right now, there are not an important diference with advance things but the ISK difference is too much.
3) If you're not a great killer, play cover, good distance and use nanoninjector. It gives you nice points (But first secure the place)
4) AV or Flux granades to support your team.
5) Go for Assault Rifle (at first). It's the most "versatile" weapon. |

HMG definetly dont hit instantly. I have numerous times seen HMG rounds fly towards and past me, hitting my suroundings and quite a few also hitting me.

But they do fly straight path. So no ballistics here. |
